In about 3-4 weeks time .

This idiot government is losing control.

notanan I have and I know being BAME is a big risk factor, but it's not the biggest. Try looking at pictures of the tens of thousands who have died. You'll find most of them are elderly males. If you looked at their medical records, you'd find most of them have certain medical conditions and/or are seriously overweight or obese.

notanan2 Sun 10-May-20 14:49:59

most of the pictures of the medics who died were older black or asian males!

the origional shielding list was drawn uo to capture the most at risk. It did not account for race. We now know race does change your risk.

The list needs to change now that we know better

notanan2 Sun 10-May-20 14:51:39

also look at the younger, slimer deaths. They are even less likely to be white

Oldwoman70 Sun 10-May-20 14:52:11

Isn't it true that no matter what the government decide to do some people will disagree with it. If they decide to relax restrictions, even a little bit, they will be blamed for any increase in deaths, if they don't they will be accused of violating peoples human rights (as stated by Piers Corbyn).

foreigners can't be trusted an inch
Are you including my family in that MaizieD?

Thanks.

Oh growstuff I do hope you’re right, that’ll be some mumbling about garden centres and exercise tonight and not much else. I’m afraid, very afraid that you might be wrong. I do hope not.

Callistemon Sun 10-May-20 15:12:46

Shall I break out and go to the Garden Centre?
I dont have shielded tattooed across my forehead.

maddyone Sun 10-May-20 15:13:40

growstuff I don’t think I said you do believe figures from other countries did I? I don’t believe any of the figures, from the UK or anyone else to be honest. I’m sorry if I said that. Looking back I thought I agreed with you.

maddyone Sun 10-May-20 15:18:06

Is the Garden Centre open Callistemon ? I think you’ll have to wait till tomorrow for that, or possibly later.

Callistemon Sun 10-May-20 15:23:15

Tomorrow maddyone

However, we just ordered a delivery, it came last week. And I'm not supposed to go out but I keep thinking of the Queen song:

"I Want to Break Free"

(Now I'll get told off on this thread.)

Dinahmo Sun 10-May-20 15:24:47

Ellenvannin Perhaps the ASians were elbrating the death of a family member and /or close friend?

Hetty58 Sun 10-May-20 15:26:13

I'll be watching BBC1 at 7 pm with interest. I'm really hoping that few restrictions are lifted.

Already we've had the 'forgetting' of social distancing with Friday's VE street parties, traffic levels have picked up, more people are having visitors and children are playing out together.

Fast forward a couple of weeks from now (the incubation period) and, inevitably, infection levels will be on the rise - without any official changes at all.

Dinahmo Sun 10-May-20 15:36:57

There is now a theory that high levels of testosterone have contributed to the number of covid deaths in the elderly. There are more deaths among men than women.

MaizieD Sun 10-May-20 15:37:58

Jeez! I'm the one who is in trouble for being trusting, Callistomen. I didn't say that I don't trust foreigners.

I think it is so sad that some people go through their lives with being suspicious of everyone and everything as their default mode.

Callistemon Sun 10-May-20 15:44:26

Yes, must be awful, I agree.

Neither did I. Just the figures.
I don't understand the implicit trust in other countries' facts and figures but the deep mistrust of those of the UK, that's all.

You didn't answer the question: Have you been to India?

GrannyGravy13 Sun 10-May-20 16:16:02

Thousands of Citizens protested in Berlin, Munich and Stuttgart yesterday against the German Governments lockdown policy, they are calling for an end to restrictions.

Haven't seen this being reported by MSM

You cannot confine people indefinitely in a democracy.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 10-May-20 16:17:02

Bit shortsighted of them in Germany the R is now over 1% and rising.

notanan2 Sun 10-May-20 16:18:47

There is now a theory that high levels of testosterone have contributed to the number of covid deaths in the elderly. There are more deaths among men than women.

and a disproportionate amount of those men are BAME but GN isnt interested in that....

Callistemon Sun 10-May-20 16:26:35

Yes, some of us are, that is why we'll be interested in the results of research, blood groups and genetics.

notanan2 Sun 10-May-20 16:31:47

the data is already there. It has already been corrected to account for comorbidities and poverty and being BAME remains a huge risk even when corrected for those other factors.

Why isnt that enough?
No it wont be interesting to wait to find out why. They need protecting NOW.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 10-May-20 17:01:22

15# of UK is BAME, 17% is Covid related deaths are BAME not hugely over what would be expected.

maddyone Sun 10-May-20 17:01:58

The problem is notanan2 that any attempt to restrict the BAME would probably be seen as racism. They do need protection, but how?

GrannyGravy13 Sun 10-May-20 17:02:51

The new guidelines for businesses are now available on Gov.co.uk

maddyone Sun 10-May-20 17:03:40

Only 17%! That surprises me, it seems much more, particularly when we look at the NHS deaths.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 10-May-20 17:03:48

# should be % is should read of.
