Hello Kitcheners- hope you don't mind and apologies if a new kitchen has already been opened elsewhere but I couldn't find it if there has... I've done my best but it still needs a few throws and cushions to make it more homely, ready for the nights drawing in and chillier evenings. Some freshly baked scones, jam and cream on the side if you fancy a treat.
I hope you dont think it presumptious of me to start this kitchen as I don't post as regularly as some of you but do find Soops Kitchen a lovely place to drop into even if I've nothing to say.

Blossoming your posts are always so uplifting. Thank you!
I hope all is well in the FGT household.
Nannytopsy that sounds horrific! And at school, where our GC should be safe? sad How is the poor lad today? Sore, I imagine.
I hope Cambridge is fun, Brook.
Charred swede on the menu today, Jax? grin I bet that ponged a bit!
I’m using my electric blanket already, Redcar.

It’s a glorious day today, full on sunshine. Laundry outside! DS2 should arrive back from his travels later on this afternoon. He’s notoriously difficult to pin down with timings. We looked after newly-4yo GS yesterday. He’s such a sweetie, he loves to help so he lugged a bag of shopping back to the car. It was almost as big as him! Then we did some babysitting while his mum was out, until his dad got home from work.

I decided to have a relaxing bath yesterday evening, Before I’d even managed to get into it, one of my cats fell in! There was a loud bang and a wet cat shot past me and took up residence on the stairs, furiously washing his wet fur and glaring at me because, obviously, it was all my fault. grin I’ve lost count of how often he’s fallen in - he never learns.

Have a lovely weekend. Xxx

Himself is sleeping. Most of the day. Only had a slice of toast for lunch ‘no more’. Obviously it makes me super anxious. Is it the fatigue from chemo + strong pain relief? Or is the cancer growing like last time. Time will tell. All I can do is hope and try to distract myself in this very quiet place. x

Usedtobeblonde Sat 11-Oct-25 13:46:06

Oh how much I feel for you FGT
Stay positive, all you can do.
SueD what a lovely day you had.
My yiungest GS is 14, how I miss those far off days when they were young .
Last week he came briefly with his elder B with whom he lives. As he stood in the doorway I-remarked how tall he was getting and he said” that’s a real Grandma thing to say”
It made me chuckle how they see us.
I am going out with my GD, her friend and her baby cousin in his pram.
I am going on my scooter for the first time in many weeks.
I am quite excited.

SueDonim Sat 11-Oct-25 13:55:35

Thinking of you, FGT. FWIW, I hadn’t realised how the chemo had made Dh sleep so much, until he finished the course and he’s no longer asleep for half the day. It’s quite an insult to the body. flowers

Redcar Sat 11-Oct-25 14:01:01

sueD I giggled when I read about your cat, but it made my back cramp again! Of course he thought it was your fault for running a bath!
utbb I regularly tell my eldest granddaughter how tall she’s getting and she just gives me a 🙄. Enjoy your scooter ride!
fgt so sorry you’re having such a worrying time flowers
I’m about to tackle a pile of ironing but probably won’t do much of it!

Grannydaisy1 Sat 11-Oct-25 14:21:11

Fgt. Thoughts are with you and himself. Big hugs to you both

brook2704 Sat 11-Oct-25 14:50:45

Fgt thinking of you both 💐
Oh my goodness nannytopsy your poor DGS, I hope he’s feeling a bit better today and the school have done everything needed
All good in Cambridge thank you all, I arrived yesterday late after. We’re just in from spending a few hours at an ‘Apple’ day locally, lots of activities for the children and a few little shops for the adults. We sat outside for lunch, a lovely autumn day just a slight chill in the air
Shame about the burnt surface Jax but hope it can be fixed ok
I’m always saying that Uttb, in fact I said it this morning - I’ll remember your DGSs words from now on!
So funny about your cat SueD 🤭

Grannmarie Sat 11-Oct-25 15:37:32

Good afternoon, lovely Kitchen people. 🥰

Aww, shame about your turnip, Jaxjacky, I've done that too, had to soak the pot in salt for ages. I love mashed peppered turnip with mince, tatties, carrots and onions.

I laughed at your cat's escapade , SueD! 🐈‍⬛🤣Cant believe your wee DGS is 4 already, time flies.

FGT, I'm thinking of you and your dear man. 💕🙏💐 Keep hoping, I'll keep praying. Sleep is restorative, and strong pain killers do cause drowsiness. Try to rest yourself while Himself dozes. 😴💕😴 I'm a great fan of the sofa siesta.

Enjoy your outing, UsedToBeBlonde, it'll do you a power of good! I laughed at your DGS's ' Grandma thing to say'. We had a much loved maiden auntie who was a great help to me when the boys were wee. As they grew, she'd always ask them,
" What size of shoes are you wearing now?"
I've found myself doing it with the DGC!

Good luck with your ironing, Redcar, hope the standing doesn't hurt your back too much.

Hello 👋 Grannydaisy

Great photo, brook, glad you're enjoying your family visit to Cambridge.

Here I am, catching up on GN, when I should be packing for our sisters ' trip to Geneva tomorrow.... everything is washed and ironed, just have to decide what I'm actually taking! Also, trying to leave the house in order, I like to return to a clean tidy place....
We're meeting up at the Vigil Mass this evening, hope I'm better organised by then.🤞

Wishing everyone a peaceful weekend, thinking of the Soops and all our dear friends in the Quiet Corner. 💕🙏💐 TOYA

Usedtobeblonde Sat 11-Oct-25 16:35:36

We walked/rode to our local Asda. I so enjoyed it .
There and back was 5k, the furthest I have been though not actually in time.
It is a beautiful day here, lovely Autumn weather, we are so lucky..
Fish pie from the freezer tonight with a glass of Pinot Grigio.
Enjoy your evening everyone.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 11-Oct-25 17:00:21

I could just hop on the 23 bus and come and join you uttb!

Jaxjacky Sat 11-Oct-25 18:46:13

Hi all, great utbb you sound rejuvenated!
Have a lovely time Grannmarie too early for snow I suppose, safe travels.
Do I spot a Russet brook? you don’t see them much now.
The sun came out today, for a while, I bought some more swede 😏, the pan from yesterday, after a 10 minutes simmer with a dishwasher tablet is fine.
We erected going to a local play tonight until I discovered it’s a musical, not for us I'm afraid!
FGT it’s so hard, big hug for you, gentle one for himself x

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 11-Oct-25 18:50:41

A big hug for FGT2. I’m thinking of you both. 🪻

Jaxjacky Sat 11-Oct-25 18:53:46

Not sure where erected came from 🤣🤣

GrandmaC47 Sat 11-Oct-25 18:57:21

Fgt 💐💐

Nannytopsy Sat 11-Oct-25 21:03:50

Thank you for your concerns. DGS is very sore and his lip is very swollen. You can’t tell what he says, so I don’t think he will be at school on Monday. The police are involved over the assault, so we await decisions. Littlest DGS & DGD are asleep upstairs while DD & DSiL are out for dinner. The responsibility!
I hope all is going well FGT - you are in everyone’s thought just now.
Love to the soops

Grannmarie Sat 11-Oct-25 21:08:16

So sorry to hear about your DGS, Nannytopsy, poor boy, hope he heals quickly, mentally and physically. 💙

Grannmarie Sat 11-Oct-25 21:10:35

I'm packed now, relaxing with Glen Campbell on BBC 4. Early night planned.*NNGB*.

Usedtobeblonde Sat 11-Oct-25 21:32:11

If only you would * FGT*
You don’t know just how welcome you would be,flowers

Grannydaisy1 Sat 11-Oct-25 22:03:41

Thinking of you and himself, FGT. He is blessed to have you looking after him.

Nannytopsy Sun 12-Oct-25 00:17:49

Enjoy your holiday Grannmarie

dragonfly46 Sun 12-Oct-25 08:24:43

How shocking Topsy school should be a place where children are safe!

Chemo does make you very tired, thinking of you both FGT.

Jaxjacky Sun 12-Oct-25 09:24:01

Sorry NannyTopsy I missed your post (keep getting big black advert interfering on GN).
That sounds nasty and quite vicious, poor lad, I hope he recovers speedily and the perpetrator is suitably punished - probably not.

Usedtobeblonde Sun 12-Oct-25 10:22:55

Good morning all.
It is misty and Octoberish here today.
After another disturbed night , no reason, I just don’t think I need much sleep now, I am only just getting going.

I have also just read about your GS Naanytopsy I hope his mental state is healing as his face does, what an awful thing to
happen in a school, sadly it is becoming more common.

My GD has just gone to the gym for an hour and when she gets back we are going out to look for some ideas for curtains for “ my snug”.
This is the room I turned my never used dining room into in the spring.
It is my refuge from family life and so far only has blinds but with winter on the doorstep it will be much cosier with curtains.
I hope all the poorlies and their carers have a decent day, it can be a difficult and lonely place.
Many of us will remember it.
