Welcome! Please make yourselves comfortable. I thank you all for your patience and support throughout the times that we've shared. flowers

Grandmabatty Tue 17-Jun-25 17:06:01

Good evening Kitcheners. Jaxjacky I saw on another thread that you have covid. My commiserations. I hope it disappears quickly.
Another day of doing little. I had a shower and washed my hair. Washed dishes and dried them. And cleaned the little glass panels in the front door. I put the rubbish in the bins too. There's no stopping me!
I have read a lot , sorted out my travel insurance for the family holiday and researched what I'm going to do in the house. I'm needing new blinds, so have decided to get a new suite and rug for the living room and get a couple of rooms painted too as well as the blinds.
Curry for dinner - the last of the ready meals. Strawberries and ice cream for after. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

Jaxjacky Tue 17-Jun-25 17:23:31

Thank you Grandmabatty yes, explains why I felt a bit yuk yesterday, coughing and sneezing now
So I’ve done little today as I didn’t sleep well, nearly bought things online I really don’t need and gave MrJ a list for the village shop.
Apologies Yia I missed your post yesterday, I too would have panicked as I always do with medical things, I hope it’s totally inconsequential.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 17-Jun-25 17:34:34

Jaxjacky I hope you only have a mild case of Covid, rest and let your body heal itself 🌸

brook2704 Tue 17-Jun-25 18:05:51

Oh sorry to hear about the Covid Jax I hope you’re much better soon
I’ve had a really good day here, nothing exciting but I’ve enjoyed a couple of classes at the gym, a walk by the river, a coffee with pals and a little bit of gardening in the warm weather - I’m content with days just like today
You’ve been busy grandmabatty sounds like you’ve lots of new things to buy. You’re probably much better than me at making your mind up on what you want, I seem to dither for ages these days before making a decision. Also, I’ve still not got round to doing much housework, the day to day jobs are ok but I really need to do some proper cleaning - I just seem to get sidetracked with other things 😕
Hoping everyone in the quiet corner is doing ok, take care all 💐

cornergran Tue 17-Jun-25 18:11:36

Oh heck jax. It’s not the time of year to feel unwell. Hope wretched covid disappears quickly.

Good to know you’re behaving grandmab. Love the sound of your planning. It’s the sort of thing I do when I’m not sleeping, come the morning Mr C (who can sleep for the world) wakes to hear me say ‘I’ve been thinking’. There’s always a groan, can’t think why 😂

Things are a bit quiet in cornerland. We should be away at the moment but had to leave the next morning as there was an unpleasant problem in our room. I hardly dare say it. Bed bugs. It’s not as simple as being offered a replacement room as of course the problem can move with the guests. A full refund hasn’t made up for the disappointment and worry it’s caused.

We’d checked the mattress as usual and found it spotless and almost new. The room looked immaculate. Bathroom gleaming. Unpacked and relaxed. Very early the next morning I saw one of the little blighters strolling across the bed cover. Captured it with a tissue before sealing it in a plastic bag to show management who couldn’t have been more apologetic. It’s a very reputable hotel group.

We’re exhausted after two long drives and have been spending many hours washing, steaming and freezing unworn clothes. Hopefully no hitchhikers home but better safe than sorry. No bites I’m pleased to report. Shoes are sprayed. Cases are treated with the powder beginning with D that I can never spell and sealed in bags in the shed. I may just ‘think’ one night and replace them with hard sided cases which are apparently more bug proof than our ancient soft sided cases.

It’s our first encounter with the speedy little creatures. Mr C is trying to convince me we’ve been lucky not to have met one before as we do have a few days away regularly. Give me a month and I might believe him!!

A quiet week ahead here with me attached to the steamer I fear. I also fear there could be retail therapy involved. Two roses came home with us from the garden centre providing lunch today. We’ve decided on lunch out each day we should be away - wonder where tomorrow might take us. I may need to think! We’re both pretty down about it all but will cheer up soon I’m sure.

Look after yourselves everyone. I know there are others managing more difficult issues, just needed to offload a bit.

kittylester Tue 17-Jun-25 19:09:27

Ooh, jax, join the club. DH and I have had covid since we came home from our dreadful holiday. Tin hat and all that.

We were very sneezy and ill for 2/3 days and then just washed out for about a week. It does keep coming back though.

soop, I am sorry to hear your woes but really pleased to see you are embracing the measures that can help you. Some people are too stubborn to accept the help they need.

YiaYia that must have been really scary for you, i know i would have been petrified.

Batty glad you are behaving! grin

GrannyGravy13 Tue 17-Jun-25 19:45:53

The Imp has finally been allowed to have his swimming lessons without armbands. He has been able to swim without them with family on holiday for 10 months, unfortunately due to the fact his strokes/style were not BSA recognised, he had to wear bands until today, when hey ho he finally got ^proper strokes.

DD, The Imp and 10yr old came back here for a BBQ and swim/splash in our spa pool.

I am pooped, all holiday ironing is completed, big food shop this morning. How I long to be back on a sun lounger…

Jaxjacky Tue 17-Jun-25 20:16:08

Thank you all, it’s the drippy nose that’s driving me nuts.
Oh my goodness corner we’re away soon, I’ll be extra vigilant, what a shame, that totally spoilt your break.
Well done Imp!

brook2704 Tue 17-Jun-25 20:35:54

Oh my goodness that’s awful corner and such a disappointment for your holiday to be cut short. I’m so squeamish about things like that. I didn’t realise you had to take all those precautions to make sure you didn’t transport any of them home but better safe than sorry. I hope you’re enjoy the next few days at home and the warm weather
Hope you’re feeling better soon Kitty
Well done to The Imp GG they’ll be no stopping him now! 🏊 Sun lounger in the garden maybe?

Redcar Tue 17-Jun-25 20:50:52

What a nuisance and a disappointment corner, enjoy your lunches out every day!
grandmabatty well done for taking it easy at the moment. Like you, I do a fair bit of forward planning in the middle of the night, my late DH used to groan when I said I’d been thinking, it always meant more work for him! Now I have to do it myself or find someone to do it for me.
jax I hope you soon recover from your bout of Covid. A nuisance that it’s still about.
Well done Imp, no stopping you now!
I hope that soop has her new bed now and that it’s making life more comfortable for her. Also that the GP has managed to prescribe some medication that will cure the nausea.
Have a peaceful evening and sleep well everyone.

Grandmabatty Tue 17-Jun-25 21:26:00

Corner how horrible for you. I don't know if I would know bed bugs. Fingers crossed that you have made sure you haven't brought any home. Redcar I have to find some way to pass the time! Grannygravy well done to The Imp! Dgs1 can swim without armbands and has moved up a class.
My son is visiting me tomorrow morning and bringing cake. He knows me well. It'll be lovely to see him.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 17-Jun-25 21:36:28

corner wow, I am ok with mice, spiders, rats, snakes and most animals, I have a real phobia of bedbugs and cockroaches.

I would be not only drinking alcohol but bathing in it…

brook2704 Tue 17-Jun-25 22:17:23

That’s lovely grandmabatty enjoy tomorrow morning with your son - and the cake too!

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 17-Jun-25 22:32:25

Hello kitchen people,

I popped into the picture framer and arranged frames for two recent purchases - a small oil painting and a print. I heard from the Royal Academy today that they have informed the artist that I have bought a print from then.

I saw friends this afternoon while OH drew off lots of honey from his bees.

We had our third of four pottery lessons tonight. Great fun. I managed to throw a small pot in about five minutes without any wonkiness or collapse!

I am lying in bed and someone’s car alarm keeps going off.

Sleep 💤 tight.

cornergran Tue 17-Jun-25 23:10:09

I got more than a bit paranoid about them last year grandmab when there was a lot of publicity. Google showed me images and what to do if subjected to any. It looked familiar enough for me to catch it, not just chuck it on the floor as I would with a spider. Hotel management confirmed. . I’ve probably (definitely!) been more than a little OTT with the washing/steaming/freezing, just can’t bear the thought of bringing hitchhikers home.

Oh well. All this activity has made me tired so best get to sleep. Night, night everyone.

Nannytopsy Wed 18-Jun-25 13:28:57

Oh yuk Corner - I think that’s most people’s worst nightmare.
One of our elderly village friends had her dog stolen yesterday. The lady concerned is besotted with the dog, so is distraught. What horrible people live in this world.

Blossoming Wed 18-Jun-25 16:36:00

Good afternoon all, so sorry to read of so many poorly Kitcheners. Hope you are all soon on the mend ♥️

Redcar Wed 18-Jun-25 17:15:30

I hope your neighbour’s dog is found soon nannytopsy there are some nasty people about.
llfl your pottery class sounds fun, I’ve always fancied going to a class but doubt that my wrists and hands are strong enough to throw a pot!

Grandmabatty Wed 18-Jun-25 17:50:38

That's really sad about the dog Nannytopsy. I hope it is found soon.
I've had a lovely afternoon with my ds. Lots of chat. He's not long away and I have prepared a salad for dinner. A baked potato is currently in the oven to go with it. Ds brought a selection of cakes and I've picked one. The rest are for DD, Dsil and the boys.
It's been a good day.

Jaxjacky Wed 18-Jun-25 18:12:28

Delightful Grandmabatty a good catch up, enjoy your dinner.
I hope you’re now Covid free kitty another day of sneezing, runny nose and coughing here, not done much, washed floors downstairs.
MrJ asked me why I was (illogically) checking our bed last night corner 🙄 I blamed you.
BBQ for two here in a while.

Grannmarie Wed 18-Jun-25 18:21:38

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people! I've just been catching up with your news, lots going on since I last popped in.

Dear Soop, I hope your new bed provides a good night's sleep, so that you can wake refreshed and ready to face a new day (and all its challenges). Well done, Mr Soop/ Carter, carer extraordinaire! Thinking of you both.

Kind thoughts to Blossoming and her caring MrB.

Hoping and praying that all goes well for the FGTs tomorrow. 🕯🙏🕯
Grannygravy, will you please pass on my best wishes? Well done to the Imp, no stopping him now!

You're doing really well, Grandmabatty, enjoy your reading, that's one of my favourite ways to relax. Have a great catch up with your son, and your cake!

Aww, Jaxjacky, so sorry to hear that you have Covid. I recommend lots of fluids, lots of rest, and a good medicinal toddy every night! 🥃 🍋 🍯
Kitty, hope you and your DH are recovering well now.

Hello 👋 brook, I like the sound of your day, especially your walk along the river. Many years ago we stayed in a nice hotel on the River Ness, beautiful setting.

Oh, Cornergran, what a shame, and what a worry for you both. I feel your fear, like GG13 I'm OK with larger creatures but wee beasties terrify me... You've been very diligent with all your precautions, I'm sure your safe home without any "passengers". Try to relax now and enjoy your lunch outings.

YiaYia, hope you're feeling a bit less worried now.

Redcar, my DH was like yours! Whenever I said I'd been thinking, he would groan, "Oh, no, what now?" Mind you, he just got on with whatever I had in mind until fairly recently. Last year was the first time we had to employ a decorator, DH did all the decorating and DIY for ourselves, family and friends.

Ladyleftfieldlover, sounds like you're getting the hang of your pottery lessons, how creative! My creativity these days centres on making soup.

Oh, Nannytopsy, what a dreadful thing to happen. I hope your friend is soon reunited with her wee dog.

I hope everything is going according to plan for Neine's Nuptials, not long now!

My sister and I had a great night out in Glasgow last night at Sounds of the Sixties with Tony Blackburn. Wonderful entertainment, great band and singers, super selection of 60s hits plus the king of the corny joke himself! TB is amazing for his age, told interesting anecdotes about the stars of the time. My favourite era of popular music. We knew all the songs!

Wishing everyone a peaceful Monday evening and a good night's sleep. I'm missing the Monday evening 📺 quizzes, and I've finished watching 1883, which I enjoyed, so I'll need to find something else to distract myself!

Thinking of all in the quiet corner and those with illness, worries or sorrow. 🕯🙏🕯

TOYA.

I am shattered, The Imp’s sports day this morning, his first one in reception. He was doing really well until he realised we were photographing him, and every time he saw us with a camera he stopped smiled and posed. 😹

I then went to the gym and back in time for his brother’s sports day in the afternoon, he performed really well, won the javelin and his running race and was 2nd or 3rd in every other event. He is rather competitive…

I have had too much sun, consequently I have drank a couple of pints of water and now on the sofa with a chilled white wine, veggies all prepared DH is doing something creative with some pork steaks.

NannyTopsy how horrible, you are right there are some nasty people around.

Signing off 🙋‍♀️

Grandmabatty Wed 18-Jun-25 18:56:01

Good to hear from you Grannmarie. Grannygravy your description of The Imp posing made me laugh. Dgs2 won a medal at his nursery sports day, although I suspect they all got one!

I missed his nursery sports day last year, DD, DH went and his other Grandparents.

I think you are correct as all of the children won a medal for something.

kittylester Wed 18-Jun-25 19:06:04

Sorry to disappoint Jaxjacky, but still feel awful. Anything at all absolutely exhausts me. I think I am now day 8. DH is probably day 12 and loads better. Fed up now!!

I'm sorry to hear about the creepy crawlies, corner, a visitor to DD2 brought some to her house - what a palaver she had to get rid of them.

I don't hope the dog is found soon, Topsy, that's so distressing.

GG, I am not fit to cook tonight but I can manage a chilled rosé.

Sending love to all the other kitchener.
