While out in town today I had a brief sit down along with various other shoppers of all ages and races. An elderly man dropped a coin under the bench and a young African man leapt into action, ,crawling under the seat to retrieve it for him, then smiled broadly at us all and wished everyone a happy day before heading off. It really lifted my spirits.

On hearing that Lidl have their corporate eyes on a plot on the edge of our small town, at last, and the delirious notion that Aldi, with FOMO, will follow suit and open up on the other side of this town, starved of choice that we are.
Then, rummaging in the freezer for chicken, found a box of 3 almond Magnum, had one immediately, I had forgotten how good they are

Yesterday I met up with one of my oldest friends . We walked our dogs through a glorious bluebell wood and the dogs had a wonderful time in the river . They are all labs and labs love water .

DGS made an unexpected visit this afternoon. He gave the dog an extra run across the fields. Then when we asked if he’d like to stay for dinner he offered to make it for us.
I feel relaxed.

Spending the day with my husband(79). So many people I know no longer have their husbands so every day is a bonus.

My lovely hairdresser told me today she is pregnant. I have been going to her for years and it made me so happy to see her delight and to hear her relay the delight of her family.

Going to the gym this afternoon and being able to do my stretches and weights. I love that I still feel fit and strong at 69. My dad still danced at 89 and I hope to match him!

My step grandchildren calling me Grandma and wanting to spend time
with me. I love it when it’s my biological grandchildren, but somehow with my SGC it makes me feel so blessed that they have chosen to do that 🥰

Grammaretto,

I took two Samsonite suitcases to the British Heart Foundation and two teenage girls told us they didn’t accept suitcases or indeed any of the quality clothing inside. We were so disappointed.

A walk to a pretty viewpoint which I first visited 35 years ago and a picnic in the sun, then delicious ice-cream on the way home. Mowed the front lawn (very badly) but I did it without strangling myself with the cable.
Today the back lawn.

How lovely, LadyGaga.

I've just received a PM accusing me of being a nasty racist for describing the kind young man in my OP as African. If he'd been Japanese or American I would have said so to paint the picture. I feel so hurt and upset and it certainly hasn't improved what is one of my ill days. Why are some people so unkind, spoiling all those lovely responses, so many happy moments?

Allira Fri 02-May-25 10:33:51

chicken how unpleasant, and cowardly of them too. If they wanted to say something, they could have said it on the thread.

African can describe someone or something from the Continent of Africa, just as European can for someone or something from Europe, Asia, etc. covering a wide range of peoples, countries, culture etc.

Perhaps you should have asked him exactly where he was from!

Jaxjacky Fri 02-May-25 11:13:39

That’s dreadful chicken I would take a screen shot and report it, as Allira says very cowardly.
Unfortunately there are some nasty people about.

Eldest son, daughter-in-law and children are off for a long weekend break.
I am 'babysitting' their gorgeous Sprocker Spaniel, she is so at home here and I am always very happy to have her to stay!

My ceanothus in full perfect bloom, a vision in blue.

Kate1949 Fri 02-May-25 12:31:20

chicken. Have people really got nothing better to do? How sad their lives must be. This is a lovely, uplifting thread.

Parsley3 Fri 02-May-25 12:49:22

That's dreadful, chicken. Was it an anonymous PM? So uncalled for.
My small pleasure today was a video call from a long lost cousin. It was so good to speak to her.

Crossstitchfan Fri 02-May-25 12:51:42

It was actually yesterday, but never mind!
It was the birthday of one of my adult grandsons and we were all invited round to his house for dinner and cake with him and his partner. As many of us work shifts, and one lives abroad, it’s hard to get us all together so it was great that 9 out of the 12 of us made it.
The icing on the cake was that my granddaughter and her partner brought their 8-day old son to his first party! It made it extra special. It was wasted on him though, he slept through it all except for a brief feed! It was lovely for us all to see him though. All in all, it was a great day. Birthday boy was thrilled with his presents, so all was good.

Crossstitchfan Fri 02-May-25 12:55:21

Come on, mabon1. If you are going to come out with such comments, you might at least have the decency to respond when someone asks you to elaborate. Or one of the people on here who lights the touchpaper and then stands clear?

Crossstitchfan Fri 02-May-25 12:57:12

Or are you one of the people on here…

Ziggy62 Fri 02-May-25 13:20:53

Oh i do hope it's my post on celebrating Beltane that mabon1 finds "snobbish" lol

My neighbours accused me of being a witch ( shock/horror) because I celebrate Beltane, Samhain etc. Im happy to be a snob with my delicious home made lemonade (popped a wee gin in later in the evening 😋), the flowers look beautiful and the bbq was delicious
