How many people do you know........

...who actually have, or had, Covid19? Not just people who say they’re ‘ sure they had it’, but definite cases. I only know of two, one who contracted it in hospital following admission for a broken hip, and another who died in a care home.

Please try not to drift ‘ off topic’, as I’m really interested to hear your answers to the question.

No one among immediate family and friends but the parents of my BiL both had it, he survived but she died. Both in their early eighties but don't know about their health (Durham).

In South Wales my SiL came home from work to say that her boss had been hospitalized and he died two weeks later - only about 50 I think.

A colleague of my OH had it (Surrey), also early 50s. He survived but has lung and kidney damage and is still undergoing treatment two months later, probably will be for life. His wife got it from him, but I don't think she was seriously ill.

Six. The DS & DiL of neighbours, early on, who came back from a sking holiday and were sitting beside an Italian gent who later tested positive. Also my dear Dad, a very fit and able 88 year old, just a couple of weeks before his 89th birthday in April .

Difficult to say when testing is still being underused. My friend was very ill (cough, upset tummy, loss of taste & smell) three weeks ago - she lives alone so rang 111 who sent out an ambulance and she was taken to hospital, where they examined her and said she had 'a virus' but they didn't want to admit her as if it wasn't Covid19, she'd probably catch it on the ward - and no, they couldn't test her for it, as they were only testing patients they admitted...!! shock
They sent her home - telling her to isolate for two weeks 'just in case' and after a few days when she felt dreadful, she's slowly recovering - but she pointed out that if she'd died, she wouldn't be counted as a Covid19 death, because she hadn't been tested...
(Oh, and this was at the time when we were all being told that we MUST have a test if we developed any of the above symptoms...!!! How many more were refused a test?

Sadly, myself and my husband, this is week seven since we tested positive and it is still ongoing. It has been the most scariest and terrible illness and it has completely taken us down, and as we are late fifties, we weren't particularly 'At risk'.

None at all where I live. Somebody where my daughter worked, over 20 miles from where I am, got it and died. He was in his 30s, quite overweight and had more than a few health problems but he’s the only one I know and it’s more probable that he died with it and not of it.

4.
Friend age 60, very mild, didn't know she had had it until antibody tested where she works in NHS, lives in London. Sister in law, age 73, very disabled living in care home in Norwich, tested positive, no symptoms.
Distant relative in 70's died.
Young relative, mid 30's, was in hospital for a week and on oxygen but now recovering well.

@rocketstop: quite understand how scary it is. I'm a little older than you and I had it in March. I fear my lungs have been permanently affected. I had no real health problems before this, I am slim, fit (was), don't drink or smoke, have a healthy lifestyle.

1 poorly 88 year man in hospital.

harrigran Mon 22-Jun-20 16:47:09

Two neighbours one caught it in hospital after being admitted with a broken ankle and a friend of my sister who had a compromised immune system died very quickly after contracting it. The last lady is someone who was shielding and never left the house at all, hence my concern on another thread about deliveries to the door.

Two of my friends husband and wife both in their 50s had it both ok now my daughters mil tested positive a month ago had no symptoms and hasn't been unwell with it only tested as her friend had mild symptoms

Possibly my DS, her DH and perhaps one or two of her DD's were very ill with a virus right at the start of March. A lady in my book group and a colleague of my Dh had the virus. The father of our local Post Office and shopkeepers caught Covid-19 and died. The whole village was distraught as he was a much loved man.

Otherwise, not many people known to us have had the virus.

One of my SIL died of COVID-19. She was just 70. However she was a very frail alcoholic with many other health issues, five of which were on her death certificate, but COVID-19 was at the top of the list.

One. Our very elderly neighbour collapsed and spent a month in hospital at the height of the pandemic. He contracted the virus there and died. He was very ill when he went in and in all probability would never have come home again, but ...

I don’t know anyone who’s had a test either. But I do know quite a few (including us) who’ve had all the symptoms. It’ll be interesting if we all get to have antibody tests.

None, but I live in the country.
Should you now do a survey as to WHERE people live who know of the most deaths/confirmed cases? Could be enlightening.

2 -my uncle in a care home died
& my boss, he was hospitalised and thankfully survived.

My Keyworker Daughter aged 47, died on the 6th April, leaving 4 children without a Mum. Brings it home how very real this pandemic is, when it directly affects your lives, so many selfish people think it will never happen to them!

Grandmama Mon 22-Jun-20 19:04:32

Until a month or so ago I didn't know anyone who had the virus nor anyone who knew anyone who had it. Then I heard that someone I know through an organisation we belong to had caught it (has since recovered) but not someone in my personal circle.
