Hello Kitcheners- hope you don't mind and apologies if a new kitchen has already been opened elsewhere but I couldn't find it if there has... I've done my best but it still needs a few throws and cushions to make it more homely, ready for the nights drawing in and chillier evenings. Some freshly baked scones, jam and cream on the side if you fancy a treat.
I hope you dont think it presumptious of me to start this kitchen as I don't post as regularly as some of you but do find Soops Kitchen a lovely place to drop into even if I've nothing to say.

Good news for you Blossoming and hopeful for SueD
NN I hope your infection soon clears up.When waiting for my TKR we were warned about leg infections/ injuries however slight and I got a cancellation because someone was not able to go ahead because of an infection.
I still haven’t completely got over my couple of days away.
I have been shattered and not myself at all.
I visited my difficult friend this afternoon, apart from the repetition of the last many visits she was ok.
She is waiting for results from blood and urine tests taken on Monday as she has been diagnosed with chronic kidney failure stage 3.
I think this is manageable with diet and meds but she is in a state about it.
I can’t reassure her so will leave it to her family now.
I have had beef in red wine tonight with several portions for the freezer.
It was not bad at all.
I shall have an early night again and hope to sleep.
I know I will have left people out of my missive, it is not intentional, I just don’t remember but at the time I read your post my very best wishes went to you.
Have the best evening you can everyone.

Ouch GrandmaC47 that was fortuitous with your daughter, I hope you heal well.
Hopeful news SueD for your son and I'm pleased your husband is stable, long may it last.
Hurray Blossoming and a bracing walk today 🙂
brook I am envious of the scrunchy leaves! I’ll be hoping soon near me, we had damp, low cloud today, so not yet.
I was at the dentist today for a scan, another tooth will be added to my three toothed denture, a call later means I must go for another one tomorrow - better be free!
We’ve been to our local, free first drink for its one year anniversary, sandwiches and cake, funnily enough it was pretty busy….
I hope the FGT’s have rested today, it’s a damn gruelling journey for them and others in a similar position.

brook2704 Wed 08-Oct-25 20:15:07

Hope your hand is a bit better tomorrow grandmac47, sounds like your DD knows what she’s doing, hopefully no need for a doctor
Uttb 💐 and Blossoming sounds good re the stairlift
Well done with the dentist Jax 👍
Fgt hoping your DH is doing ok ❤️

There’s a general sadness in the kitchen isn’t there? No-one has posted all day (Thursday).
Maybe it would be good to all have a group hug? I for one would love one tonight.
Thoughts with you all, especially those (like me) who retreat to the quiet corner when life gets tough. x

gillgran Thu 09-Oct-25 19:04:50

I agree, FGT, I'm feeling the same. A group hug very welcome. x
Warm thoughts to all. x

Blossoming Thu 09-Oct-25 19:06:39

FGT2 you are welcome to a big hug from me at any time! I’m sure the rest of this lovely kitchen will agree with me ♥️♥️

I am feeling quietly content today, I am not going any headspace to those worrying niggles. MrB assures me that we can do this, together, and I am happy with this.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 09-Oct-25 19:13:58

Sending (((hugs)))

After my day of builders, dust & grime I will join you all in the quiet corner, I will pass on the tea & cake and go for a very large glass of wine 🍷

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 09-Oct-25 19:42:11

A lovely virtual hug. Thanks all, 💕
Support and kindness means such a lot doesn’t it when times are tough?
Anxiety is draining. x

Doodle Thu 09-Oct-25 19:50:49

FGT hugs and love from me and prayers for strength to keep going. 💕

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 09-Oct-25 19:53:07

Thank you Doodle. 👋

Chemotherapy is brutal. It has to be. And this time Himself is starting from a lower point. But miracles can happen sometimes.

Jaxjacky Thu 09-Oct-25 19:55:44

Hi all, big hugs from me 🫂
Second trip to the dentist, all done - for now. Then GP, one of those days, an online consult at 1 resulted in a 2pm phone call ‘ can you come now’. A minor panic, is it that serious and I breezed past those waiting after a minute and emerged with a prescription after 10 minutes, great service.
It’s been a glorious day with easily dried bedding.
There is a melancholy over the kitchen for sure, lots of worry with poorly people we love, unsettled families, personal illnesses or injuries. Let’s hope some of the rays from today’s sun can creep into our kitchen soon x

GrandmaC47 Thu 09-Oct-25 20:06:21

A big hug from me too.
DD2 has done a great job on my hand. She called this morning and it is looking promising. The plan is to leave the steri strips untouched for four or five days, apparently that is the standard practice. I’m now wondering how I can manage to keep myself clean 😂 guess it will be a strip wash using my left hand. Difficult for a right hander. A minor problem compared to those with enduring harder times.

Grannmarie Thu 09-Oct-25 20:50:12

Good evening, lovely Kitchen people.
Yes, there is a lot of sadness and worry amongst us at the moment, but I'm so glad we have this safe haven where we can share our fears and receive much love and support to help us through.Thank you dear Soop for setting up this special place. 💕

Thank you, FGT, for the group hug, much appreciated. Sending gentle hugs back to you and your dear man. 💕🙏🕯

Thank you Baggs for the update, you are a dear and loyal friend to the Soops, this must be so hard for you. 💐

Thinking of SueD, her DHand DS, Dragonfly and DH, and all our dear friends with illness, worries or sorrow.💕🙏🕯Sending much love and daily prayers for confort, strength and peace of mind.

Well done to your daughter, GrandmaC47, I hope your hand heals quickly.

Excellent care from your dentist and GP Jaxjacky.

Aww, Blossoming, you deserve your contentment, not l9ng now till you are home with your wonderful MrB.💕

Neine, I hope your leg heals soon.🙏

Grannygravy, may I join you in a glass of wine? I've had a busy day!
Aquafit followed by Strength and Balance class, then lunch with my childhood friend. An hour's knit and natter at my sister's, then home to make dinner, savoury mince and tatties. DS3 joined me for dinner on his way home from work, it was so good to have him to myself for a wee while. 💙

My sisters and I are off to Geneva on Sunday, a new destination for us all, we're looking forward to it. I don't enjoy packing or travelling these days, but I do love to arrive!!

Wishing everyone a peaceful Thursday evening and a good night's sleep.
TOYA, NNGB.

Redcar Thu 09-Oct-25 21:19:06

Am I too late to join the group hug? I’ve been keeping my DD1’s labradoodle company all day and looking after a 10 year old and very grumpy 7 year old after school. I spent most of the day trying to find a chair that my back was comfortable in, and failed miserably. I think I have strained the muscles in my spine which will take a while to heal. Nothing compared to the issues that most of you lovely Kitcheners are coping with.
* neine* I hope your leg heals soon.
Thinking of fgt and her DH, dragonfly and her DH, blossoming, sueD, grandma47 and of course, the soops, plus anyone else suffering in any way. I’m trying not to go to bed yet, if I go to sleep now I’ll be awake at silly o’clock!
Night night everyone.

Grannydaisy1 Thu 09-Oct-25 21:53:20

I agree
Group hug too

SueDonim Thu 09-Oct-25 22:31:38

I’d like to join the group hug, too. 🥰

TOYA. Xx

brook2704 Thu 09-Oct-25 22:40:02

Sending a very late group hug from me too ❤️
A busy day here, we’re not long home from DD2s, we’ve just been keeping an eye on DGD whilst everyone was out. Then tomorrow I’m off to Cambridge to visit DD1 and family, it’ll be lovely to see them all
Good news that your hand looks like it’s healing ok grandmac47
Safe travels grannmarie and enjoy Geneva
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

Grannmarie Thu 09-Oct-25 23:05:14

Thank you, brook, safe journey to Cambridge and enjoy your family visit.

Sorry to hear you've hurt your back, Redcar, hope you manage to sleep OK.

Nannytopsy Thu 09-Oct-25 23:53:07

Group hug for you all to wake up to tomorrow. There are so many who need one right now.
Today should have been a busy housework day and baking for the arrival of DD and family tomorrow. Instead I spent most of it doing preschool and school pick ups, then train station runs. My lovely grandson was punched in the face by a year 7 classmate and spent all day in A&E, eventually going to another hospital for the maxilla facial surgeon to stitch his lip and all the damage inside his cheek.
A rather shaken little chap finally got home at 9pm. Now we wait to see if the school stands up to its “we don’t tolerate bullying” policy.
I hope he’s fast asleep by now.
Hope you all are too! Night night xx

mamaa Fri 10-Oct-25 16:43:03

Sending my hug now as presently I’m
connected to the very erratic wifi at this caravan site, couldn’t get on last night so it might be a similar issue later!
I sometimes think that with the end of Summer and Autumn not yet in full technicolour, this can be a time of feeling in the doldrums without really knowing why- often happens to me.
Some of us however, do presently have our reasons for feeling this way and that adds to our general malaise.
Without my worries I’ve often thought that hibernation around November to March would work for me. A long sleep, waking a couple of stones lighter!
Just my thoughts- don’t want to upset anyone by my musings.
Anyhow will stop rambling now and wish you all as best an evening ahead as is possible. x

Blossoming Fri 10-Oct-25 18:37:18

Good evening all, today we have had two long bracing walks, along the river and around the marina. We saw a kingfisher perched on the railing near the bridge, such a beautiful wee bird.

I know what you mean about the doldrums mamaa, MrB finds this time of year difficult. I am just feeling grateful to be alive right now and am even finding pleasure in feeling the cold wind on my face.

Sending you all love and strength ♥️

TillyTrotter Fri 10-Oct-25 18:48:43

Miracles can happen FGT , you hold on to that thought. Why should your beloved ‘Himself* not be a recipient of a miracle?
You deserve it. 🫶

TillyTrotter Fri 10-Oct-25 18:49:28

Blossoming you are a ray of hope and sunshine 💐

Jaxjacky Fri 10-Oct-25 19:45:33

I had ‘an incident’ earlier cooking Swede, my friend phoned, forgot all about it!! Cleaned up soon enough.
It’s been an overcast, cool day, so I’ve been rather lazy, I did meander to the pub earlier, Rum & Reggae, busy, caught up with someone whose not been in there for 5 years.
It as that time of year, dull days with little shine don't help those with their own heavy clouds hanging over them.
Blossomin you beam your own sunshine 🙂
I hope brook journeyed well to Cambridge.

Redcar Fri 10-Oct-25 19:53:06

blossoming how lovely to have had two walks today. Well done!
mamaa I’m another one who would like to hibernate from November to March, I’m already waking up later because it’s not getting light as early now. I might like to wake up for Christmas but otherwise could happily sleep for the winter!
nannytopsy how awful for your poor grandson, I hope his face isn’t too painful and that he’ll make a full and speedy recovery. I hope the school deals firmly with the aggressor.

I’ve had a quiet day, my DD2 came over with a grumpy not quite 3 year old and tried unsuccessfully to sort out my Ring doorbell. She gave up and put an ordinary bell on the wall instead, which works fine. She also helped me to put the electric blanket on my bed, ready for the colder nights.

Night night everyone, sleep well.
