JamesandJon33 -
It's so annoying because I'm tired during the day having not slept properly.
I've cut out normal tea and chocolate.
I also noticed that wine made it worse .
Now I'm having milk ,honey and turmeric.
I haven't tried yoga - maybe it will help .
And probably not !

Bob Ross is on Sky Arts @ 8 each morning. His voice always used to send me to sleep when he was on BBC so I listened to it this morning and, as usual I was asleep fifteen minutes into the programme.

HelterSkelter1 Wed 04-Feb-26 01:47:20

Oh dear. Wideawake at 1.20 after a good night on Monday night. No reason. Not cold, not hungry/thirsty, no bad dreams and I don't even need the loo. Just woke up and wide awake.

I shall read and hope to fall asleep again.

harrigran Wed 04-Feb-26 03:15:53

Woken at 3am with stomach pains, no chance of going back to sleep until it eases.

Allsorts Wed 04-Feb-26 04:18:19

Wide awake after 2 hours sleep, think I will have to get sleeping tablets as this must be wrecking havoc on my body. I go off to sleep quickly but at most, three hours later wide awake.

JamesandJon33 Wed 04-Feb-26 04:51:13

Not too bad a night. I fell asleep watching Astrid on Tv last evening so struggled off to bed and was asleep again by 9. Woke at 3:39. So I’ve read for a while. I’m going to a book reading this evening. I hope it’s engaging . I would hate to embarrass myself by nodding off.

grandMattie Wed 04-Feb-26 04:56:42

I’m really sorry, harri, hope the pain goes away.

Allsorts, I have found that 1/2 an antihistamine tablet gives me a good nights’ sleep. Give it a try before going into the heavy stuff.

I had an ok night, though I did wake up for a bit several times.

Hope most of you are still having 💤 and have a good day.

HelterSkelter I m 81 and do three days a week voluntary work in a charity shop The work I do is very physical including carting big boxes and bags around I believe it not only keeps me sane, talking to staff and customers, helping people gives me a real sense of achievement.
My hours are my choice but I work from 8 am till usually about 3 pm sometimes longer eat a snack on the trot and I enjoy every minute of it I live alone and get bored stiff with talking to myself and watching rotten tv. 🤣

cornergran Thu 05-Feb-26 03:25:59

Here I am again. I know this time what’s caused my wakefulness. I believed a waiter when he assured me my very good after an excellent lunch coffee was decaffeinated. It seems it wasn’t! My own fault, I sort of knew but was enjoying my drink 🫩

From experience I’ll nod off in an hour or so. I’ve finished the novel I was enjoying, sent a couple of enquiries for a furniture repair, caught up with an email and now I think a bathroom visit and a no caffeine hot drink. With luck I’ll get 3 hours sleep. That will be fine. Nothing demanding on the agenda.

Hope you’re all sleeping soundly. 🤞.

rafichagran Thu 05-Feb-26 04:11:20

I am up too. My mind is very active. I sometimes have nights when I don't sleep at all.
I know I am not doing myself any good being on the phone, but at the moment I just feel miserable it will pass, and I will be up as usual tommorow.

grandMattie Thu 05-Feb-26 04:38:21

I’m awake for the day, now.
Had a rather disturbed night, waking hourly, and full of bizarre dreams. Unusually, I dreamt a lot about my late DH. I can’t remember dreaming about him, alive or dead, before.
Not especially busy day ahead, so might allow myself a nap this afternoon.

JamesandJon33 Thu 05-Feb-26 04:54:48

I’ve been awake about an hour. Played Solitaire and read for a while. Off out early this morning so best not to try to sleep now. My mind too has gone into overdrive. A bit more reading I think then a cup of tea, a shower and hello day.
Have a peaceful one everybody.

Esmay Thu 05-Feb-26 07:00:02

I went on a longer walk than before and came back and started to lose my voice on the phone. My friend chatted on and it was increasingly hard to answer her.
Fell fast asleep and woke up to watch Triple Cross.in the early hours .
I thought that a hot milky drink would send me off to sleep but it just sends me to the loo though not as urgently as tea and hot chocolate .

Thank you BlueBelle. Gransnet covers such a wide age range from 60s to 90s.

I am sure working keeps you young in mind and body and the company and chat is a bonus.

Woke at 6.00 am. A really good night's sleep. No idea why. Maybe just my body catching up.

I have new, small bedside clock so I can clearly see the time. It takes up very little space unlike my old one it replaced which was my mother's. That one was an odd shape, got in the way and often tipped over.

I hope everyone is fast asleep still.

BlueBelle Fri 06-Feb-26 06:47:37

Goodness gracious, what on earth has happened to me today? I went to sleep at midnight and I’ve just woken up 6:45 unheard of.
Meeting a friend for lunch and coffee midday so I’m looking forward to that. I’ve looked at the window just now as I went to the toilet and it looks it’s usual cold wet windy oh my goodness I’ll be so glad when spring comes but then I keep telling myself off for wishing my life away Finished my work for the week so after today no idea what I’ll do, normally it would be on the Allotment but certainly nothing going at the moment. It’s far too wet, muddy and cold. I hope everyone has a lovely day doing something although I’m well aware not every day is lovely for all of us.

MayBee70 Fri 06-Feb-26 21:40:31

Just read that Jude are now making a nighttime supplement that helps you get through the night without having to get up for a wee. But when I checked out the ingredients one was l theanine and that is something found in tea and it said that it contains caffeine. So how can that help someone sleep through the night? I was quite hopeful when I read it…

JamesandJon33 Sat 07-Feb-26 03:56:42

Morning all. Just finished two games of Solitaire and will read for a while. I have a book club book to finish. Might as well start now.
I’ e given up worrying about this nighttime lark…I shall just enjoy the quiet.
Have a good day all. It will be silent here this afternoon as Wales, I believe are paying England. God help us 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

grandMattie Sat 07-Feb-26 05:54:53

Good morning. Me too, I’ve just woken up, a straight 7 hours!
I have given up worrying about my sleep, most nights are short, often fractured. It really annoys me as there is no rhyme nor reason for this.
On the other hand, I’m always most grateful for a good night…
Hope the rest of you are rested at least.

SORES Sat 07-Feb-26 05:59:21

Ovaltine - ‘the food drink of the night’ works for me,
drunk about an hour before I go to bed.
Does anyone remember when it was granules? as it is
now powder.
I woke an hour ago for the obligatory wee and drink of water, really hungry.
Two Weetabix and two small bananas later I feel I could now
happily return to Nod for an hour.

BlueBelle Sat 07-Feb-26 06:20:04

Had my normal 5 hours very content with that
Sounds quiet outside
jamesandjon that’s how I ve beaten it I completely accept what sleep I have and don’t worry in the least what I don’t have Works for me once I accepted it, all became well
Have a good day everyone nothing on the books for me just some fed shopping Norma day

Esmay Sat 07-Feb-26 06:21:35

I felt cold and had cramps as I'd kicked the blankets off so I was awake at about five .
Maybe it wasn't a bad night.

Aveline Sat 07-Feb-26 09:55:02

I agree BlueBelle. Acceptance is the answer. Certainly works for me. I can put up with a disturbed night in the knowledge that a) I'm just normal and b) if necessary I can have a wee sleep this afternoon.

Esmay Sat 07-Feb-26 13:40:50

I agree - I think that you just have to accept insomnia.
As long as I don't have nightmares-I can take it .

RosesandLilac Sun 08-Feb-26 04:55:36

‘Morning! 🙄
I have actually had quite a good sleep but then I did take magnesium tablets and spray, Nytol and analgesics in desperation of getting on top of the pain in my legs. It isn’t cramp, it’s in my shins and ankles.
I got very cold yesterday afternoon standing around outside for the playground development meeting which didn’t help. Despite a leaflet drop to every house on the estate only one person bothered to turn up 🤬
It was cold, wet and windy which didn’t help but it was very disappointing.
About to make a coffee then read my book. Good to see no one else here!
