Welcome! Please make yourselves comfortable. I thank you all for your patience and support throughout the times that we've shared. flowers

Nannytopsy Thu 26-Jun-25 15:50:25

I thought the plants were eryngiums - sea Holly. I have one in the garden. There are also shorter ones, which are ground cover.
Hope the FGTs & soops are doing well.
We have dead headed and cut the grass today. The garden bin is pretty full now. Next job is repotting the houseplants before I move on to weeding. Maybe tomorrow.
We have had a very few spots of rain and our corner of Suffolk is very windy today, which dries things out even more.
Enjoy your afternoon everyone

Yiayia4 Thu 26-Jun-25 16:01:17

That’s great news Thorntrees and Cornergran.

It’s windy but mild here in Surrey. We have started to have a walk every day and today we went to Bushy Park.So many young deer at this time of year so lovely to see.

Love and prayers to FGTs hope all goes well tomorrow.

Jaxjacky Thu 26-Jun-25 16:58:31

Hi all from a very windy WestonSM, I have sand everywhere included my very ‘tousled’ hair, sun and cloud, with the wind chill about 14.
We went inland to Cheddar for a wander, then found a farm shop for ice cream, now a drink before an early dinner.
Enjoy your evening all

hulahoop Thu 26-Jun-25 19:27:45

Hope all going well for Fgt ,s. Wish she would be allowed back. I haven't posted for a while various reasons .We have just had a lovely break in Northumberland a friendly b&b . Lovely weather and pleasant walks .best wishes to all.

Jaxjacky Thu 26-Jun-25 20:22:36

You may have seen on the news a bus crash in Hampshire, Imogen’s college, she’d gone in earlier - phew, a friends daughter was on board, a couple of bumps and a smashed mobile.

Redcar Thu 26-Jun-25 20:26:27

A very windy day here too nannytopsy with a few spots of rain this afternoon-and I mean a few! Showers are forecast for tonight but may miss us again,
I went for my usual walk this morning, but no dog walkers about! I did quite a lot of housework this morning, dusting, vacuuming etc. I felt quite pleased with myself. Spent this afternoon putting away food from a delivery, then reading.
Have a pleasant evening everyone and sleep well (if it’s not too hot for you). My house is a warm 26 degrees at the moment, but I can sleep in that!

Redcar Thu 26-Jun-25 20:27:43

jaxjacky a lucky escape for Imogen. I hope your friend’s daughter is ok.

Nannytopsy Thu 26-Jun-25 20:50:10

Coo Jax, that’s lucky. A new phone then!
Some weeding done and the house plants have been repotted. The north facing dining room is the plant infirmary - there are quite a few in there! I am awaiting a delivery from a big blue and yellow warehouse including some pot covers.
Sleep tight everyone - hope it’s not too warm

GrannyGravy13 Thu 26-Jun-25 20:51:49

The 10 yr old asked to go to bed at 8.30pm, very unusual, he has had three chapters of his book, and is nearly asleep.

I am struggling to sleep since returning from holiday, nothing to do with the heat, my mind is working 24/7. Too much going on with AC & GC, if only we could have a switch to turn off our worry gene.

Lucky Imogen, I hope her friend is ok Jaxjacky

Signing off 🙋‍♀️

brook2704 Thu 26-Jun-25 20:52:58

Thank goodness Imogen is fine Jax I really hope the other students on the bus are ok. Hope you’ve recovered from being blown about and enjoying your dinner
I’m just home from the FitSteps dance class this evening, it was hard work but enjoyable, I think I’ll sleep well tonight. We ate early before I went out, so at the moment I’ve collapsed on the sofa and DH is tidying up the kitchen 👍
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

brook2704 Thu 26-Jun-25 20:56:33

I second that GG and know exactly what you mean, I’m such a worrier too. I hope you can put things to the back of your mind and sleep a bit better tonight

cornergran Thu 26-Jun-25 21:30:35

What a fortunate escape for Imogen jax. I’ve not seen the news, hope the passengers aren’t too badly hurt. If you want to try fish and chips again we had an excellent if we thought pricey example at Pappas. Just off the sea front. Sorry I’m hopeless with road names, think there was a web site though.

Prom preparations went without a hitch, the hair just as she wanted. It was very special to be able to see her dressed and wave her off. A very elegant and beautiful 16 year old. I also love seeing how her divorced parents come together for these things. So much better all round than the initial tension and pain.

Volunteering tomorrow. Saturday I plan a lie in. It’s been a bit of a week.

Sleep well everyone.

kittylester Thu 26-Jun-25 21:46:47

That was a lucky escape Jax. I hope everyone is ok.

DGD1 has her prom tonight. She looked gorgeous (and that is from someone totally non biased!) She used her great grandmother's evening clutch bag and wondered how she fitted her phone in it.

I helped facilitate an online Carer Learning session today - i do find them tiring.

Sending love to everyone I Soop's caring kitchen

brook2704 Thu 26-Jun-25 22:06:18

Hoping both the gorgeous Prom girls have had a lovely evening Corner and Kitty - what a very special time for them both

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 26-Jun-25 22:22:05

Hello kitchen people.

It was our Book group today. Just six of us as the other six were either on holiday or doing something else. We talked about poetry. I mention To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvel; a poem about loss by Edna St Vincent Millay, and one of Carol Ann Duffy’s poems - Mrs Icarus.

Sleep 💤 tight.

mamaa Fri 27-Jun-25 00:14:55

Well I just popped in and didn’t realise how late it was- it seemed to stay so light outside for so long tonight that 10 pm arrived and took me by surprise.
Wishing you all a ‘Goodnight and ‘Godbless’ as my Mum use to say to me and my brother at bedtime whilst ‘tucking us in’. x

Grandmabatty Fri 27-Jun-25 07:42:55

Ladyleftfieldlover Carol Ann Duffy is on the Scottish Higher English and Advanced Higher English syllabus. I thoroughly enjoy her poetry. We taught Mrs Midas but not Mrs Icarus. I also love Andrew Marvell.
Prom season is a chance for all those lovely girls and boys to shine.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 27-Jun-25 08:14:08

Jaxjacky I have just seem an item on the news about the crash, how terrifying for those young people.

I hope the injured have a swift recovery.

Grandmabatty Fri 27-Jun-25 16:51:44

Good afternoon Kitcheners. It has rained here most of the day, off and on. A perfect start to the school holidays! I was up early this morning because I couldn't sleep so got two washes done, dishes done, the dishwasher cleaned and the house hoovered. Dd picked me up and we went to the garden centre which has a fabulous Paver shoe shop. She was my personal shopper and I'm the proud owner of two lovely pairs of sandals and an eye wateringly expensive pair of trainers. Dd claims the are £30 cheaper than on the website so she's saved me money 🤔
This afternoon I have rested as I didn't sleep well last night. The tumble dryer is on as is the heating. It's ridiculous I know, but I felt a bit chilled. I've done a little more cross stitch and watched tv. I've also completed my Tesco shopping list for my return from holiday in july. Tonight I'll try to go to bed early. Dinner will be prosaic -pie and beans again. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners

Grandmabatty Fri 27-Jun-25 16:52:19

Jaxjacky in so glad that Imogen wasn't hurt.

brook2704 Fri 27-Jun-25 18:25:53

Hi kitchen pals, it was dry and sunny this morning but grey and wet this afternoon. A bit chilly here too gbatty but I’ve got a soft throw on the sofa to snuggle into
This afternoon I’ve enjoyed a good catch up with my pal, we sat and chatted for ages over coffee. Nothing else planned now for the rest of the evening. As it’s Friday we’ve just opened a bottle of wine 🥂
Well done with the shopping grandmabatty - good to get a bargain 👍

Nannytopsy Fri 27-Jun-25 18:51:57

There is a house about 100yds from us called Windy Hall. I can promise that it’s accurate! I find windy weather so annoying but at least it keeps the heat down.

Jaxjacky Fri 27-Jun-25 18:54:56

Hi all, my Mum and Dad used to say that too mamaa memories.
We got home about 11:30 (next time corner thanks), not much washing, done and dried, it’s windy here too - must have followed us!
Successful shopping Grandmabatty, all kitted out.
Easy quiche (Tesco delivered) for dinner, nearly the last garden potatoes and some veg, a lazy holiday end.
It was Imogen’s prom last year, I hope your girls had/have a wonderful time kitty and corner.
Thoughts with those absent and our soop

Grannmarie Fri 27-Jun-25 21:05:51

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people. 🥰

Jaxjacky, I'm so sorry to hear about the bus accident, thank goodness Imogen was not involved. Hoping and praying that those who were make speedy recoveries.

Hello 👋 Hulahoop, good to see you, hope you're doing OK.

YiaYia, that sounds like a lovely walk, it will lift your spirits. Yesterday, I enjoyed my first Aquafit class in over a year, good for the mood although I can't manage the jumps and kicks!

Redcar, you've been very busy, good for you! Did you sleep OK last night? 26 degrees would be much too warm for me, I like a cool bedroom!

Nannytopsy, I laughed at your ' plant infirmary '! I think my kitchen window ledge is Emergency ward 10, some critical specimens there! 🤣

Grannygravy, I sympathise, I've spent many early mornings tossing and turning over family worries, an 'off' switch would indeed be wonderful. Hope things settle down for you soon.

Your book group discussion sounds really interesting, Ladyleftfieldlover. Ours has never discussed poetry, might be worth a thought now?

Mamaa, I'm loving the light nights too. But I need my blackout blinds to sleep, or I'd be awake at 4. There's only a few hours of darkness here ( west of Scotland) just now.
Our dear Mum and Dad always said,
" Night, night, God bless," last thing after tucking us in, I say it to my children and grandchildren, my siblings and I still say it to each other, even over the phone or signing off on texts. Comforting.

Cornergran and Kitty, I hope the prom girls had a wonderful evening. DGS1 wore the kilt to his prom last year, he carries it well, being over 6ft.

Grandmabatty, great shopping trip, wonderful to have your 'personal shopper' too! Snap, I had pie ( air frier) and beans last night, food of the gods.🤣

brook, I have just joined you in a wee glass of PG 🍸, not long home. Sixties music on in the background. 🎶

The Wee Boy had his last day in P.1 today, so I drove through to collect him at lunchtime, early finish. He's had a great year, loves school and his teacher and has made lots of new friends.
Miss P. sent the parents a super First Day/ Last Day photo of every child, very thoughtful. It was amazing to see the difference since last August, he's completely lost the ' baby' look, and stretched a few inches!
So DDIL2 has booked me in for a few childcare days during the holidays. Hope we get some good weather, cos today was wet and windy!

Sorry for rambling on...wishing everyone the best weekend possible.
TOYA, especially our Soops, Fgts, and all with illness, worries or sorrow. NNGB

Grandmabatty would love to know which garden Centre sells Sketchers. Can you give me a clue? I am sitting here with a sore mouth. Had the remains of a tooth removed today after a crown reached the end of its life. An immediate replacement plate was put in but because of my awful bite I don’t think I will tolerate it. Finding it difficult to eat but will persevere a bit longer. Was feeling quite emotional when younger granddaughter went home after last after school care with us. When DS picked her up she just said “Bye see you sometime! After 11years of childcare honestly kids what are they like!! Of course we will still see her but probably not so regularly. I may having difficulty now knowing what day of the week it is 😂.
Elder granddaughter is 16yrs on Monday where does the time go? Glad Imogen wasn’t involved in the accident Jaxjacky hope her friend is okay.
