Anyone for a weird dinner?

I couldn't be bothered to cook tonight.

Is it just me eating this bizarre combination or anyone else having a dash around the fridge & cupboards?.....

....round of smoked salmon sandwiches, a dish of random olives, 4 mini sausage rolls, 1 cold stuffing ball, a dollop of coleslaw, a handful of cherry tomatoes and a spring onion.

Followed by a tiny (wasn't worth not eating) slice of chocolate gateau, a spoonful of cream, a satsuma and 3 dates.

I think quite a few of us have meals like that after Christmas.
I have had the last mackerel fillet with a beetroot, some cherry tomatoes and a piece of cheese with a dollop of mayonnaise and another of chutney. It will be interesting to see what I can cobble together for pudding.

I made a very nice dish of pasta in tomato sauce with leftover chicken. Sprinkled with grated cheese. Accompanied by stuffing balls - I had some mixture leftover from Christmas dinner. My granddaughter loved it.

I made a turkey and mushroom pie. Smoked salmon sandwiches with salad for lunch . Sadly Delias chocolate log was not all eaten on the 25th and was past its best so reluctantly I have put in in the food caddy.

We drove back from staying with SIL and did a detour to have a pub lunch with BIL and his wife. Lunch was really good so I had a cheese toastie this evening and OH had peanut butter on toast. tbh there's not a lot in the fridge so it's just as well neither of us wanted much to eat!

Heated a ready meal of chilli con carne. I should know better. Now I have awful heartburn so dessert is going to be a slug of Gaviscon.

Goodness, I wouldn’t have wasted a chocolate log.

Would have eaten it even if a bit dry.

Very familiar picture. All sorts of delicious odds and ends in the kitchen. It would be thoroughly irresponsible not to finish them all up.

My DS3 was with us over Christmas. He's a real scupperguts and so there were practically no leftovers by the time he left on Monday. Just enough chicken meat to make a meal for us last night.

I've been living off homemade veggie soup past few days. All roasted in oven till soft added garlic and other flavourings then whizzed up in liquidiser, veg stock add and I added cooked lentils for protein and to thicken. Yummy and real comfort food.😋😋😋

We ate up the last bit of chocolate roulade last night, a little dry, but summer fruit compote helped!

DH bought Elmlea double cream instead of diary cream. He said it was all he could get.I wasn’t pleased but it was delicious on meringues nests with strawberries! Will def buy again .

Dairy not diary!!!

Not a bad meal. You ought to try it more frequently.

Picky food is my favourite. Easy to prepare, no washing up and looks like a party.

graciemabel Wed 31-Dec-25 13:44:55

on 27th I had cold turkey and cold bread sauce sandwich with coffee and brandy butter cream added, delicious1

Iam the one who ends up with all the leftovers as 1 son wont eat leftovers and 1 only eats leftover chicken, ribs etc.🙄

Nannan2 Wed 31-Dec-25 14:07:43

So yes i always end up with weird meals.

Grantanow Wed 31-Dec-25 14:38:41

my son would call me on the way home from work many years ago and ask if i could put a surprise in the oven, meaning different bits from the freezer, i do the same, but i have a bowl of salad with mine. i spent christmas on my own so i have been having different cold meats, chicken and various salad bits and fruit for afters

My sil introduced me many years ago to the meal entitled "things on the table". GCs grew up with this concept. We all know what we mean - and we all love it. It can be leftovers or specially prepared things, hot and/or cold.

It is traditional, to clear out your home, before the New Year, and that sounded like a great effort.
Job done.

Baked potato with spiced red cabbage and feta cheese anyone?
