Why do you travel? What drives you to venture far from home and see sights you've never seen before?

Collette have spent the last 100 years taking people all over the world, and along the way they've learned that travel isn’t about the places you go. It’s about you and your reasons for going.

And everyone has different reasons. They can be big - a promise to a loved one, fulfilling a lifetime goal. But they can also be small - the blue water in Capri or the cuisine in France.

The reason doesn’t have to be happy for the trip to be important and fulfilling. In fact, the most powerful reasons probably won’t be. But they will be personal, deep, meaningful and maybe even surprising.

As the longest-running tour operator in North America, Collette has provided guided travel for 100 years. With trips to all seven continents, Collette’s guests fulfil their deepest travel aspirations in a variety of ways with travel styles that are diversified to suit every traveller’s personal style.

So, for the chance to win a £300 voucher, tell us - what's your reason for travel?

I travel to Australia as my son, wife and two children aged 9 and 12 live on the outskirts of Adelaide. My daughter in law comes from Australia and her parents live quite nearby. After living in England for about 10 years they went to Australia and my son is now an Australian. I am almost 80 and usually have to travel alone. It would be wonderful if I could win this money and I may be able to travel with a little more comfort.

Seeing new places, meeting new people, learning about life and other people's lives so very different from our own. The world is such a fascinating place it is almost a crime not to travel as much as you possibly can.

It makes me feel alive to experience new things and meet new people.

To explore new places and cultures. I think it's especially important for children to see that places around the world are different to where we live yet the people who live there also have many similarities to us.

I love travelling because I like discovering new places, cultures and people.

To escape the British winter weather, to explore different countries and scenes, to see that there are other ways of living than the narrowly defined capitalist one we have here in the UK, to hear and practise different languages, to taste other cuisines .... So many reasons.

I loved the character-building adventures that came with backpacking when I was young.

These days, I only travel either to see family or for occasional city breaks. I choose destinations that I can enjoy on foot and which have beautiful art and craft. It gives me great pleasure to see the skill and creativity of artists and craftspeople in different countries.

I travel to visit friends and family, to have adventures visiting exciting locations, or to get away from everyday life and chill out somewhere hot.

Escapism from home life, eg housework, routine etc
Indulgence in the little treats as I can't allow myself to go over the top so a small lovely find or treat is always lovely indulgence when i reach the point in the holiday where i am relaxed and come across something of aurprise and delight the more expensive things I just marvel at .
The wow factor as you always come across somewhere which just blows you away as you don't expect it at least several times but it is still wow!
History, culture so so many things/reasons.

Travel was never a priority as we were always renovating and investing in our homes. Now I've passed the big 50 and am thinking ahead to the retirement years, travel has become the big void left to fill and I am now excited at the thought of experiencing this wonderful world we live in. I finally get that life is too short and a full life is full of memories.

susantrubey Wed 19-Sept-18 15:49:23

I travel simply because I love to.

Doris19 Wed 19-Sept-18 15:57:41

I travel because it keeps me alive A bit like a shark - Stay still and die The world is such an amazing place and there is always somewhere new to explore. It doesn't have to be far away from where you live if money is tight Some of the most intriguing places can be on your own doorstep. The world is becoming more accessible and the more I see online or on TV the more I want to see for myself As I get older I have time to plan and savour each trip and look forward to each new adventure It's fun to spend time planning with a special person in your life and if there is no such person there are companies who can support solo travellers. Sometimes life can be tough so Carpe Deium and live.

samsgran2008 Wed 19-Sept-18 15:59:45

Travel is my way of relaxing with our family and dogs -exploring what we dont see and expect everyday and to expand all our horizons

Candelle Wed 19-Sept-18 16:15:43

The world is a big place and I have only seen (although fairly well travelled) a tiny bit of it.

I hope to keep on finding new places, sights, smells and tastes, meeting new people and understanding that we are not all the same (although the bottom line is that we really are!).

SheenaBatey123 Wed 19-Sept-18 16:39:38

I travel to simply see the beauty and wonder of the world

cazhow Wed 19-Sept-18 16:40:08
