I'm confused. I spoke to my DiL last night. She is currently working on Covid HDU and said there are plenty of PPE kits there. ??

Whatever the NHS needs.Government has supplied them with money....and plenty of it.
If an organisation like the Army had been running things we would be seeing a quite different picture.

ICU/HDU are only a tiny part of the jigsaw though.

I’m sure you’ve seen news reports about other wards and other sectors who are reporting shortages or inadequate PPE.

I think Care Home staff have been let down in the most disgraceful way over the PPE supply. By their managers, by the owners of the homes and by the Government.
When this is over the CQC needs to take a long hard look at how some homes are run, staff need more training and improved wages. Owners and managers need to be more accountable. Well done to all those carers who have gone over and above to ensure the people in their care are supported.

Same here with my DIL craftygranny her hospital has been well supplied from the very start.

No - hospitals haven’t been very well supplied lemon, as well you know. Certain wards like ICU and HDU have been better supplied, but please don’t make stuff up for effect about whole hospitals being very well supplied.

And let’s not forget the other sectors, community teams and do on who still can’t get what they need.

Some hospitals have been better supplied with PPE because their managers have been better.The huge hospital where my DIL works as a nurse have had no shortages at all.

Where are these managers getting their PPE from? Do they have some secret stash in a cupboard somewhere?

They have been well organised for the start.Some hospitals have better managers than others.

If you work or have worked for the NHS you will understand how difficult it is and always was to whistleblow. With that in mind are some of you suggesting that that the people interviewed on Panorama were just making it up?
Oh and BTW I know of a large hospital and a few care homes that do not have enough of the correct PPE I and out of my own area

EllanVannin and Sharon103, totally off down their own little deluded track blaming hospital 'mis'management. It's victim-blaming, pure and simple.

Our government is (in theory, anyway) responsible for emergency planning and response. The buck stops there.

and I'd also like to add whilst the vast majority of care homes in this country are privately run their residents have paid into the NHS most of their working lives and therefore should be protected in the same way.

Maybe they secretly took up some of the offers of PPE the government failed to access! At a time when NHS managers were working with restricted budgets and desperately trying to keep things running they are now being blamed for the lack of PPE. Of course they sourced the cheapest products, money was being cut at every turn. Let's not forget that the government was pursuing a policy of cutting in order to privatise services. And let's also think of the future because the waiting list for non-essential operations is growing every day and from months may well be years. It will be NHS managers who will once again have to try and balance the budget and provide the best services. Let's hope at least they will be given more resources to do that. But it is a NATIONAL health service and not a local organisation which is managed by the government and they have the ultimate responsibility.

Lying hypocrites of politicians! Panorama last night was bad for my blood pressure.

I will repeat for the benefit of all those moaning about this government, that is what people voted for in December and the previous three general elections.

Sometimes you get exactly what you asked for.

The UK didn’t get what they voted for but that’s FPTP for you.

The Tory voters shouldn’t be moaning though - they’re getting what they voted for.

Absolutely right EllanVannen the Government provide the money but each trust decides how it will spend its share. To blame the Government for being unprepared for CV-19 is a complete joke and trial by TV is not at all what we need today. This particular pandemic was completely unexpected, a flu pandemic was not, and so the preparations allowed for what would be needed for the expected epidemic plus some additional capacity. To blame the Government for being unprepared for an unexpected and completely different disease is like blaming the BBC for not having made numerous extra editions of Eastenders to cover their inability to create new drama content during lockdown. It is a ludicrous argument.

Surely the problem has been with Supply Chain Coordination Limited, a Limited company wholly owned by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, which has been responsible for supplying the NHS trusts since 2016. It has been unable to supply the trusts with its orders because it failed to stockpile. This isn't to do with the inefficiency of trusts or ward managers but with supply issues.

It seems an awful lot of attack dogs have been let off the leash on social media over the last day or so.

TRust managers can't procure when the orders can't be fulfilled because the equipment isn't there!!!

I remember during the coalition government that Philip Green was brought in as a procurement "tsar" because trusts were doing their own thing and not getting economies of scale. That's when Supply Chain Coordination Limited was formed and there was a reversal of the previous policy to fragment. It's a government-owned company and is supposed to be able to supply the NHS. It's not the trusts' fault if it can't do its job because it doesn't have the stuff in its warehouses.

The attempt to blame individual managers is misguided.
