Good Morning Friday 11th July 2025

Good morning from Cornwall where a hot day is forecast, of course. I'm off to dismantle Lego at a mid-county library this morning, then back to my son's nice cold house before meeting my youngest grandchildren's at their school's summer fair. Hopefully my son will take over childcare at 4.30 so that I can jump on a bus home and get away from the heat!

The pic is last week's creations. Seems a shame to dismantle them but there isn't an endless supply of Lego.

Good morning Mick and followers, another bright start here in south Glos and a very hot day is forecast.
I am about to take the dogs out then get the housework done before it gets too warm.

I eventually saw a doctor yesterday about my horrible rash. He thinks is photosensitivity to the sun, triggered by a plant or something I have touched, and cheerfully told me it’s the worst he’s ever seen and very likely to reoccur.

So I have strong antihistamines, steroid cream and, because it looks like it’s causing cellulitis (my lower legs and forearms are swollen) also double antibiotics.
It’s very uncomfortable and I’m being a right misery 🙄😵‍💫
I honestly have no idea what’s triggered it, I haven’t bought any new plants or picked anything when dog walking.
I’m hoping it clears quickly but I have to avoid the sun completely or cover up from head to toe.

I will do some painting today, my craft room is cool in the mornings, and enjoy listening to an audiobook.

That must be a relaxing occupation, Mizuna!

After reaching DH's home yesterday morning, we spent the rest of the day unpacking, easily finding places for the various food items we had brought over but less successfully with the numerous locomotives and other model railway kits which now adorn the dining room table.,,,,,!

Before lunch, I caught up on sleep for an hour and we've managed to sleep for eight hours overnight which is rare. No doubt food shopping will feature today then DH will be back on his lawn tractor to finish mowing the weeds which inevitably survive drought when grass doesn’t.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from an already very warm South Yorkshire. I had excruciating cramp in my legs last night and it took ages to get rid of it. I am off to the Antrim coast for a week with DD and the menfolk today. I’m not looking forward to the journey but it will be lovely to spend time with them. I gave the garden a good soaking last night and will do so again this morning before it gets too hot. Goodness knows what it will look like when I get back, as rain seems unlikely☹️.

Good morning from a bright, warm Bristol. My technique of cooling the bed with a frozen hot water bottle seems to work.
I have only just woken up, which is extraordinary having slept some 8 hours. My normal (and hated) sleep ration is about 5 hours, with a nap in the afternoon if I can.
My poor Roses, how awful for you, but at least you should ge5 some relief with all those medications.
I waited all morning, from 8-12, for Openreacg to come and set up my new Wi-Fi. The (very nice) young man called me at about 1145 to apologise that he was running late , coming around 1 pm!
He was very apologetic, very sweet. I saw his drill and cheekily asked if he could make a few holes in a pot for my friend. Hr agreed immediately and duly did it, bless him.
I also spent the morning making blueberry jam. They were very cheap at the greengrocer. I’m getting more this morning as they didn’t make that many jars.
I’m helping with the meal after a funeral this lunchtime, then quietly melting in my relatively cool flat.

Good morning from an already hot and sunny Essex coast.
A disturbed night, probably due to us going out for an impromptu drink with friends, and maybe having one glass of Prosecco too much 😅.
Today we are taking the last lot of DH'S clothes to the boat ready for his adventure taking it to Holland.
He, and a friend, are leaving at lunchtime tomorrow. They will either go straight there, a very long journey or break the trip in Ramsgate for the night.
I won't see him for the next month until I fly out to Amsterdam in August.
I shall worry until I know they have safely arrived.
I'm sorry I missed congratulating you yesterday Gingster on your wedding anniversary. I hope you had a lovely day.

Roses how awful for you.I hope the medication works quickly.

I decided to put off starting my new medication until tomorrow as I have a dental appointment today to remove the last bit of my broken tooth.As I will be having local anaesthetic I thought throwing another medication in as well would be a bit much.

Like Roses I will get the housework done early and then spend the rest of the day reading and trying to keep cool.

Good morning from blazing hot s somerset, even hotter today, no respite

Early afternoon yesterday, 31 degrees and my big squashes at chest height on a veg trug, were flopped. I spent an hour in that hot sun erecting a shade which had to be secure because of the wind. Dangerous time of day and I had a couple of unusual short dizzy spells, luckily just before the end of that project. Went inside, had water and a pinch of salt and was ok. Shows how quickly the heat can affect us oldies. The shade worked and soon the squash leaves re-gained their composure. They get blazing sun from every side from dawn to dusk

I sailed around the house for most of the day and my lynn caftan was sublimely cool and comfortable so today I am making another one to wear tomorrow. A beautiful viscose, 3m with a defect that does does not bother me. Teeny tiny white dot every so often, hardly visible. This is gorgeous viscose, vibrant red flowers on a dusky black. Cost me only £12, which is why I stock up when offered these bargains

Ok now I will own up about the 5m of beautiful dress linen, pure linen, another defect? I cannot see the defect. It is dry now, has been draped over two airers in my living room. Big pale flowers on black. Bargain £40. I think the sale has to be over soon. I have another 5m linen waiting to be pre-washed, maroon and white

Its all about sewing `again` I finished the newest pattern toile. Hated working with rayon but the blouse is gorgeous to wear and so cool because of the dolman sleeves. I will wear this toile and my next version will be made from cotton lawn. I will put a photo up

4 fans were on here yesterday, I can see the same happening today. I intend to remain cool, everything has been watered again this morning but I may have to repeat at lunchtime. The allotment is fine, very different soil

Roses, I once had a horrible photosensitive heat rash around my chin and neck. I had to wear a sun blocking cream to cope and remember the bad itching. I hope your rash does go away soon, it is really horrible for you. I have sun-blocking long sleeved t shirts for cycling, made from polyester as it has to be close weave to block the sun

I did get them from lands end but maybe solabri will also have something to help. I also have sun blocking hiking thin shirts, uk supplier but solabri does sell good sun blocking stuff and they are quick to arrive from australia

Good morning from north Wales, it is not sunny yet but it is forecast to be hot.
Yesterday I visited Llandudno and sat on the pier whilt GDs were in the amusement arcade.
We all got the tram up the great Orme and enjoyed the blew from the top, sadly the cafe was closed at 4pm so could not have refreshments.
Today GD2's schoolfriend is joining us for a week, I reckon we will have to go shopping if family can get themselves stirred before lunchtime.
The kitchen equipment is in a shocking state and not at all suitable for the ten people that this house is supposed to cater for.

Yesterday jobs were done early, including a legal bod visit at 11 to sort out our POA’s
I’ll be out in the next hour, farm shop and butcher before stretch class at 10:30, pub tonight - maybe. I was quite happy yesterday sitting in front of of the chiller unit with cold air wafting over me.
I’ll water the greenhouse before 9 too.

Morning all from my cabin on the Rhine somewhere near Strasbourg. Today’s outing is a morning trip to Strasbourg, including a one and a half hour waking tour. We’re not going! It’s going to be hot so me and OH will sit on deck with our books and a cool drink or two!

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, dry sunny and already quite warm. I slept well but woke at 5.00, so opened a few windows on the shady side of the house. Yesterday I had a podiatrist appointment then went on to DD1’s to keep the dog company while they were in the office. I had closed all windows and blinds before going out, but the house was like an oven when I got back at 6.00.
Lunchtime bingo today and must do a little gardening, the weeds don’t shrivel like the other plants!

Ginny I remember DH and I walked from Mullion to Kynance on a very hot day, hoping for a swim there. It was thronged - like penguins in the Antarctic; standing room only, but we found a quieter cove on the way back! It is incredibly beautiful.

It was so pleasant being able to sit in the garden yesterday. I finished sewing GDG’s badges on to her Brownie top then carried on with crocheting granny squares.

Back to Edinburgh today but not till the afternoon as the girls are at an art club today. The eldest used to go to this class every week, it’s held outdoors in Holyrood Park and the children make pictures and collages with whatever they are able gather in the woods.

Yesterday I had a lovely day just pottering about the house. I washed all the windows and did some cleaning. I looked out all the holiday clothes and sandals etc. In the afternoon, I was sucked down a memory hole. I decided to watch the documentary about the journey to Live Aid and watched all three episodes because it was engrossing. I think Bob Geldof would be a very difficult man to live with but his passion for helping could be seen.
Today I'll pack my case. The bedding is in the machine because I like a fresh bed to come home to. I'll wash the floors later because I enjoy having a clean house to come home to as well. I must nip to the hole in the wall for some money to pay the taxi to the airport. I offered to do that and DD will pay the return journey. We are meeting ds at the airport. Apparently the boys are already hyper about the holiday. Dgs2 wants to sit beside me in the taxi and on the airplane. I'll probably take a break from social media so I'll see you when I return. Good morning from an already 18 degrees Cambridgeshire. I have been awake since 4 so will be tired later.

The little ones are coming for dinner later after school and the 11 year old has had her hair cut. There will be drama’s as she does not like having it cut and gets herself in such a state. She has very long hair that desperately needs tidying up. DD2 will be in a tiz 🤷‍♀️ My 6 year old Dgs does not help with his comments 🙈
Otherwise a quiet day at home with a friend popping by for a coffee or chilled drink maybe. DH has the boys breakfast club and lawn bowls to keep him happy (and occupied).
