Good morning Mick and all GN's from a very chilly but dry North Yorkshire. I have enjoyed a very good cup of coffee and am now just waiting for my Bach before 7 to begin. Ah how nice to return to our routines isnt it?. It is always part of the holiday routine, we look forward to going away, seeing family and new places or whatever, but it also makes us appreciate our own homes and routines where we feel if not masters of our own lives totally some semblence of it!
Yesterday was a gentle but pleasant day. I had a little ride around various areas of Co Durham, with absolutely nothing on the roads it allowed me to pootle along, go up some little roads and lanes, enjoy the lovely countryside and relax. We had a very enjoyable meal of lots of cold meat and potato salad and coleslaw and beetroot, that very traditional boxing day meal for us. Didnt even get round to eating the christmas pudding so it might be todays treat. I listened to much lovely music of course and later watched the second part of Call the Midwife which you always had to suspend belief but this time was even more disjointed and unbelievable than before but didnt really matter. But what a change! I cant believe that a christmas time has come and gone without the original Railway children or Humphrey Bogart either in the African Queen or in Casablanca . Where is Claude Reine getting his cut from the gambling now!! I was sorry that I hadnt watched a bit of The Italian Job, always liked watching the minis hurtling up and down the steps everywhere. Used to have minis myself ranging from the minivan to the quite posh mini estate I think it was called in bright red. We went to Roumania and Bulgaria in that and found ourselves being the centre of attention in many small villages etc and wondered why until we realized that we were seen as part of the Party being in the red car, with everyone eager to see what we had come for, but once they realized we were just foreigners shrugged their shoulders and went off on their own business, no doubt relieved that we had not descended for any problems for them. Shades of Lieutenant Kije.
Not sure of plans for today. Either a trip out perhaps to the coast avoiding all sales and traffic and get some fresh air and find an even surface along a promenade to try out my new buggy and gain some practise and confidence in using it, or making a start . I am in a more decisive mood today, and hopefully am in that mode where I can actually look at clothes books and whatever else and say, right havent used or worn that for x time so it is going. Well touch wood, not quite so creaky this morning so action of some sort might happen but aint holding my breath. Didnt manage to ring my brother yesterday so that is one thing I shall attempt to do today. Other than that it is that rather free day when usual routines are not yet back on, but have fulfilled holiday commitments .
Hope the breakfast treat with friends turns out well Mick. GrandMattie time to reclaim your church space with no officious ladies butting in and a chance to return it to the way you like to see it. Quite satisfying when it is all back to "your" normal isnt it. No doubt you will hear from others of troubles and strife and unsuitable christmas presents, and it will add to your pleasure remembering your own pleasant time with your family.Harrigran hope a return to your own food and timekeepings will improve your health and if you take it steady today be back to normal tomorrow , fingers crossed. Karmalady good to hear you sounding more like your usual self and hope you have a good day today. Glammagranny sounds as though you will have a full on day. Lovely for everyone in the family to be together for once. Hope you get a photo or two of the occasion. With people moving all over for their jobs etc there are not many occasions where you manage to get everyone there without one or two missing.Bellasnana lovely to hear you sounding more like yourself and hope you continue to improve. You will no doubt miss the cat hot water bottle, I still miss mine after some years. No pets allowed in the flats here, I can understand it to a certain extent but still miss that soothing presence on rubbish days, and much prefer stroking a cat as a stress remover to having blood pressure tablets!! Wonder if they need anyone as a standin for the baddy in a new Bond movie? I could offer to sit there with stroking a beautiful cat at no extra cost to them!
Well hope everyone has an easy day, recuperating from visitors or enjoying the pleasure of their own beds again. May the bargain hunters find what they want and may the rest of us avoid all the hustle and bustle, and find pleasure in the quiet countryside or coast.
