Good Morning Everyone,
A dark wet morning here in Brackley this morning.
The usual routine after breakfast and a bit of TV ,catch the bus to bus to Bicester and do a shop and chat to those I know.
Little bit disappointed with Royal Mail as to letters they may as well be on strike with what they have not done .
Health OK,
Take Care,
Mick

Morning all from a dry and dark north Wales - nothing good about it as my cousin rang yesterday to say his mum died so I join the bereaved group today - so many this week 💔

I’d popped to the hospital on Wednesday and she looked so frail and told me she was tired of struggling and to give her love to my Dad, her little brother …

💐 and hugs to everyone for the weekend and hope for some good news from all who have some holidays, happenings and happiness - bring it on🤗

harrigran Fri 27-Feb-26 05:38:46

Good morning from a dry and not too chilly NE.
Yesterday's shopping trip was successful, everything I wanted to last me until next week plus picked up a couple of tops for the summer.
Nothing happening today so will catch up with some TV and reading.
Sorry for your loss Pantglas 💐

grandMattie Fri 27-Feb-26 05:46:25

Good morning from a now dry Bristol; it has rained all afternoon and night.
My poor pant, I’m so sad for you; as you say, so many bereavements at the moment.
A photo of my pots outside my front door.
Yesterday was uneventful as usual. My life is so pedestrian. Dinner at DD’s was odd as per normal. They are vegetarian, but as a carnivore, I eat far, far more of a variety of vegetables per meal.
Today, Spanish, then a haircut here with one of my neighbours joining and finally, I’m going to a Lent group in church. A two hour affair. I wonder what it’ll be like.
Hugs to the mountaineers,💐 I don’t want to name anyone other than fgt for fear of missing someone.

Good morning from South Lanarkshire. Not sure what the weather is doing yet.

My condolences Pantglas.

Thanks for all the good wishes for DH yesterday. His knee replacement surgery went well and he was in good spirits last night although he hadn’t yet been out of bed. I’m hoping that he will be discharged later today if the physio is happy with his mobility.

Yesterday I cleaned to keep me busy so today I think I will try to relax and do some crochet while listening to my audiobook.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

baubles Fri 27-Feb-26 05:56:37

NannyJan I hope your DH’s op went well.

mum2three Fri 27-Feb-26 05:57:54

Good morning from Lancashire. Quiet and calm at the moment, but more rain is on the way. One of my gerbils is on the loose. It's here somewhere, I just have to find it. At least, it will be hungry so I should be able to tempt it with some food.

brook2704 Fri 27-Feb-26 06:06:03

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s still dark and looks still and quiet outside. Yesterday was sunny but again with a very strong cold wind
Sad news Pantglas, so very sorry for your loss
I’m awake early as we’re off to DD1s in Cambridge today, we’re celebrating youngest DGSs 9th birthday this weekend. We’re on a flight to Luton and then onward travel by bus and train.
Pleased all went well Baubles hope your Dh gets home this afternoon and recovers well. Hoping all went well for MrJ too
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

NannyJan53 Fri 27-Feb-26 06:24:15

Good morning from a dry but damp Black Country, as it rained from yesterday afternoon.

Thank you for the the good wishes regarding MrJ's Op. I had the call to bring him home around 1.30pm as it was only Day Surgery. Has a big dressing on his scalp, and he is to keep upright for 2 days, and do absolutely nothing for a week! They took skin off his arm to put on his scalp, so a dressing there too.

So please your DH's Op went well too Baubles. Here's hoping he is discharged soon.

Was hoping to go on a u3a walk this morning, but think I had better stick around the house for today.

Sincere condolences Pantglas flowers

Wishing you all the best day possible. Thinking of FGT and anyone with worries or health struggles at the moment.

GillyMo Fri 27-Feb-26 06:27:26

Good morning from Kent where it is ten degrees. Looks like it's going to rain later.

There was a gap in the rain yesterday so I pulled out loads of ground-covering chickweed from the flower border. The work has helped to relieve the stiffness in my back.

Today I'm off to do a bit of volunteering at the heritage railway. There's always much to be done keeping the area neat and tidy.

grandMattie I'm like you in that I eat meat and also love my vegetables. Yesterday I had a mix of broccoli, swede, parsnip, leek, cauliflower and potatoes. I batch cook it so that there's enough for the following day and in case anyone shows up unexpectedly wanting something to eat.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Bellasnana Fri 27-Feb-26 06:27:33

Good morning from Malta where it is to be sunny and 20°C.

What a lot of early risers this morning, and you are an hour earlier than lazy me who has just woken up.

Condolences on the loss of your aunt, Pantglas, May she rest in peace.

grandMatttie you do so much with your life, even when you aren’t out being useful and helping others you are baking and making lovely quilts., and studying another language.

Glad to hear Mr Baubles had his surgery and may well be home later.

Safe travels brook and happy birthday to your DGS.🥳

I had a nice morning catching up with my friend over coffee. We walked around the village afterwards as it was such lovely weather it seemed wrong to be indoors.

Another sunny day today. I’ve got my hair at some point but forgot to write down at what time so will have to find out,

No particular plans. I do feel I waste my life but I’m happiest when at home just pottering about with no pressure to be doing anything I don’t want to do.

Hopefully the boys might visit, that would make my day.

Hoping you have a good day.☀️

karmalady Fri 27-Feb-26 06:27:49

Good morning from s somerset with thankfully, sun today

Pantglas I am so sorry, the joy of life has left you for a while, I sense it. Take good care of yourself, do some nice things so you don`t crumble and accept a hug from me, for the lovely person that you are. Sit tight, it will get better

I came to a decision wrt my boiler, I am not throwing more money at repairs and I am going to get a like for like replacement with the 8 year guarantee. That time span is relatively long at my age and I will be getting a quote today. I won`t have a definitely accessible road for another month so will sadly have to arrange replacement for april. No heat, no hot water but I am old school and will manage

I had an urge to ride my bike yesterday but being an oldie, I need a few more degrees so I did a little bit of sorting in my garage instead after a walk. I keep a good bit of my food storage in there and am seeing space at last. The road works have been helpful to me, my storage is going down

Today, an appointment with my heat engineer, a walk and a look at finances with a shuffle here and there

Ashcombe Fri 27-Feb-26 06:54:57

Good morning from a wet and breezy Torbay where it has rained for most of the night.

Condolences to you, Pantglas2; what a good thing you had recently visited your aunt. 💐

Safe travels to you, brook2704; my first teaching post was in Luton, enabling me to be provided with a council flat in a tower block overlooking the M1! Both my school and the flats have since been demolished!

My cleaner is due today so I hope the rain stops so I can go into town. “This place ain’t big enough for the two of us!”

Good luck with bringing the patient home, baubles.

Have a good day, if you can!

Good morning from Wiltshire. It was grey, windy and wet yesterday but not as disappointing as the previous day when we were promised a lovely sunny day. Well, we had an hour of hazy sun but by 1pm it had clouded over. We went for a walk still wearing our winter coats. My hip ached a great deal afterwards. Meanwhile 1.5 hours to the east DD1 was sitting in her warm and very sunny garden. 🫤

We went to the new Lidl nearby and bought a huge artists kit for DGD3 to keep for her birthday which we will keep till August.

I’m sorry to hear about your cousin’s mum Pantglas. Thank you for the photos from Costa Rica Eqwa what an adventure! I hope your knee is ok now after your playground encounter with DGS2’s foot. I’m so sorry your DinL has had another setback MD. What awful stress you are all under.

Wishing you all the best day you can.

EkwaNimitee Fri 27-Feb-26 07:04:27

Good morning Mick and everyone from Carlisle where we have yet another grey day.
Booked another holiday in the sun....

Yesterday's eye appointment went ok, my difficulties with reading small print are simply due to getting even more longsighted. I spent ages choosing new frames and ended up with a similar style as usual. The large resulting bill was sweetened by paying in a cheque from the train company...I can't remember when I last paid full whack for a rail trip!
Not usually the train company's fault though.

Today, some bathroom cleaning and hopefully some gardening and/or a walk.

My condolences for the loss of your aunt Pantglas

Morning all from West Oxfordshire.

Book group was fun yesterday. Next month’s theme is books set in Japan. Our daughter lived in Japan for a year and I’m sure there are books in the house set in Japan.

I have to get up soon. OH and I are off to an Arts Society lecture. The parking at the venue is difficult so we will go early and find somewhere for breakfast.

Have a good day.

Good morning all and it’s dark and damp here in Essex.

DGD has a school trip to Duxford today and it will be an indoor visit which is a shame. She’s very excited .

I’ll take her home after school, or maybe tomorrow morning.
I’ll see what she says.

Our friends are picking us up today for our Friday gathering which is so kind of them . I always say ‘we can get a cab’ but they are persistent. It isn’t on the way and they have to detour.

Condolences Pants
Glad the ops went well Baubles and NannyJ.
GrandMattie how can you say your life is ‘pedestrian’. ? You’re such a busy bee , 🐝, always making, baking, and helping others where needs be, and meeting people.

Take care all and keep dry.🌱

Greyduster Fri 27-Feb-26 07:24:28

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a rather dreich South Yorkshire. Yesterday was pretty much the same. There was a short window for a walk in the morning and then rain all afternoon. I had lunch with DD and we spent a long time at her kitchen window watching a squirrel going to ridiculous lengths to get food from one of the arrangement of feeders she has. It was hilarious. At one point we thought he might be stuck, he was on there so long, but no, he was just greedy!

My hairdresser kept me waiting for an hour in the afternoon because she was running late, which made me rather cross.

I have a GP appointment this morning to discuss some X-ray results, and then a couple of hours at school this afternoon.

I’m sorry for your loss, Pant.

Have the best day you can, folks.

monk08 Fri 27-Feb-26 07:28:38

Good morning all from a wet Black country, rain continuously since yesterday afternoon.
No plans for today as yet but will soon find something to do.
Good to hear the ops went ok yesterday.
Condolences for your loss Pantglas.
Tablet needs a charge so will catch up with everybody's happenings later.
Safe travels those on the move and virtual hugs where needed.☀️

Redcar Fri 27-Feb-26 07:31:14

Good morning everyone from mid Essex, where it’s mild, cloudy and damp. Rain forecast for most of the day.
I had a quiet day with DD1’s dog yesterday, my son in law was home at 3.30 but continued working from home until 5.30 when he & the DGDs drove me home. DD1 was at a work function so I didn’t see her.
madeleine I’m pleased you’re back after your little break.

pantglas I’m sorry for your loss, sending condolences to you and your family,

baubles I hope that your DH had a good night and will be home later today.

nannyjan I’m pleased your DH’s procedure went well yesterday and hope that his head and arm aren’t too sore today.

brook I hope you have a trouble free journey to Cambridge today and an enjoyable weekend with family.

I’m out for lunch with some friends today - we had intended to go out together before Christmas but couldn’t book in time!

Thinking of all those struggling with illness or anxiety.

I hope Friday is kind to us all.

ginny Fri 27-Feb-26 07:31:46

Good morning, I’ve not looked at the weather yet.
A few jobs to attend to this morning and then I have a noon appointment at the eye hospital. I’m secretly hoping that DH golf course isn’t allowing trolleys so he can take me and I won’t have to worry about parking. I’ll manage if not.
Afterwards I’ll go on to Ikea for some picture frames needed for craft club and a couple of other items.
Like others I hesitate to name people but my thoughts are with all who are sad, ill or troubled in any way.
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.

Georgesgran Fri 27-Feb-26 07:34:41

Good morning from Durham. It’s a dry start here again, but it doesn’t last. New washing machine delivered, installed and used several times, but it’s going to take some getting used to - same make as it’s predecessor, but very different.
Lots of little jobs today and I hope to meet DD2 later, before she goes for her dental appointment.
Glad the operations went well and the ‘walking wounded’ are recovering.
So sorry for your loss Pantglas I find this a difficult time of year.
Thinking of FGT Marydoll and so many others facing their personal trials.

Best wishes to all. X

madeleine45 Fri 27-Feb-26 07:40:55

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still dry morning in North Yorkshire. I can see the outline of the tree against the sky and already hear a crow cawing but cant see it. So I am back to join you all and see what has been happening . Have had a couple of days of all sorts of feelings from joy to frustration.

After all the awful weather we have been having and endless jobs that I was really struggling to do, with my back and knees adding to the frustration of not being able to even plant a small plant, I had had a phone call from a friend , who also said that the weather had improved etc. So one of the few joys of living alone is that you can change your plans at the drop of a hat and are causing no problems for anyone else.

So I went on tuesday to a meeting at Upfront for the techie genius that is Artie,to sort out a couple of problems on the laptop and to ask his advice on how to clear the wretched AI nuiscance that keeps coming up unasked etc. So sorted a few things, not good news on how to get rid of AI and also am rather fed up to learn that probably my laptop wont be able to cope with latest stuff and windows 10 is going to be no good so that I shall be pushed into forking out for a new laptop. Anyway that is for a later discussion and so I hurriedly packed up and shoved things in the car to stay overnight and shot off to enjoy a peaceful drive to my friends.

Lovely to see them, much catching up etc and then I went to have a look on my laptop for something only to find that I had not got my lead. Searched the car with not much hope but no. I had left if behind in my rush. Rather annoyed with myself and then only had my phone. I was able to read some emails etc on it, but as a fast touch typist, it absolutely drives me wild trying to use it, to send messages on. I make mistakes touching the wrong letters and it is maddening constantly trying to tell me words that I do not want and interfering with my flow. So that was a bit of a pain and I missed keeping up with all the news and views.

On the wednesday I was going to come home to carry on with the various abandoned jobs, but oh it was lovely and dry, and despite quite a keen wind a real feeling of change in the weather, but the forecast said good for the day but then back to cold and rain so naturally I threw away all good intentions and had a much better idea.

I drove across on quiet roads and being wednesday and the half term over in that area , had the roads to myself and a wonderful wander across to Kirby Stephen, where I was able to have a coffee and a little walk around, before taking the road to happiness to my beloved Swaledale. It was a struggle to walk about but who cares. Mentally I was full of joy and so happy to get back to swaledale, my first time this year. I have missed it so much between bad weather and being ill etc.

What a wonderful time I had. I always have my binoculars with me , and was so lucky on this trip. There are no leaves on the trees yet, which allowed me to see wonderful drifts of snowdrops through little woods and hedges. They were everywhere and all looking marvellous, this awful weather has been fine for them and they were a feast for the eyes.

As I wandered along stopping for great views I also had some fantastic sightings too. There was an oystercatcher just stood on a stone wall and I watched it take off, and I also saw lapwings, and my favourite bird to hear up there , a curlew, and then glossy pheasants and there was the sound of many other birds as they all are telling us that spring is here .

I saw a flock of Soay small black sheep with 5 black lambs, then a flock of white sheep with more early lambs, and finally some jacobs but no lambs. Always have some secateurs with me and there was a tree full of hazel catkins so I cut two small sprigs to bring home to tell me that even if the weather gets worse again we are on our way.

So rather like dogs going round their patch if they have been away and checking everything is as it should be, I wandered along by the side of the river Swale, seeing much of the flooded fields improving but still with some standing water , and noting fallen branches etc. It was a wonderful day, really uplifting to the spirit.

The mundane had to be included too and so called at the larger Tesco at catterick to get some bits and pieces, and they have a much larger choice than my local one. I used to live in Richmond and used that store regularly and when I went for the disabled buggy a lovely lady who works there came rushing over and said how pleased she was to see me etc etc. So had a wander around and bought a few bits and then went to go home, but had stayed there longer than expected and so got stuck in the evening rush hour. So much so that I thought if I went home first I would be late for the whist drive. So I rather decadently bought some chow mein and of course always have my picnic stuff in the car and so sat in a layby with water and chinese watching the traffic go by and then went straight to the whist drive. Had a pleasant evening and even won a raffle prize. So arrived home at 10.30pm somewhat shattered by what a great day.

I was of course paying for it yesterday and it has taken me all day to even begin to catch up but I did at least manage to go back and find my lead so here I am back to the everyday. In quite a bit of pain and slow today, but never mind. Whatever the weather brings now I have this jewel of a day to be my treasure to look at on dark days, and believe I will get back there again soon.

Mick hope you have a good bus trip. As regards to the Royal Mail if they were a local firm they would be being done for fraud. They put the price of stamps up, say that 1st class delivery will be in one or two days and then put the parcel stuff first and do not do what they promise. We have had quite a few people here who have missed important hospital appointments as they did not get the letters in time , and disappointed children and friends who think you have forgotten their birthday, when you posted cards in good time and they get them weeks later. Pantglas so sorry for your loss, and send you hugs and hope that there will be some small flower or bird that might give you a moments solace today.
GrandMattie hope your meeting today goes well. Baubles glad your husbands op went ok. I still have to catch up with the news for the last couple of days. Karmalady hope all goes well with your boiler change over.

Well the sky is lightening and grey but no sign of rain, and I need to make a start. Have had to take a painkiller this morning, which doesnt seem to be helping much. Never mind, I shall just plod along. Still no sign of my glasses so I have reluctantly decided I must go to specsavers and buy another pair, but at least they have the prescription and I wont need another eye test. After I have forked out for another pair no doubt the old pair will turn up, but if it does I shall put them by my bed so that I will have a pair there whenever I need them, as am quite good at having to get back out of bed when I reach for my glasses and find I have left them in the kitchen or whatever. Wishing you all a dry and decent day with hopefully a new flower or two coming up in your gardens to cheer the day.

cornergran Fri 27-Feb-26 07:45:17

Morning Mick, morning All. Grey cloud, so low the sky feels as if it’s sitting on my head, rain forecast.

A good catchup with my friend yesterday, the garden centre location encouraged me to bring back two bowls of spring plants to add to the display in our front garden. So cheerful.

An at home day for us. Our neighbours will call at some point, I’ve life admin to tackle and maybe some ironing, Mr C has begun a model which will keep him occupied. If there’s a break in the rain I’ll go and check on our little river.

Excellent news came late last night. Our university student granddaughter has returned for tomorrow’s celebration meal and will be there with her lovely boyfriend. I’m so pleased. It’s a two motorway trip for us but more than worth it.

I’m so sorry pantglas, sad news from you, please look after yourself.

I’m pleased both operations went well, suspect both mr baubles and mr j will be sore today.

Best wishes to everyone and a hope Friday is kind to us all.

Grandmabatty Fri 27-Feb-26 07:48:54

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 7° and dry. Pantglas I'm sorry to hear about your aunt. Brook safe journey. baubles and NannyJan, I'm glad both dhs had satisfactory outcomes.
Yesterday morning was spent tidying up from the previous lazy day. Then in the afternoon I went to my art class where I met a couple of friends with delight as well as the art tutor. Since the film about her life and work was aired, she's had a lot of interest in her work and I wondered if she would stop the classes. I'm glad this one is running but I expect it will be the last. I had a lovely 2 hours drawing a poinsettia in preparation for the painting I will do. It was slightly marred by the woman sitting next to me who hummed incessantly for the 2 hours! I'll have to sit somewhere else next week.
Today I'll go to the school library for a tidy. Then home for a tesco delivery at 11. Dd is calling in with jambalaya for my dinner at some point. (and probably bringing me washing to dry). I might do more of the drawing too. Have a good day all.
