William & Kate Scheduled to Visit USA for....

....the 250th anniversary of America's Independence.

Should they re-think this, in view of Trump's out-of-control behaviour?

The original colonists didn't want a king but, several generations on, that is exactly what America now has in the person of Donald Trump.

If the Prince and Princess of Wales attend the anniversary celebration then Trump will interpret the visit as a ringing endorsement of his invasion of Venezuela surely?

He's unbalanced enough to make political capital out of the Royals, given the chance.

As the visit is not until July, I think they should maintain a diplomatic silence and take a measured judgements at a later date. Given how volatile the current situation is, anything could happen.

Good advice

it is of course The Government who direct where Royals visit, the Royals don't go of their own accord.

William and Kate will go for the people of the US. Trump can take it whatever way he wants but that will be the reason.

Syracute Sun 04-Jan-26 20:02:58

I disagree. He had a very cordial visit with Starmer when he visited. He has also made positive comments since.

Nice idea, but not how it will play out in international relations.

The presence of the Prince and Princess of Wales in the USA will be taken as a direct endorsement by the British government of Trumps extra judicial arrest of President Maduro. It will also make the Prince and Princess persona non grata in a large number of countries, thus undermining he role they can play in furthering British interests

As an American...

It seems odd to me to have a future King at any celebration of overthrowing our last King.

I am sure the intended message is a long the lines of "see, look at us still allies 250 years later".

I just have an image on my head of them embraced uncomfortably by Trump while he waving his arm over the United States and smiling and says "look how well we have done!" And the country is just on fire.

hmm

"The original colonists didn't want a king but, several generations on, that is exactly what America now has in the person of Donald Trump."

Don't be silly. Trump may be unbalanced as you say, but that doesn't make the US republic and constitution unbalanced. There's no way he'd get away with monarchistic nonsense.

And you honestly think he wouldn't at least try to alter the Constitution so that "he'd get away with monarchistic nonsense" not to mention attempting to run for a third term?

Don't be "silly"..........Baggs?

The Royal Family are excellent when it comes to soft power

The current POTUS will not be in power for ever, the visit should go ahead.

Whether we like it or not the USA is a major trading partner and Europe/UK needs to keep the relationship going.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. The British royal family are not political and a good thing, too. They might even be a good example for Trump.

You know he would be the one to try. I would love to see William punch him square in the face.

Day dreams.

Will he hang on to Kate's hand for an inordinately long time again?

It’s good diplomacy to join in celebrations not attending reall would be seen to be hostile to the US, at present that’s a bad idea.
They can call into see Harry while they are there!?

We are not talking about "at present".
The 250th anniversary of American independence is unsurprisingly on July 4th.
They have no need to make a decision at this point.

The issues we have now are going to be the same in July, in fact if Ukraine flares up it might get worse

The Royals have their diaries made up many, many months in advance.

Even I have now got dates in my diary for August 2026 and July 2027…

I think if I were Kate I'd be unwell. I think it depends how Starmer reacts. He needs to condemn acts of illegality and I think he will.

I definitely would be unwell and not attend.

This goes against the grain of any democracy´s Constitution.

Bestgrammaever Mon 05-Jan-26 14:39:06

Don't embolden Trump. Stay home.

RosesandLilac Mon 05-Jan-26 14:43:11

If William and Catherine don’t go I bet Harry will offer to step in!

Essexgirl145 Mon 05-Jan-26 14:54:39

I don't know what to say about this this, but America must be in a very bad way.

Gfplux Mon 05-Jan-26 15:14:41

The visit should not go ahead. Trump has spent any good will he has.

Geordiegirl1 Mon 05-Jan-26 17:42:46

Thé Jape Rae emperor and various monstrous criminals have been entertained by royalty despite public outcry. I can’t see them changing.

eazybee Mon 05-Jan-26 19:42:54

Trump is a vulgarian and if the Prince and Princess of Wales visit the USA he will do everything he can to exploit their visit to his own ends. And no doubt the toady Starmer, still clinging to power, will be there too.

That’s an understatement. Aside from geopolitics, Trump and Republicans have ensured that millions of underprivileged Americans lost healthcare coverage on the first of this month. Their racist hatred of Obama saw them do away with a subsidy that helped cover medical costs for the poor. He has attacked public education, public employment, and healthcare, which have been springboards for minorities and women to advance.

Oreo Mon 05-Jan-26 22:50:03

I have no doubts that the visit will go ahead unless there’s illness on one side.
The Royals are used to being diplomatic and am sure the visit will be a success.
As for visiting Harry, now that really is doubtful!
