Watching Dominic Cummings being grilled on tv by journalists Asking the same questions over and over. It is obvious from the guidelines which he read out that he was not breaking them.
His family and especially his child must come first. He did what he thought was best.
Leave the poor man alone.

Yes.
Easy mistake to make.
One minute you're telling the public to stay home, the next you've packed the family into your car and are heading off miles away.

grin

I think Mr and Mrs C displayed poor judgement with their actions but the vitriol on here and the media, in general, is purely because he led the Leave campaign and is disliked by many. I believe if he had been an arch Remainer then excuses would have been found for him because he must be a decent all round bloke. As for the drive out to B Castle, it makes sense after a car being idle for weeks to do a test drive to check the battery wasn't flat before tackling the long journey home.

If he is forced to resign then all public figures, who travelled to second family homes at the point of or during lockdown and who are paid for by the tax payer, should go too. That includes the Queen, Charles, William, Boris et al, which leaves us with Harry as the Monarch and Queen Markle!

Grannyjay he chose to go into his current job and therefore has to accept scrutiny. I’m sure he has a fat salary too. I really can’t understand why people believe all the waffle presented by Mr Cummings. My sympathies are with those families who had REAL issues and coped within guidelines.

MissAdventure Mon 25-May-20 19:25:26

I would never, ever make excuses for anyone, because it's inexcusable.

paddyanne Mon 25-May-20 19:36:13

do we get to vote on that quizqueen ? I'll happily vote them all out and we dont actually NEED a monarch its just window dressing...expensive window dressing

Orangerose Mon 25-May-20 19:37:12

Well said quizqueen.

It seems that QQ belongs to that small minority who think any lies are OK as long as they are uttered by a brexiter.

Jishere Mon 25-May-20 19:50:02

Silent scream. Quizqueen how do u know if any of them drove anywhere during the lock down?
They may represent this country but they are not making any rules, so it's simply not the same.
A lot of damage as now be done I have sat and watched Boris and to say he used his instinct is nothing but outrageous! Because a lot have been in alot worse painful situations an probably feel stupid/engulfed with guilt that they didn't use their instinct but followed rules.
How will anyone trust what they say? If there is always loopholes !

BlueSky Mon 25-May-20 20:04:36

As I said I'm really annoyed at Cummings behaviour and disappointed to say the least at Boris condoning it. I usually justify the PM with my DH, but this time I'm lost for words! angry

Niobe Mon 25-May-20 20:06:17

Quiz queen, you're forgetting about George, Charlotte and Louis. No need for King Harry and Queen Meghan. Just saying.

Niobe Mon 25-May-20 20:12:24

I'm not a fan of Johnson or Cummings but we are going to have to move on from this. I am more concerned about when I can see my family again and get tested for new specs than the lies and excuses trotted out by this pair. Sooner or later both will be held to account.

mcem Mon 25-May-20 20:16:36

Utter tosh from QQ as usual.
lemon as other prominent people who 'made mistakes' have had to resign, why should it be different for him? Like those others he needs to resign because of WHAT HE DID!

Parsley3 Mon 25-May-20 20:59:04

He drove to check the battery of his car? Love it. I wish he had used that excuse himself.

Nezumi65 Mon 25-May-20 20:59:09

He was breaking them.

He went back to work when his wife had coronavirus symptoms
He left his home for no good reason (having a child is not an exceptional circumstance - and in any case that clause was in place for women who had to leave the home due to DV
A child is not a vulnerable person according to the definitions of the guidance
He made a non-essential journey to a nearby town - a journey he made knowing he might not be able to see very well.
His wife’s account in the spectator differed entirely from the account today

Callistemon Mon 25-May-20 21:16:12

My friend wasn't going to infect anyone when she went for a walk in the woods with her dogs and saw no-one - so why did she get threatened with a fine if she parked there again? There was one other car in the car park, rarely more even in normal times.

varian Mon 25-May-20 21:29:56

He said when he returned to London he arranged childcare. Why could he not have arranged childcare in London instead of leaving London?

GGumteenth Mon 25-May-20 21:42:02

Varian, I know you know the answer to that. You are just trying to make something out of nothing.

There is a great deal of difference between offering a job to someone in a household with one and possibly two people suffering from the virus to offering a job to someone in a household where two people have been away having CV and have only come back when the doctor said it was a) safe to go back to work and b) safe to employ someone.

GGumteenth Mon 25-May-20 21:43:03

This is getting very boring when people are just making something up so they can go on being angry. Why not go for a long walk and get it out of your system?

varian Mon 25-May-20 21:46:04

Are we seriously supposed to believe that before this incident they had no childcare arrangements even though both parents were working, no friends, no neighbours, no relations in London?

Callistemon Mon 25-May-20 21:48:02

GGumteeth because we obey the rules.

varian Mon 25-May-20 21:50:06

Are you new to GN GGumteenth?

We suddenly seem to have an influx of uncritical DC/BJ fans.

SueDonim Mon 25-May-20 22:13:45

We don’t even know if they had Coronavirus. I’m sure Cummings said none of them had had a test.

sharon103 Mon 25-May-20 22:17:44

I agree. This is a nasty witch hunt because of who he is.
I've yet to see a mention on Stephen Kinnock

The MP for Aberavon in South Wales was publicly shamed by police after travelling to London to celebrate his father’s birthday.
Are the press hounding him? No. He just got a telling off by the police.
I've never seen such nastiness since this outbreak began.
Every day in the media Boris gets blasted. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. It's all to do with political scoring
This witch hunt wouldn't have anything to with Brexit would it.

varian Mon 25-May-20 22:19:46

Are you another new poster sharon103?
