What did you think? I caught up with it on iPlayer last night just to see how it went as it was his first Christmas speech, and I thought he did quite well.

I also thought it was a very good idea not to be filmed sitting at a desk surrounded by personal photos which could then be picked apart.

Lathyrus Tue 27-Dec-22 19:57:22

Yes, you did. It made me smile😊

volver Tue 27-Dec-22 19:59:05

Then my work here is done. 🪄

I am learning quite quickly that reading comprehension is just about as good as listening skills among some of the denizens of Gransnet.

Typical Volver post.
Manages to be sarcastic, patronising and insulting in one!
😂
Us poor old dears better shuffle off for cocoa and an early night.

^Volver pointed out that the repeated comments from one side of the discussion were boring.^

I did not. But there you go. 🤷🏼

So sorry Volver Dear.

volver Tue 27-Dec-22 22:10:32

If you are trying to get me going, you may as well all go to your beds.

I'm just watching Frankie Boyle, so you're going to have to come up with something really offensive to compete...

😂

Lathyrus Tue 27-Dec-22 22:18:11

I’m watching White Christmas. You wouldn’t believe how much offence I could take from that, if I chose.

Who needs Frankie Boyle😬

You're all right Oreo. I've got three months waiting for a hearing aid. I expect to be duffed up for not hearing quite frequently.

A cocoa sounds rather nice (checked for the dreaded lactose). I had to drive outside my usual 10 mile radius and in the dark tonight. I doubt I will surviveshock

I've just had three Hotel Chocolat truffles coated in cocoa - will that do?

The other week I had to drive to a new destination in the countryside in thick fog at night 😲
Honestly, it does me no good at my age.

DaisyAnne Tue 27-Dec-22 22:38:16

I do drive outside the 10 mile radius but I did know a man once who used to regale us with tales of his father and his father's three friends.

They used to go out for day trips with friends father driving. It may help to picture the Yorkshire Dales at this point. The challenge was friends father would only turn left. So every outing had to be worked in a large circle smile

Lathyrus Tue 27-Dec-22 22:53:48

I had furry slippers for a Xmas present😳

Callistemon21 Tue 27-Dec-22 22:54:53

😀

I remember touring Wales when the Welsh Nationalists turned all the signposts round in the 1960s.
It could be very interesting sometimes.

Don't dribble your cocoa on them.

Lathyrus Tue 27-Dec-22 23:01:41

It’s the toothpaste dribbles down my front that are the curse of my life😱

I'm sure the GN grin has dentures.

Callistemon21 Tue 27-Dec-22 23:05:46

DaisyAnne 😂😂
Sounds like a plot from The Last Of The Summer Wine.
Must have resulted in some funny tours.

I bet even the King wears furry slippers and shuffles a bit.😃

I can’t grin or my teeth will fall out! Give it a go tho grin

Watched it: I was with family so I didn't have much choice.

Yes overall it was a decent speech. Touching on multi faith and hardship was real. It wasn't tedious like I usually find them. I liked the music involved.

However, as I have no time for the RF anymore I guess that sums up where I am with it.

Decent speech. I would rather the RF was disbanded

EkwaNimitee Wed 28-Dec-22 12:05:04

I haven’t watched the monarch’s speech in decades and only did so this time because others switched it on.
To answer the OP’s original question, us 3 adults thought it anodyne.
The usual meaningless stuff you’d expect from someone in his position..

Zoejory Wed 28-Dec-22 12:06:53

I do love the word anodyne

rascalsgran Wed 28-Dec-22 12:59:59

I watched the King’s Speech on catch up. I thought it a good sensible speech, and feel he’s settling in to his new role very well. I am a monarchist and would rather have the Royal family than a president ( like Trump )

Can you "disband" a family? Surely they will always be a family. Unless you are thinking of the Russian solutionshock

If you don't want them around, you would need someone else for Head of State. Who would you have? How would they get the job and what powers or limits on power would you give them?

I thought it a "decent" speech too. I was biased as my "decent" includes "of our times". Those would be my times, of course, as KC is just a year older than me.

I was disappointed to see Catherine bobbing a curtsey to her inlaws at the Carol service. I was hoping that Charles would dispense with that nonsense.

Perhaps you are right, but I found it very moving when Princess Anne curtsied as her mother’s coffin was carried into Holyrood Palace.
