Anyone?
We had a nice little thread going, no rushing, just sharing, discussing, and encouraging each other. .
I've fallen out the loop, but still have a long way to go.

What do I do with a box full of old toiletries; samples, stuff from hotel rooms that I intended to use when I got home etc. All old but still probably usable. Hate the thought of it going into landfill.

Decamp them all into one bigger bottle. 🥴

People would bite your hand off if they were on old wooden cotton reels

Really?

Some are on cardboard but some are on wooden cotton reels.

My sister gave me a present of a tall reel from a cotton mill made into an egg timer. It must be about 10 inches tall with brass screw fittings on the top and bottom.

It is a thing of beauty and I use it often.

Doing well lately, on the decluttering front.
Getting the last bedroom ready to be redecorated. Yay!
In reality, the stuff wont all be sorted out before the redecoration.
But every little helps!
And in fairness, some is getting done.

Tomorrow I’m going to swap my little sitting room curtains for a different pair. (Clocks changing, winter coming).

When I go in the loft to get them, I intend to bring down a set of single bedding. I tried selling them at my last car boot, but no takers. I’m going to put them on a local free site.

Think there is more chance of finding a new home than a charity shop.

So have made a start again how did I collect all this stuff.
One thing I find helps is saying " have I used this in the last year?.
If not it goes. Also looking at expiry dates. Often really old stuff .
And often have bought new things and not thrown the old stuff away.
I can hear my mother saying " well it will do a turn, dear."

I didn`t need to look hard today, I have two hand made knitted jumpers, both unworn, I think I will give them to salvation army next week

No takers yet for my bedding, even though it’s free.

Hard to take a flattering photo of it, as I no longer have a single bed to display it on.

That went last year on the free site. 👍🏻

I bought a little new bedding recently.
Surprised how cheap it was.

Though normally, everyone likes something for free.

I intended to donate some scented candles as I have enough to start a shop but it occured to me I might need them as part of my prepping!

It might be cold and miserable, but your house will smell lovely 😀

Now that I'm not moving house imminently, I am bringing back things into use! Candles are suddenly important. Cadenza
I'm glad I didn't part with the log baskets either. Even the spare double bed. I may have a total rethink depending on what sort of place I find.

The man from Shelter came today and another van full of books and bric a brac left with him.

Not the maps though. Not yet.

Now the final bedroom to be decluttered is getting decorated, next step is probably looking at things that we could sell.
Not sure if there is much, or nothing.

Dont know if that is premature.
If I live to a ripe old age...
Dont know. Just musing really at this point in time.

Grammaretto Thu 29-Oct-26 14:18:25

Decorating is certainly an incentive. fancy that

I am amazed at what sells and what doesn't.
Our rescued church pews made over £1k
Yet perfectly good cutlery albeit with missing pieces 😄 I had to put in the metal recycling.

The home schoolers are taking a load of white cotton sheets.

But I have just been told about some wool and alpaca in the Oxfam shop......... Cheerio!

Not strictly ‘Decluttering’, but been sorting through the airing cupboard.

Several pillows we never use, some of the tattier ones will be going to the tip. Don’t know why I’ve hung onto them, but felt they might come in as ‘spares’.

Spare what though? I disposed of a single bed we no longer needed on a free site, so now only have our bed and one guest bed, (never have any guests staying since GC are now grown up and don’t need to stay however).

Am going to put a large bedspread/throw and two hand crocheted pram blankets in the loft, in the car boot sale box for next spring. Do young mums still use those type of blankets though? 🤷‍♀️

If they don’t sell, will offer them for free, but procrastinating a bit.

Made a bit more room in the airing cupboard though.

Definite decluttering to me.

Pillows- I have done the same previously.

I have no idea what sells nowadays.

fancythat Sat 31-Oct-26 10:38:43

Should have added - yes, the extra space. Lovely.

HelterSkelter1 Sat 31-Oct-26 12:19:35

We keep so much stuff just in case. And know that once we have chucked it we will suddenly need it!!
I am being so ruthless today. Boxing up lots of things. Two boxes of quite collectable items are going to the charity shop on Monday. They came from charity shops..so they can go back. They have gone up in value over the last 30 years. It was a thrill finding them every so often. But they can go now.
