Why do you travel? What drives you to venture far from home and see sights you've never seen before?

Collette have spent the last 100 years taking people all over the world, and along the way they've learned that travel isn’t about the places you go. It’s about you and your reasons for going.

And everyone has different reasons. They can be big - a promise to a loved one, fulfilling a lifetime goal. But they can also be small - the blue water in Capri or the cuisine in France.

The reason doesn’t have to be happy for the trip to be important and fulfilling. In fact, the most powerful reasons probably won’t be. But they will be personal, deep, meaningful and maybe even surprising.

As the longest-running tour operator in North America, Collette has provided guided travel for 100 years. With trips to all seven continents, Collette’s guests fulfil their deepest travel aspirations in a variety of ways with travel styles that are diversified to suit every traveller’s personal style.

So, for the chance to win a £300 voucher, tell us - what's your reason for travel?

This may sound silly, and i probably won't be able to explain very eloquently but I love looking at things! I take delight in the aesthetic of a view, of the scenery, the coast, the countryside. I feel stressed at home as I know there's a hundred things I should be doing but whilst travelling I know I'm there purely to enjoy myself.

I travel to be inspired and spend time relaxing with my family. It's nice to get out of routine and unwind in new surroundings whilst meeting new people and exploring different places.

I travel for different reasons. Sometimes to relax, sometimes to explore and enjoy the culture and cuisine.

We're up to around 80 countries visited, so I guess the main reason is to see the world and to experience different cultures.

I travel because i've spent decades raising my children and have been divorced for 15 years of that time. My youngest finished university and I felt the need to see places I had never seen before. I've been all over Europe in my small RV and have loved every moment. It has given me a new lease on life.

Many years ago, I came across the following quotation from Mark Twain. I've travelled all over the world since then and it continues to inspire me.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

I usually only travel to see family who are spread out all over the uk - we only all get together for weddings and funerals! Because of finances my trips are locally on the buses

I like to travel as it gives me the opportunity to see new places and experience different cultures.

I also think that travel 'broadens the mind' and helps to break down the barriers which can prevent us from knowing what different races are really like. You see so much on the television about different cultures but it is not until you actually visit another country that you can really understand the people who live there.

I have been to Japan where I found the people quite shy and reserved.I found Americans polite and well- mannered which is not the way they are often portrayed in the press.

The reason I travel is because my husband and I worked hard before retiring and it was the thought of travel that kept us going! It keeps us young and it's amazing meeting new people and seeing new sights.

I travel as much as I can as I want to see all the members of my family who have moved to lots of different parts of the world. I have a very large family and I plan to see them all before I am too old to do so.

Humph Tue 11-Sept-18 18:04:15

To discover new places and cultures and to try new food and drink

Adult life travelling was curtailed by expense of holidays in school holiday time and eventually by cost of gettting a family of 5 abroad. DH strokes after 60 meant long haul travelling was still impossible. Finally 10 years on he is well enough to travel and we love seeing the places and people we planned to. In the last year we have seen wild animals in South Africa, the Last Post at the Menin Gate and most recently, humpback whales in Canada. Wonderful memories to make for our even older years!

When my brothers and I were children, a sail across the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man was considered to be going abroad!

As children, we loved being on the beach, paddling, building sand castles, and ball games. Also loved rides on trams exploring the island.

Now as adults, we prefer travelling to see historic monuments and sights, beautiful scenery, and try different cousines. Our travels have mainly been to Italy, Belgium, and other European countries, but we love exploring places we haven't previously seen.
