What are they actually doing in America to stop Trump?

There is obviously lots of media attention citing how appalling he is and all the vile nonsense he's been up to.
However, I see no effort being made by the American political system or the judiciary to actually stop the illegal and immoral acts he is carrying out and /or remove him from office.
Has any one any insight in to this?

The United States had a checks and balances system that worked for 250 years. When there is an entire party who is committed to destroying a country, not much else will stop it.

Keep Farage and big money out of your elections if you don't want this happening in The UK.

And yet many people seem to regard him and the rabble that surround him, as the saviour of this country. Just goes to show how far a racist agenda can take you. Especially when the media are happy to provide so much coverage.

I think hammering home when Trump makes a complete idiot of himself - Acting like he's only just heard about Chagos Islands & it's something we've just spontaneously done, when Marco Rubio approved the deal 3 months ago
Telling people to swallow disinfectant because it kills Covid on worksurfaces
& most laughably telling Denmark their country had decided not to give him the Peace prize when the Nobel committee is based in Norway & Denmark's government has as little to do with it as Hawaii
Hammer home what a moron he is - no amount of fake news can negate the silliness of these statements, which he's never disowned - maybe people will be less keen on having a "Trump" of our own.

Lahlah65- This ba###rd acts in no-one's interest but his own.

@imaround I wonder what you expect us to do? Honestly

Your situation seems so incomprehensible to us, because in our system (UK) if a Prime Minister goes rogue they are toast. We have ways to get shot of them fast at any stage of the current term . Their own party will turn on them (for making that party unelectable ) .

Americans often think we are "subjects" totally subservient to Monarchy.but that's not true either. If a Prince or even King goes feral , becomes an embarrassment, he goes too.

We just can't imagine a free western country where any single person is so completely unassailable as Trump appears to be.

"If a Prime Minister goes rogue they are toast." You have got to be joking! Starmer is a lier, a traitor, a Marxist and he is destroying our country. He has a massive majority based on only 20% of the electorate and is causing tremendous damage with every passing day. Examples? The Chagos Islands and the new Chinese Super-Embassy to name just two. He is the most unpopular PM the country has ever had, according to any poll you care to look at. Regarding freedom of speech, the UK now TOPS the World list of people arrested for social media posts, above even China and Russia. I don't see his party turning on him, do you?

Elegran Tue 20-Jan-26 14:34:33

Perhaps his party sees what he has done and what he is capable of doing, better than a member of the public does? If he went they would have to find someone to take his place.

If they were not satisfied they could replace him as leader of the party. Then his position would be constitutionally untenable.

It seems that in the US their president must be impeached and then put on trial in the Senate to get rid of him.

Nannapat1 Tue 20-Jan-26 14:43:45

I agree with butterandjam. I would add that we vote for a party (although our vote might be influenced who is currently leader) rather than a single person who becomes president. The Americans voted...and got DT.

There have been many and various attempts to rein Trump in in and there are many ongoing legal cases, but all these actions are being taken mainly at state level.

The main problem is that the president's authority is almost paramount and when you get some one like Trump to prepared to run roughshod and dismiss anyone who dares question him, it gets difficult. if a Trump opponent is dismissed - and many have been, he is replaced by a Trump stooge.

Trump is surrounded by as nasty a group of ,mainly, men on the make, who would render their own children down for lard if it was to their advantage, all of them contunually acting outside the law.

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that the only difference between the USA and other unpleasant countries like North Korea, Iran, China or Russia is that, as yet, except for the occasional protestor, there have been no widepsread extra-judicial murdering of his opponents.

Exactly right … read also the following re the NYT recent article on his corruption! Which everyone sees but seems to ignore. With a Corrupt Supreme Court what can be done except an uprising?

I don't know what Ambergran has heard on Facebook but Trump does NOT have to have Greenland for security reasons. There has been a US military base there for years and the numbers of soldiers based there has reduced from 1000 to 150. There is also an existing agreement that the base can be extended at any time. What does that say about the US concerns for security? They can expand their presence there without having to "own" Greenland. The truth is, Trump wants Greenland for the rare earth minerals is has. Just like he wants the rare earth minerals in Ukraine. He is a greedy, selfish man who only thinks about making money out of people.

The Heritage Foundation has been putting in Judiciary in since Reagan. 4 of the SC justices are Heritage Foundation picks, which is why we have a SC that currently has a shadow docket to rubber stamp all the illegal and unconstitutional crap Heritage wants done.

Want to see the playbook? Project 2025. It is all there, written out.

I just saw a French video of a judge saying that Trump sent goons to intimidate her during the Le Pen trial.

He is coming to your shores, even if he never steps foot in the country. I hope when it comes time for you to all vote, you think of my story for the last year, hold your nose and vote for anyone else but Reform.

Kitty55 Tue 20-Jan-26 16:07:32

It’s disgraceful that politicians are able to turn on their own people. We have them doing it here too. Hopefully some day someone will be able to bring a law forward to stop them. Everyone talks but nothing is done.

Kitty55 Tue 20-Jan-26 16:10:36

Well put. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Terric Tue 20-Jan-26 16:11:02

The Democrats in the House are trying everything they can to stop him but they are in the minority and often get overruled by the Republicans in the House and Senate. It is a mess as Trump is sue happy and every time a challenge comes up he files a lawsuit or appeals when he loses. He is a never ending nightmare for the court system. He thinks he is never wrong about anything and he coerces people to support him by offering them jobs and get out of jail free cards when they donate to his campaign. He is the biggest bully and cares not for anyone but himself. He has no social graces and behaves like a stupid child. His cabinet meetings are filled with his sycophants standing by his side even though they know he is lying and stealing from the people. He just wants to go down in history as one of the greatest presidents of all times. He is so unqualified for the position he holds. He was “elected” to office because he had rich business friends that he gave permission to rake in as much money from the public and not worry about taxes or accountability as he would make sure they were pardoned. From where I sit as an American, we are living a nightmare while he has any control. Because of our very difficult laws, he continues to be protected as president, by the Supreme Court, who, by the way, he put into their positions. We are living in the upside down world Trump flourishes in. Chaos and threats to his enemies. Total dictator approach. He is not a skilled or highly intelligent person and he tries to bluff his way out of his duties by making sure he has his “yes men” surround him at all times. He is the most expensive, worthless, person that our tax dollars are required to support. He hires TV personalities as his officers. Marco Rubio ran against him for presidency and stated what a crook Trump was….now, since he was given a sweet total and position in Trump’s cabinet, he defends him. They all, especially Trump, have no morals or decency. People are not afraid to challenge him. They are, however, afraid that they will be sued, lose their jobs and possibly killed for anything that they publicly say or do against him. He is powerful only because people do not want his extreme wrath against them where he intentionally targets their entire lives and families and children with threats against their lives, careers and livelihoods. So, in answer to your question, we are really trying to get him out of office asap.

DollyD Tue 20-Jan-26 16:26:22

They can’t stop him because the majority of Americans voted for him, it’s Democracy….

imaround Tue 20-Jan-26 16:35:46

29% of eligible voters picked him. There has never been a majority that picked him.

More people voted for other people (Kamala, Stein) in total than voted for DJT in 2024.

He may have been Democratically elected, but he hasn't acted Democratically. And his voters are turning on him as well due to his choices.

We just need an election to get him out. He is trying his hardest to incite us to riot so he can cancel midterms. He knows he is in trouble at the polls.

Maremia Tue 20-Jan-26 16:43:13

Vivaldi, yes, to your post.

Maremia Tue 20-Jan-26 16:45:21

Yes, imaround, if the opposition can vote tactically against Trump, you will get him out, just as the UK ousted the Tories in our last election.

Maremia Tue 20-Jan-26 16:46:25

And yes also, to Terric.

Lesley60 Tue 20-Jan-26 17:00:01

With everything he was guilty of before getting in a second term, I don’t understand why Americans voted him in, they could see the type of person he is.
And that ICE idea is an awful lot like Hitlers Nazi Germany grabbing people off the streets, America beware you know how that went.

watermeadow Tue 20-Jan-26 17:03:49

Vast numbers in that vast country voted in a dangerous egomaniac because he was that wonderful desirable thing, a CELEBRITY!
They’d have Micky Mouse for president, given the chance.

mokryna Tue 20-Jan-26 17:13:05

If Trump was displaced one way or another, he would be replaced vice president Vance.
Would he be any better for Europe?

NLnanna Tue 20-Jan-26 17:14:55

I think that there are too many people lining their pockets in this administration. Trump, his family and the hangers-on. The Americans of today should be careful what they wish for. Can't wait for Karma to strike.

Hear hear… so right! A Malignant Narcissist and corrupt through and through. I can never understand how people can vote for him? They seem to think he’s like them, outspoken, honest, transparent and ! Christian !!! His type of Christianity includes Adultery numerous times, convictions for Fraud and sexual abuse, grifting merch to his guillable voters, a Fraudulent ‘University’, he’gone bankrupt 6 times always stiffing his debtors, happy to grab any woman “ by The pussy” and not forgetting his intense efforts ( even after signing a go ahead law) to stop the Epstein files release….his personal wealth has doubled or tripled just in the last year, plane from Quatar, etc etc. He lies like he breathes and tells his voters they are so well off now and they lap it up!! That’s a Christian President for you… I could go on, but just that sickens me, let alone bombing people, and trying to grab Greenland. No sympathy or action for Ukraine, sides with Putin and every ‘bad’ dictator! He’s only gone after Maduro cos he wants Venezuelan oil, he’s already sold one tankers worth and popped the monies in a bank in .Quatar… SOMEONE DO SOMETHING !

Maremia Tue 20-Jan-26 17:58:00

Saw on Facebook, but it will need checking out, that three Catholic Bishops have just spoken out against, not specifically Trump, but the way people are being treated, as being unchristian.

Desdemona Tue 20-Jan-26 18:09:23

It's a bit like whack-a-mole. You bash down one bad idea of Trump's, and another pops up.
It is great that the citizens are climbing above the deliberate shock tactics, and are beginning to gain some 'wins'.

Trump has had lots of bad ideas but I think trying to force a Country to be bought against their will has to be top of the list?

I suppose ICE going around murdering people might TRUMP that though.

hallgreenmiss Tue 20-Jan-26 19:11:32

Is anyone watching his insane ramblings at his press ‘conference’? What a travesty!
