The Cummings Effect - are people rebelling?

My very law abiding neighbours seem to have changed since the Cummings interview.

One couple headed off to their second home the day after and I have noticed that others are no longer observing the 2 metre advice.

This is a very small community and I am wondering if others are not complying now with the rules.

If this is happening across the country then it is very worrying. I know many people are angry and feel betrayed.

Any one listening carefully to the Scientific advice, and the daily bulletins will understand the ‘rules’ and why they are set. Also, all along we’ve been told to use ‘common sense’ and to Stay safe and protect The NHS. We all have to help to stop the infection as much as possible- until we can control it properly or we can all be vaccinated safely. Neither is happening yet so we must remain vigilant.
DCummings followed 3 lots of Royals in decamping at the beginning. Not a good example to the general population. Probably a lot of other 2 home owners decamped to their Healthy home option too. Countryside or city? They’re only in one so surely ok if not flitting about(as DC)! Must say the constant criticism of everything the gov do is not helping those who are confused/ worried/alone. What pressure! We need the media to question but this feels ruthless

suzie it would all stop immediately if Cummings resigned

Callistemon Thu 28-May-20 16:48:41

Houndi the Alice Cummings who is a director of the Track and Trace system is no relation of Dominic Cummings.

It's easy to verify some facts even if the ones surrounding D Cummings's movements are difficult to track and trace.

Just back. Well the roads and streets round here seem much busier than they have been. Better weather? Just sick of the lockdown or the Cummings effect?

JenniferEccles Thu 28-May-20 17:40:15

Durham police are taking no action against Dominic Cummings.

Now really is the time to let this rest and move on.

Torbroud Thu 28-May-20 17:41:33

Sack him, he has shown he has no respect for the people of Britain by his actions.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-May-20 17:42:06

No it isn’t. ItS what Johnson would like to happen, but it ain’t going to happen.

Take the blinkers and put youself in that situation what would you do my thinking is family fist and last i would willingly follow my heart not what other people think its about family

Jane10 Thu 28-May-20 18:59:27

Yes it's about family so we went for a BBQ in DDs garden today. I went with my instincts so that's OK.

LuckyFour Thu 28-May-20 19:11:33

I think it's ridiculous to risk putting yourself in danger just because Dominic Cummings did something stupid. I will be following the rules as long as I have to as I definitely DO NOT WANT TO GET THE VIRUS and I prefer to keep myself and my Dh as safe as possible.
We can't blame someone else if we get the virus by not following the rules, we must use our common sense and keep ourselves safe.

Callistemon Thu 28-May-20 19:14:05

It's OK, Jane10, sometimes some people have more sense than those who make and break the rules.

Peardrop50 Thu 28-May-20 19:16:41

The difference is he had the baying media at his door and nasty threats on his social media while the threat of covid19 hung over his family so he escaped to a safe place for child care and security. He kept it quiet so that the baying media at his door didn't do the same to his sister, nieces and parents, oh yes..... now they have. Unforgivable media scum.
Also fed up with Chinese whispers even here in eleven pages of Gransnet , Linda/Alice Cummings, contract/no contract, autistic/not autistic, Durham police charging/not charging and so on and so on.
Dominic Cummings may or may not have done everything right but he has done a lot of good during this pandemic for example bringing together research institutions, coming up with helpful slogans...ironic I know but nevertheless life saving.
Let it go now, why ruin a man's career when he has much to offer.

Jishere Thu 28-May-20 19:23:31

Varian How many signatures do they need to take notice?
It's ?? BJ just wants it all swept under the carpet.

varian Thu 28-May-20 19:25:55

Its hard to say*Jishere*. You may remember that over 6 million people signed a petition asking for Article 50 to be revoked and that was ignored.

But the more signatures there are the less able the ought to be to assert that all of the people agree with this populist government.

growstuff Thu 28-May-20 19:28:48

Peardrop I honestly think your post has to be a joke. Cummings has done no good at all during this pandemic. You must live on another planet from me.

Words fail me!

Peardrop50 Thu 28-May-20 19:40:53

Another point regarding Boris Johnson being unwilling to sack Dominic Cummings. If I had worked hard and done much to help my boss and then done something which others perceived to be wrong, I would expect loyalty from my boss. A weak boss would give in to pressure from outside, a strong boss would give me the benefit of the doubt and back me.

Peardrop50 Thu 28-May-20 19:44:00

Opinion, discussion, debate, varying views is the adult way, name calling and describing other opinions as a joke, not so adult.

Witzend Thu 28-May-20 20:00:55

@Jayne67, I agree 100%.

growstuff Thu 28-May-20 20:31:14

I was being polite Peardrop.

Harmonygranny Thu 28-May-20 20:40:08

What's so depressing is how the culture of brazen disregard for the truth is absolutely now the norm in Government. I'm sure those in power have always bent the rules, but to watch Gove smirking as he lied yesterday to support Cummings' perversion of truth made me feel sick. And now we are being "instructed" by Hancock to self isolate when told to under the Track and Trace system. Tragically many people won't, precisely because they see that Cummings got away with not doing so in March. We have completely lost the plot in this country.

Daftbag1 Thu 28-May-20 20:55:23

We have lost all confidence in Boris (and his advisers), & decided that we will follow our own rules which we have kept from the start......We remain self isolating and only go into public places once a week to shop, wearing a mask.

The only thing that we long to do is to visit our daughter and camp in their garden so they get a break from trying to home school the children etc. We won't do it until it's 'permitted' though.

Esspee Thu 28-May-20 20:58:51

I would say that those who complied with the rules will continue to do so.
What Boris fails to realise is that the majority of people in this country are not prepared to accept the “one rule for us and another for you” and “do as I say, not as I do” which they are trying to push down our throats.
The contempt shown to all of us who sacrificed our liberty under the mistaken impression that “we are all in this together” has turned the ordinary citizen against Boris.
Abroad he has made our nation a laughing stock.
At home he has done untold damage to how he will be remembered and next election the Conservative party will suffer as a result.
Either Cummings should be forced to resign or both puppet and puppet master should go together.
Meanwhile those who were not sticking to the rules now have the excuse of precedent to ignore them even further. These people are dangerous and can undo much of the good work our sacrifices made possible.
To put us back on track Cummings must go.

MissAdventure Thu 28-May-20 21:06:46

It's about family, and we all have one (hopefully

I feel really angry to think anyone imagines that theirs somehow trumps anyone else's.

misty34 Thu 28-May-20 21:20:09

The thing that annoys me most is after listening to Dominic Cummings interview I can't help thinking that neither he or his wife had Covid at all! As far as I know they were not tested, which is strange considering his role. I think they went away for a few days for his wife's birthday and only came out with the Covid story and needing childcare, after been spotted in parents garden and this hit the News
