ANGER

We need to be angry. We need to hold the government to account.

Yes, many of the populace are not abiding by the very lax lockdown. BUT the government should have abided by the WHO advice to TEST, TEST, TEST. By not doing that, they will have cost tens of thousands of British deaths. Our family members, our friends, our colleagues.

When this is over / slowing down, they need to be held accountable. We had THREE months notice. We watched Italy and Spain. And yet, they did nothing.

Remember that headline in The News of the World?
'Prince Charles Denies taking Drugs'
(Because he hadn't)

It's how you tell 'em!!

Chewbacca Tue 14-Apr-20 20:07:18

Drug addiction, faked critical illness, digging up past private matters; the bottom of the barrel is being well and truly scraped by some posters on here.

Labaik Tue 14-Apr-20 20:17:17

You don't have to scrape far to find something about Johnson, though. How many times has he been sacked for lying?

GagaJo Tue 14-Apr-20 20:37:35

Merlotgran, this isn't the first time you've incorrectly assumed something about me.

I had NOT been in contact with the colleague who tested positive. The HM of my school was found to be positive 3 days after I left the school and he informed us all by email. I've only clapped eyes on him once or twice in the far distance. I've certainly never had any contact with him.

As to the second part of your post, yes, I did discuss it with my Chinese friend. I discussed my situation with her. We talked about how many known cases in my village (at that point it was 5 or 6 BUT, as we all know, there will have been more untested) and what I should do. I couldn't follow ALL her advice because some of the things she recommended, I couldn't do. BUT I did wear a mask. I had plenty of hand sanitizer. I took alcohol wipes and wiped down the area around my plane seat (the couple next to me were also wearing masks, I shared my wipes with them). I stayed as far away from others as I could. Sitting on the floor in the airport in the remotest corner that I could until time to board.

Bearing in mind that this was now well over a month ago. Well before we went into lockdown, although my UK family had been in lockdown for a week by the time I got home. I had also been isolating for a week, up to the point I flew.

Chewbacca Tue 14-Apr-20 21:06:52

I've no idea how many times he's been sacked for lying Labaik but I accept and acknowledge that you're pretty hung up about it; even to the extent that you suspect he may not have been critically ill in hospital after all. Just a bit silly really.

Anniebach Tue 14-Apr-20 21:32:02

Drug addict ? Rubbish, he did cocaine in the 80’s, if he was
addicted what state would he be in now ?

Faked critical illness ? Named nurses, the parents of one of the
two nurses gave a tv interview , if he had faked the illness someone would have sold the story to the press.

Labaik Tue 14-Apr-20 21:32:28

I have never said he wasn't ill. I'm just pointing out that when someone lies about a lot of things sometimes you get a boy who cried wolf situation. I really don't like people who lie. Simple as that.

merlotgran Tue 14-Apr-20 21:36:10

I had also been isolating for a week, up to the point I flew.

I'm afraid that doesn't count once you leave your place of residence and take a flight to another country. You have to reset the clock.

If you glance down your posts on this thread you started you can see why I assumed you'd been in contact with your headmaster. You didn't mention you had nothing to worry about because you'd only clapped eyes on him once or twice in the distance. In fact everyone was genuinely concerned about you.

I'm also not the only one who thought you took a chance flying back to the UK given the situation.

Chewbacca Tue 14-Apr-20 21:44:56

I'm not sure what the connection between the boy who cried wolf, and Boris Johnson becoming infected with COVID19, is Labaik. Has Boris claimed to have had serious illnesses in the past and then it's been found that he's not been ill at all?--this is getting weirder by the minute--.

Iam64 Tue 14-Apr-20 21:47:30

Chewie - that made me laugh. For that, thank you so much.

Labaik Tue 14-Apr-20 21:49:00

Is anyone saying anything about Urmstongran flying out to wherever she has her holiday home or is just lets all gang up on GagaJo time?? Talk about petri dishes; this forum is downright venomous at the moment....

merlotgran Tue 14-Apr-20 21:56:24

Labaik I have said nothing venomous about GagaJo and I am certainly not ganging up on anyone.

I'm merely pointing out why I thought she had maybe not taken the advice of her Chinese friend although she was quoting it to others.

Urmstongran has nothing to do with this and should be left out of it.

Pantglas2 Tue 14-Apr-20 21:58:49

I think you’ll find Urmstongran was already in Spain at the beginning of March Laibak ( she’ll probably confirm later) and has been there ever since under lockdown!

It was DH and I who were due to fly there on 30 March but didn’t.

Callistemon Tue 14-Apr-20 22:06:09

I did think your comments about the dedicated staff at St Thomas's were most offensive Laibak. You have not apologised for those as far as I know and continue with your nasty insinuations about them. No, I am not ganging up, just very angry on behalf of those in the ICU putting their lives at risk for anyone who needs them. That would mean you too, whether you accuse them of lying or not.

MawB Tue 14-Apr-20 22:07:34

I am sure you did all you thought necessary at the time Gagajo and the pull to come home must have been very strong. With the benefit of hindsight and knowing what we know now, namely that a person can be contagious while asymptomatic for a good 5 days before any symptoms appear, you were lucky and were I in a position to advise anybody in a similar position now I would say that learning of a possible contact in your workplace, a full 14 days quarantine before moving in with your family would have been advisable.
However you were lucky as I said and others have not been.
It is not for me to judge Urmstongran , nor indeed you, Labaik but my assumption is that finding themselves in Spain when the lockdown started, they felt it wiser to stay put rather than risk bringing any infection home with them or expose other travellers en route. Lashing out at other people’s actions helps nobody but now we know what we do, we must act in accordance with government advice - no bending of the rules, no exceptions, no sneaking a cuddle with the grandkids and no moving in or out of homes.

Callistemon Tue 14-Apr-20 22:13:24

Sensible post, * MawB*

I am still feeling raw about the attack on the professionalism of ICU staff, hence my post.

maddyone Tue 14-Apr-20 22:19:28

Urmstongran has definitely been away in her holiday home for a very good while because she has mentioned this ages ago on another thread.
As far as GagaJo is concerned, it’s my opinion only, but I think she was wise to get out of Switzerland when she could and it sounds as though she took all reasonable precautions, which is probably a lot more than many of the thousands of others who’ve been flying into the country since then. And since she arrived she hasn’t left the flat/house (not sure which) that is her home in England, as I understand it from what she’s said.
I don’t think merlot is ganging up on anyone.
There are some unpleasant posts about Boris Johnson though. I think he should be left alone to recuperate, it’s really unpleasant to kick a man when he’s down, metaphorically speaking. And I don’t think it’s appropriate to play party politics during a pandemic. Keir Starmer isn’t!

MawB Tue 14-Apr-20 22:26:24

I cannot imagine how anybody can sink so low as to criticise let alone attack ICU staff - or any NHS or care home staff. These people’s working days are long and fraught with risk- risks none of us would choose to be exposed to and it says more about those who criticise them than about any public figure.

Labaik Tue 14-Apr-20 22:30:06

Criticising the government and the PM is not criticising the NHS.

MawB Tue 14-Apr-20 22:46:50

I did think your comments about the dedicated staff at St Thomas's were most offensive Laibak. You have not apologised for those as far as I know and continue with your nasty insinuations about them
I am assuming this refers to the deleted post?
Sometimes posts should be left up so that all can see them and form their own opinion.

Callistemon Tue 14-Apr-20 22:48:19

You said that the ICU staff at Thomas's would have given Boris Johnson preferential treatment, Laibak. A slur on their professionalism and the care they give to all their patients.

However, I can't be bothered to point that out to you again.

Good night.

Labaik Tue 14-Apr-20 23:08:29

Assume away MawB; from what I can recall it was a post asking POGS if she'd got out of bed the wrong way this morning.

maddyone Tue 14-Apr-20 23:09:54

Maw and Callistemn
Good posts.

POGS Tue 14-Apr-20 23:19:57

Laibak

Oh dear is that all you said. Why you felt the need to post about me I am not sure , I could ask if you are you 'ganging up on me' if I were a child.

I never saw your post but if that was all that was said please GNHQ reinstate the deleted post because I care not a jot what certain posters post about me, I sure as hell never reported it.
