Hello Kitcheners- hope you don't mind and apologies if a new kitchen has already been opened elsewhere but I couldn't find it if there has... I've done my best but it still needs a few throws and cushions to make it more homely, ready for the nights drawing in and chillier evenings. Some freshly baked scones, jam and cream on the side if you fancy a treat.
I hope you dont think it presumptious of me to start this kitchen as I don't post as regularly as some of you but do find Soops Kitchen a lovely place to drop into even if I've nothing to say.

Naughtyneine Wed 29-Oct-25 08:42:10

Oh Grandmabatty, I hope the little ones arm isn't too painful, bless him. He probably wanted to go to nursery to show off his cast. The adults take longer to get over the trauma than the wee ones don't they!!!

Granmarie...I really hope you get stronger each day...maybe the leaves can wait a while longer. Mind you I do understand your thinking, .... I'll just pop out and sweep up those leaves that I've been looking at for days' and then regretting it. I've got a vitamin D spray from Holland and Barrett that boosts your immune system, maybe when you are better you could get one too. I started using it after I had a year of one lurgy after another and I think it has helped.

Blossoming... It's so lovely to read and see pictures that tell of you getting better day by day. Long may it continue.

Corner...as Scarlet O Hara said, ,'tomorrow is another day' and I'm hoping that today all things technical sort themselves out for you.

Jax... What a lovely picture of your Granddaughter, proud Grandma time.

SueD and FGT....love and prayers for you both

Brook, I'm very jealous about your gym classes just now. I haven't been able to go for 5 weeks because of the wound and now the situation with my hip I think means I won't be able to go until they are certain it's not slipping/ dislocating ( it certainly feels like something is giving). A buggeration as our lovely Soop would say.

Nannytopsy Wed 29-Oct-25 09:21:30

Morning everyone! GrandmaB that is the same break that my DGD had earlier in the year when she fell off monkey bars. She’s fully healed now and back to her gymnastics so I hope your little chap doesn’t need surgery and heals quickly.
My cold is slowly abating and I have nearly done the ironing. Lots of WI admin to do and some baking for the charity cafe. My specialty is sausage rolls which are always popular. I make 9 decent sized ones from a pack of ready rolled puff pastry and Tesco finest sausage meat. I have done them so often that they only take a few moments. I will make a cake too - fruit cake perhaps.
I will leave some of both on the side for you to try. Love to all in pain and with worries.

Usedtobeblonde Wed 29-Oct-25 09:38:01

Good morning everyone and thank you for the sausage roll NannyT I will save it for my lunch if you don’t mind.
I have been known to succumb to a Greggs when I have been near one of their shops but home made is so much nicer.

After a famine of company and going out I am out with a friend for coffee this morning, I can’t stay on for lunch ,much as I would like to, but I see my friend up the road on Wednesday and I would feel guilty for cancelling even though at the moment she brings me down with her negativity.

Sorry to hear about your GS GrandmaB I hope his pain has lessened and he is soon back at nursery.

We have a dry morning here in contrast to the wet weather widely reported on GM.

I hope those of you with Covid, colds and the other conditions far more serious are comfortable today and managing life.
My fondest thought are with you.

Grannmarie Wed 29-Oct-25 19:46:45

Good evening everyone, what a quiet Kitchen tonight.

Thank you for your kind wishes, Neine, your Vitamin Spray sounds interesting. I take Omega 3 and Vitamin D in capsule/tablet form daily. Hoping and praying for healing for your sore leg.🙏

Thank you for the sausage roll, Nannytopsy I'm partial to one with brown sauce! Glad you're on the mend.

UsedToBeBlonde, I hope you enjoyed your catch ups with your friends, and that your lunchtime companion was a bit more positive today. I remember years ago on a training day, it was suggested that we could protect ourselves from negative people/ situations by visualising an invisible forcefield dome being lowered around you to the tune of Thunderbirds are go! We often laughed about that, when we were involved in stressful meetings you could often hear a colleague or two humming the tune! 🎶

I hope Grandmabatty's wee DGS has had a comfortable day, and the family are all recovering from the upset.

I've had a better day, managed to strip the bed, sanitise all the surfaces in my room then hoover thoroughly and put on fresh bedding. I'll have a nice shower and fresh jammies soon, then enjoy my Covid free room. Windows were open wide!

Thinking of all our dear friends with illness, worries or sorrow. Wishing everyone a peaceful Wednesday evening and a good night's sleep. TOYA

Jaxjacky Wed 29-Oct-25 20:03:03

Hi all, you do sound on the up Grannmarie, good, but neine is still suffering, I hope your hip is looked at speedy quickly.
How is the tree jumper Grandmabatty what an awkward injury?
I’ve had book club today, then another dental visit - planned - a quick ten minutes next week and hopefully done for a while.
In the great scheme rubbish teeth are an (expensive), vain annoyance, as we know there are far worse things out there.
Out to lunch with a friend tomorrow, meanwhile, in an hour, Traitors.
Enjoy your evenings.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 29-Oct-25 20:06:48

DH is out, I am in my PJ’s on the sofa waiting for Traitors.

It has rained all day here, hope it stops soon.

Grandmabatty Wed 29-Oct-25 20:47:02

Evening Kitcheners. The tree jumper has had a good day apparently and has hardly mentioned his arm. I went into the nursery this morning to show photos of him with his plaster cast on. His key teacher was really upset about it. We made it clear that we don't hold them responsible at all. He fell awkwardly. They have done a risk assessment and a care plan for him and he should be back on Monday.
I have had a rotten day. I did a spot of work in the school library then came home. I have felt so nauseous all day and completely off my food. I think it's connected to the flu vaccination I had yesterday. My upper eyelid on my right eye has swollen too. So I'm seriously out of sorts. My neighbour came over with Halloween stickers for the boys. She is so kind. I looked a sight! I was in my dressing gown and my hair was sticking up. Anyway, I'm going to get up and have a cuppa and a biscuit. I really want a ginger snap but none in the house. It'll have to be a cookie. Hopefully I'll sleep tonight.
What a moaning Minnie! Take care all

Jaxjacky Wed 29-Oct-25 21:29:35

Warm water compress for your eye Grandmabatty I hope you sleep well and feel better tomorrow.

Blossoming Wed 29-Oct-25 22:30:01

I’m late tonight. We have enjoyed two lovely walks today, MrB made a lovely chilli for tea which we had with oatcakes that needed using. Then we watched a rather silly sci-fi movie. Hope you all have a peaceful night TOYA ♥️

brook2704 Wed 29-Oct-25 22:52:20

Hi everyone, a late kitchen visit this evening just before I turn the light off.
We’ve been round at DD2s keeping an eye on the children whilst DD2 was out at the hairdressers. They’ve both been busy, DGD enjoyed going to a Halloween party at her Guides group and DGS was outside playing on his bike with the local children. We got home about 9.30 and have just watched the Traitors on catch up. Tomorrow I’ve got a full day volunteering so I’d best get to sleep soon 😴

Sorry to hear you’ve had a rotten day grandmabatty hopefully you’ll sleep well tonight

Enjoy lunch out tomorrow Jax

Good to hear you’re feeling much better grannmarie

Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

cornergran Thu 30-Oct-25 00:27:27

Not the best week for you grandmab. Hope you’re sound asleep and tomorrow will be a much better day. It is good news that the little lad is coping well, the young ones are resilient for sure.

All things technical have been ignored today. In fact I’ve decided they can wait until a techie son, or indeed a six year old, is passing.

The car was booked at the garage from 8am, now why did we ever think that was a good idea? Rather than return home we had excellent breakfasts, hopped on a bus at 9 to the nearest city where we enjoyed revisiting the Cathedral. Not only is it a wonderful building it was warm and dry, the coffee in their cafe was good too smile. Once back a cuppa and cake was needed before collecting the car, we were home by 2. In spite of getting very wet it was all very enjoyable, well other than the horrid walk from and to the garage. All much better than fighting matters technical.

I also love sausage rolls, make them when I can, our neighbours seem to appreciate them hot out of the oven. Sometimes we get to keep some grin.

Your time with a friend for coffee sounded good utbb. Hope the afternoon wasn’t as difficult as you feared.

I truly should be asleep. Mr C is snoring contentedly, he’s an excellent sleeper. Me? The opposite these days. .

Wishing you all a peaceful night.

Grandmabatty Thu 30-Oct-25 19:30:26

A very quiet kitchen today. Cornergran you had a busy day yesterday. Brook I hope your volunteering went well. Jaxjacky thank you for your advice. I did warm water with a little salt. It's still swollen but not painful.
The nausea has subsided today and I feel better. I didn't drive to Stirling for my art class though and avoided driving today. So today I've pottered about the house, did a wash, emptied and loaded the dishwasher and hoovered. I've also watched a Korean zombie thing which I've really enjoyed, sad person that I am. Dgs2 has to go back for more x-rays tomorrow. He's been very good about it all. Tomorrow I might do half an hour in the school library before my doctor's appointment then organise Halloween bags for night time. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners.

Jaxjacky Thu 30-Oct-25 19:44:14

Hi all, my friend makes delicious sausage rolls cornergran with fennel seeds on top, I hope you had some sleep.
Thanks brook I did, yours today in between ‘sessions’ too I hope.
Windy today, lots of leaves raining down and swirling from the trees, it really was quite pretty, good catch up with my friend, pud was resisted.
Then a long phone call with another friend, so I didn’t make the calls I should have done to negotiate phone and TV contracts, now run their course, tomorrow then 🙂.
A gentle day was called for Grandmabatty another tomorrow wouldn’t hurt either.
I do hope any other poorlies have had a reasonable day and those caring for loved ones have had some reassurance, a big hug works 🥰

brook2704 Thu 30-Oct-25 20:54:02

Hi kitchen pals, hope everyone is doing ok
I’ve had a good day at the volunteering centre, a good catch up with the other volunteers, an update from the team in charge and a simulated ward round this afternoon. DH had dinner ready to go in the oven when I got home. I’ve been lazy this evening and done nothing except browse online for a new iPad - the battery in this one is definitely on its last legs but I was hoping it would last a bit longer so I could get a new one for Christmas.
I can hear the wind blowing here too Jax no rain though
Pleased to hear you’re feeling a bit better grandmabatty hope tomorrows appt goes well
Sounds like a good day corner even though it was an early start
Hope you’ve got your walk in today Blossoming
Being at the end of a quiet cul de sac we don’t get many trick or treaters on Halloween here but my friend just down the road decorates her garden with all things creepy and gets absolutely loads of children calling round 🎃 DGD will be dressing up and going out with 3 of her friends but I think DD2 will be keeping an eye on her from somewhere in the background
Just about ready now to watch The Traitors …

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 30-Oct-25 21:05:39

All things technical have been ignored today. In fact I’ve decided they can wait until a techie son, or indeed a six year old, is passing

Oh cornergran thanks for the chuckle.
Much needed.

Redcar Thu 30-Oct-25 21:48:49

I haven’t had a sausage roll for ages! I used to make my own but I’ve become a very lazy gran! I must make some, I can eat one or two and then freeze the rest.
I had my back X-ray today, not a pleasant experience as my back doesn’t really like having to lie flat on a hard surface. It’s just starting to feel a little better, 12 hours after the X-ray. No idea when I’ll get the results, but it should start to improve in the next few weeks, even it’s another fracture.
I hope to plant the remaining bulbs in pots either tomorrow or over the weekend, we are forecast showers over the next few days/weeks so they should be watered in nicely.
There seem to be fewer houses with Hallowe’en decorations this year. My granddaughters are all at parties tomorrow afternoon and may go out trick or treating afterwards. But one of the seven year olds wants to stay at home to answer the door to any children who call! I’ll be in my living room at the back of the house, there’ll be no lights on at the front of the house to discourage callers!
I hope everyone has a better sleep tonight! Best wishes to those who have mountains to climb.
Night night everyone.

Grannmarie Thu 30-Oct-25 22:33:06

Good evening, everyone.

You certainly had a busy day yesterday Cornergran, I like to read of your outings, they usually include cake! DH and I used to share an enormous fruit and cream meringue at one of our favourite garden centres, happy memories. I hope you sleep better tonight.

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better Grandmabatty, you were wise to stay close to home. I hope your appointment, and your wee DGS's, go well tomorrow. I laughed at your movie, DS2 tells me that the latest craze for kids is K-Pop Demon Hunters , in the top ten on Netflix. Korean animation, PG, girl band meets boy band with a sprinkling of cartoon demons... there's a sing along version too, like Frozen!🤣 I hear that the Wee Boy is joining in.

Jaxjacky, I am in awe of your willpower, resisting pudding! Glad you had a good catch up with your friend. My dear friend is hoping to get home from hospital soon, she's had a big fright and is far from well, but the infection has been treated and she is now off oxygen. New medications and follow up treatment, but I'm so thankful she's still here.

Your DH is a star, brook, how lovely to come home after a busy day to your dinner all ready. Hope your DGD enjoys her guising/ trick or treating. I've handed in Halloween bags to the wee boys in our road as tomorrow I'm planning going through to see our Wee Boy all dressed up before his Daddy takes him round the doors.

Laughter is the best medicine, FGT, it will do you a power of good!

Today was my first day out and driving since I got Covid. I only went to the local Asda, but I wanted a wee trip before my longer drive tomorrow, I'm still easily tired.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Thursday night and a good night's sleep. TOYA, NNGB.

Grannmarie Thu 30-Oct-25 22:36:29

Crossed posts, Redcar, good to see you. Sorry to hear that your x Ray was so painful, hopefully it will lead to helpful treatment for your poor back. Hope your grandchildren enjoy Halloween!.

Grandmabatty Fri 31-Oct-25 00:27:30

Grannmarie the boys are big fans of Demon Hunters too! My Alexa is regularly asked to play the two main songs and we've watched some of it.
I'm glad you are feeling better. Take it easy though.

cornergran Fri 31-Oct-25 00:49:47

You know those days when nothing goes to plan? If I may I’ll bore you with the details.

Just before 10 we loaded the car to take rubbish to the tip to find an enormous queue. Too long to consider joining it we changed the order of the morning and carried on. When I checked it was because on Thursdays it opens at 10 not 9. At least we weren’t the only ones who didn’t know.

Off we go into town to deposit a smallish for us bag at a charity shop, have coffee and have a quick look. for something cheerful and comfortable to wear when Santa comes. I like to be prepared. Usually it’s easy to park. Today? The world was out, it took four circuits before Mr C who is a whizz at parallel parking squeezed the car into a gap. I had of course forgotten the gift aid card for the charity shop, as usual the volunteer staffing the till smiled and found Mr C’s details without even a sigh. I suspect she shudders when she sees me at the door.

Coffee next. Three tables were tried before I settled. Who would have freezing cold air conditioning blowing today? No cake this morning, we both felt very virtuous.

Suitably restored a bright red sweater was purchased, subtle it’s not as it’s covered in sequins. Just right for gravy making after Santa has been. We headed home via a less busy tip, depositing the junk without incident. I go off to put the sweater away and noticed something white. The seams around the shoulders and upper arms have tape inside, about an inch was decorating the back of one arm. Half attached but not tucked away inside the seam. Did I dare just cut it off? Probably not. How did I not notice in the shop? Your guess is as good as mine.

We have lunch and then head back to change the wretched thing. I’ve gone right off it by this point. Same palaver to park, it was raining by then. Sweater changed by a very apologetic staff member we headed for - more coffee. No cake, we had a change with very good biscuits.

Back home peace finally prevailed. Settling this evening to watch The Traitors the phone went. Our former daughter in law wanting a chat. I’m grateful we get along and so suppressed the impulse to cut the conversation short. Yes, I know I can see it on catchup but it’s not the same.

So there we are, one of those days. Nothing that couldn’t be fixed and I know others are dealing with far worse. Currently there’s a repeat of last night. Mr C is sleeping peacefully and I’m wide awake. I’m on admin detail tomorrow and need to be able to think. I’ll sleep soon 🤞.

Drive carefully tomorrow granmarie. Stop for a break if you need to.

Hope your back is more comfortable in the morning redcar

Keep going gently grandmab.

Love to you both fgt.

Rest well everyone. Wishing you all a peaceful night.

Grandmabatty Fri 31-Oct-25 07:44:03

Oh Cornergran you definitely had 'one of those days'.

Naughtyneine Fri 31-Oct-25 09:14:39

Happy Halloween or Happy All Saints Eve.... We were due to go to a Halloween themed party tomorrow and I'd bought a sparkly green witches outfit too wear but it will have to wait until next year. Yesterday was an on the edge of tears day. I did cry on the phone to the lovely pre op assessment nurse and in the medical centre ( luckily I'd asked if I could speak to the receptionist in what she called the crying room). It was a combination of pain and frustration. I have now phoned every major hospital in the South West to ask if they do this special scan that my consultant wants me to have...none of them had heard of it. I then found out the name of the manufacturer who makes the system and phoned their UK head office but they couldn't tell me which hospitals have the equipment because I'm the patient, they can tell the Orthopaedic team though. So I then email it across the consultant along with a time line that stretched to 20 points. To cap it all my GP has sent me HRT patches ( which I can't use) and said my previous prescription isn't available...but it is just under a different name. I've tried explaining and giving her the new name but have drawn a blank so far. The upshot of it so far is that a doctor is calling me on Monday morning, In the meantime I've been told to up my pain medication by 3 times what I'm taking now. Good thing it's Halloween as I'll be a ready made zombie if I follow that piece of advice. DH like all loving husbands is cross because he hates seeing me in so much pain but I'm not cross as basically the scan is to provide the closest blueprint for when they operate to achieve the best result. Its just scary how quickly this is getting worse.
There... I've told you the tale of woe and now I will give myself a very strong talking to and apply enough make up to try and disguise the blotchy face and swollen eye lids. Or maybe I'll just don the witches outfit and complete the look. 🧙🧹

cornergran Fri 31-Oct-25 09:45:25

I’m so sorry neine. What a kerfuffle. You’ve done all you can and probably more than you should have to. 🤞 here for a speedy resolution.

Grannmarie Fri 31-Oct-25 12:58:49

Aww, Neine, 💕🙏

Grannmarie Fri 31-Oct-25 13:02:51

I'm off to drive through to see our Wee Boy. DiL2 is doing the school pick up to save me the walk, I'll wait for them in their Halloween house! 🎃

Thanks again for your kind wishes, lovely ladies.

TOYA.
