I predict another rise of covid

I didn't state I believed the figures from here either, so why should I believe those from a country of 1.4 billion people, many of whom lives in extreme poverty in overcrowded slums with poor sanitation?

Or perhaps I should believe every word but not those of this country.

I don’t believe the figures from the UK either, I suspect they may be nearer to forty thousand. However, I also don’t believe the figures from other countries either.

And I don’t think we should be relaxing anything yet!

I hope they don't find an upsurge in cases.

The trouble is, on any forum you will get people who will say anything about a current government.....because they vote the other way so enjoy deriding them.
So easy to say what ‘the government’ should have done ( in their expert view)? and it should be remembered that all countries have struggled to do their best, in their differing ways, we all want it to be coped with, and then got over and a vaccine available.
Some European countries have armed police who employ harsh measures and the populace do not want to mess with them, which is why Spain for instance managed to keep all citizens ( virtually!) under strict lockdown.It couldn’t and shouldn’t happen here.
It will be interesting to see what Johnson announces tonight,
But a cautious returning to normality, for most of the country has to be tried, if only for the economy ( although for mental wellbeing as well) is necessary.Those of us who should be very careful can continue to be so.

It seems to me that similar to many threads, much energy is raised by quibbling with one another over minutia, and sight of the bigger picture is lost.

The initial shielding list was made based on the best assumptions about risk hierarchies that could be made at the time.

We are now NOT shielding the most vulnerable. They are at work while people lower risk than them shield.

Thank you Lemon and with respect, I do think the lockdown should have been stricter, and the police given the powers to enforce it.

notanan Do you have evidence of that? From what I've seen on local Facebook groups, those who received the shielding letters are definitely not working. Many of them had already retired and others have very serious conditions and couldn't work.

I agree with those that say this isn't about politics. I may not have voted Tory, but ANYONE that can have some kind of handle on this will be a hero in my eyes.

I think Cummings is behind a lot of the bad decisions and should go. The government need to retool with PROPER scientific advisors and forget about the cost and profit/loss and get a stranglehold on the country. Get the army in. Totally ignore their donors. Because if not, we're going to hit the 200,000 deaths figure that some predicted a couple of months ago.

there are BAME males who are over 60 and have medical conditions.

They ARE the most at risk and many of them are still front line working while less at risk white people shield.

Blaming Cummings is pointless, the Cabinet do have proper scientific advisors, and profit and loss cannot be ignored foerever....there would be no money to achieve anything if the economy goes to pot more than it already has.
There may well be second waves of Covid19 as there have been in other countries, but they too, have to balance the economy and health.This virus will be around a long time yet, but it won’t be possible or desirable for society to continue in lockdown for much longer.Those who really need to will have to continue being careful.

No, grandMattie, but I still don't fancy the idea of being struck down with a horrible avoidable illness. I've been in an ambulance once, fearing I wouldn't make it to the hospital. I'd quite like to hang on for a bit longer … and I expect most people would, given the choice.
