Sorry, I must be a terrible person but this news started my day with a smile. ???

BlueBelle Fri 02-Oct-20 09:42:47

To all those on her who are shocked may I explain my feelings
It is Absolutely nothing to do with politics at all I have no interest or understanding of US politics which seem even more muddled that ours
Unfortunately his contempt for humanity all humanity, from small children, refugees, anyone of a different race or background, women, the press (especially if female) his own laws if his land, his opponents in fact anyone who isn’t a crony of his is treated with derision, harshness and complete lack of humanity

I would never wish illness on anyone not even the devil himself but I have no empathy or care for him and can’t bring myself to cry any tears for him just like he cries no tears for anyone who isn’t making him money or power

If it’s true and I m not fully convinced (it’s a hugely convenient moment out of the last 8 months to catch it ! ) he will use it as a tool so no I don’t think I m being harsh in feeling no empathy

A pattern is emerging here with certain familiar names relishing the news of Trump’s illness.

Thank goodness some can see how awful their attitude is.

merlotgran Fri 02-Oct-20 09:47:44

I wonder what Spitting Image will make of it. It's bang up to date so what a scoop for their first episode. shock

Gutted I won't be able to see it!

jaylucy Fri 02-Oct-20 09:48:44

Not surprised - I guess that he thought he would be immune . Haven't seen him wear a mask once and he doesn't seem to understand the social distancing at all.

JessK Fri 02-Oct-20 09:50:38

I agree, it is very convenient for him to get out of the debates with the hope that this will increase his votes - if they don't cancel or postpone the election of course!

Yes Sparklefizz it was the same. What is very worrying is the callous disregard for human life, a lack of any kindness and empathy and the influence this may have on the younger generation particularly grandchildren.

I agree. Apparently it’s fine though (!) to be like that about it if you hate/dislike the person who has Covid.
I wouldn’t wish any politician ill health no matter who they are.
I want Biden to win and the election to go ahead....now it may not do.

Chewbacca Fri 02-Oct-20 09:59:05

I detest Trump and all he stands for but I wouldn't wish COVID on anybody. Some of the remarks on here are awful.

And the familiar names being holier than thou and sanctimonious ??

Lucca Fri 02-Oct-20 10:02:21

Nobody “wished “ him to get Covid.

It is hard to feel sympathy for such an odious individual Even if we should.
It is also just possibly fake news
In any case latest reports say they are both well.

Gwyneth Fri 02-Oct-20 10:02:52

JenniferEccles yes I agree. I haven’t been on this site for long but certainly recognise the names of those who make nasty personal comments about people and their families. Maybe it’s because they have nothing worthwhile to say or contribute to a discussion so they have to resort to personal comments. The old proverb ‘Empty vessels make most noise’ springs to mind.

merlotgran Fri 02-Oct-20 10:02:54

Just seen a clip on TV of Trump being thoroughly nasty about Hilary Clinton when she became ill during her campaign.

Repulsive man.

Rosalyn69 Fri 02-Oct-20 10:04:08

How very convenient for him. Perfect timing. ?

Hetty58 Fri 02-Oct-20 10:06:38

As he 'doesn't believe' in wearing masks - how many people has he infected?

Like many others, I am cynical.
A few weeks back I read that his inarticulate ramblings were actually losing him support even among Republicans and there was a suggestion to try to rein back his public speaking.
The Trump/Biden debate certainly did him no favours so I wonder if the US equivalent of Baldrick has devised a cunning plan to get him out of the public eye, keep him quiet and (hopefully) elicit some sympathy.
As I said, cynical, maybe but let’s see who they bring in to campaign on his behalf. Perhaps someone less inflammatory and more acceptable to Republicans in general?

Riverwalk Fri 02-Oct-20 10:19:45

It's very hard to summon up any sympathy for this man - all these months he's been deriding the science and making fun of Biden for wearing a mask, implying that it was a 'cissy' thing to do. And all those rabble-rousing speeches to crowds who were totally ignoring guidelines/laws.

In the early days he was almost gleeful when he thought Mitt Romney had tested positive.

anna7 Fri 02-Oct-20 10:20:21

Nobody is saying Trump isnt a repulsive, nasty man. It's still just wrong to be pleased if he has contracted a nasty, potentially fatal, illness. I don't see what's 'sanctimonious or holier than thou' about that.

grandtanteJE65 Fri 02-Oct-20 10:22:05

If he has the virus, it serves him right.

But does he? Or is he drumming up sympathy before the election?

lemongrove Fri 02-Oct-20 10:23:58

I don’t think so MawB there are too many people involved for there to be any fraud around the Covid issue.Remember how posts on GN questioned the same thing when Johnson was ill ( as if all the nurses and doctors and ICU staff were in on it!) It would be leaked in all cases if it wasn’t genuine.
Besides, the American public ( and Trump in particular) see failing health as a weakness in a leader, which is why Trump always uses the ‘sleepy Joe’ insult to Biden.
Like Prince Charles, he may recover fairly easily, but he also may become seriously ill, and what will happen to the election then? I had hoped Biden would win the Presidency in November.

Callistemon Fri 02-Oct-20 10:29:48

Poor Melania. Get well soon.
?

Callistemon Fri 02-Oct-20 10:32:50

Lucca

When he gets better wait for “the doctors said I was the best they’d ever seen at beating the virus, nobody knows more about the virus than me, they said I was a tremendous patient”.

I didn't laugh when I heard he had the virus as I wouldn't wish it on anyone (well, that's not strictly true) but that made me laugh!

Craicon Fri 02-Oct-20 10:33:29

Not convinced it’s true.
Seems like a handy way to get out of attending any more disastrous Presidential debates. He will have seen how catching Covid and being in hospital helped Johnson get the sympathy vote.
I also think Bolsonarno used it as a convenient excuse to avoid too much international scrutiny in Brazil.

Hope Melania’s ok though.

suziewoozie Fri 02-Oct-20 10:36:57

As Melania once famously wore ‘I really don’t care. Do U?’

Anniezee Fri 02-Oct-20 10:37:45

Proves that there is a God - and that He isn't Trump!

Lucca Fri 02-Oct-20 10:38:23

I never questioned whether Boris was ill but I would definitely not be surprised if MawB were correct.
