Who else has been eating 🎄presents that were supposed to be for other people?

Only 2 small ones so far, but…

The other week, a packet of National Trust fudge, supposed to be for dh’s stocking.
And last night, several from a pack of Pates de Fruits that were going to a sister. Luckily easily replaced at Waitrose.

I hope I’m not the only one!

I bought various packets of chocolates and coins and DH asked me to hide them from him.
He has started mince pie testing.

Mince pie testing is a necessary and gruelling job but thankfully there’s always a few brave people prepared to take it on.We owe them a real debt of thanks for their selflessness.

I'm not one to blow my own trumpet, but I have quietly and selfessly been testing mince pies for years.

Many a packet I've put through it's paces.

According to my OH, our old dog once found my daughter's Easter egg in her wardrobe, took it out, carefully opened the box and unwrapped the foil, ate half of it then rewrapped and boxed it again! Now, I know Labradors are intelligent, but I never knew he was that clever!

Being pre-diabetic, I have a blood test for my sugar levels at the end of December. So no, no tins of Celebrations or anything extra in the house. Cruel timing.

It was the elf on the shelf!

When I was pregnant I made my Christmas cake early in November. Baby was due mid December but I had to make another cake a few days before he was born as I'd eaten the original.

Another greedy one here. I would like to eat both your would have been gifts. Last night I was invited out and took food to share. Today I am considering going to the shop to buy more of what I took so I can eat it all myself this time.

I’’ve bought lots of bars of chocolate to send to my daughter and her partner in Canada - all different, mostly seasonal, varieties.
Unfortunately Canada Post is on strike so there’s no point in mailing it to them right now!
So far I must have worked my way through at least half of this delicious stash of goodies!
Do I feel guilty? Do I heck!!
I’m just about to sample a ‘winter wonderland’ bar with my after dinner cup of coffee!
Merry Christmas DD1!!

Three years ago my sister in law got my DH and I a Lindt Chocolate Advent Calendar and gave it to us before the end of November. We had polished off every chocolate before we had even got to December. My kind daughter got us another identical calendar as she was sad to think we didn’t have one any more ….. we had eaten the contents by 3 December. No one has bought us an advent calendar this year …!

Last year I didn’t see my dgc to give them their presents until July! Too bulky to send and just everyone too busy. I had packed them in gift bags and there were little bags of chocolate in them. My excuse was that they might go off before they got them, so I kept eating them and replacing them!

A hand raised high here!

We had the same problem of our dogs eating the chocolate decorations off the tree. Now it’s the candy canes that disappear from the tree, can’t blame the dogs as they’ve died years ago. So it’s either DH or one our ACs as I’m not overly fond of candy canes.

I bought a kilo of Malteasers for everyone to dive into at Christmas, because we and all love them, including the dogs. The trouble is the dogs and I have been - well suffice It to say, it is no longer a kilo bag of Malteasers…In my defence who can only ever eat one Malteaser…

Just this morning I have been out to buy a packet of chocolate peanuts and a packet of chocolate raisins. These were to replace the ones I'd bought for DH's stocking a few days ago, but had stuffed both packets secretly at the weekend. What are the chances of the replacements lasting until Christmas? grin

MissAdventure Mon 02-Dec-24 14:18:15

I've eaten just a small bag of ccashews, so far, but if it had been a big bag, I'd have eaten them.

This post brought back some memories and made me laugh. I was a nightmare every Christmas I would eat the children’s selection boxes maybe a couple of times before Xmas eve. It kept costing me money to replace them. I tend not to buy sweet things in advance these days as they talk to me and before I know it they are gone 🐖

Pippa22 Mon 02-Dec-24 14:38:00

I have bought and eaten the same selection box several times, eaten replaced etc.

Mouse Mon 02-Dec-24 14:53:53

I have often had to replace the chocolate coins at least once. So far this year I have resisted. I have, however, eaten two sats lollies … make that three!

I still do stockings for my adult children as now for my son in law too. Temptations always there.

Mouse Mon 02-Dec-24 14:54:20

That should say Santa lollies

I used to carefully unwrap Easter Eggs which had been given to me for my young children, extract and eat the fillings (Maltesers etc) and then carefully re-wrap the eggs. My children were at high school before they discovered that Easter Eggs had fillings…. #badmother
