Sorry, I must be a terrible person but this news started my day with a smile. ???

JenniferEccles Fri 02-Oct-20 13:51:55

Isn’t it possible to not like a public figure very much, yet still not delight in the news he is ill?

With the exception of a number of murdering despots in power around the world I still wouldn’t take pleasure in any world leader’s illness.

I don’t like Jeremy Corbyn but if we heard that he had succumbed to covid I wouldn’t be on here expressing my delight.

If that attitude makes me sanctimonious then so be it.

Gwyneth you are absolutely right when you made the point about how there would be a massive outcry at these nasty comments if Trump were black or Asian.

flump Fri 02-Oct-20 13:53:29

quizqueen You have made it clear that you are an extreme right-winger, even going so far as to say you would rather just have the Republicans and the Conservatives. So not a fan of democracy then? For you, it seems, an authoritarian leadership is one you prefer. I do wonder if you are living in the right country? Trump has done many things, mostly to the detriment of the ordinary Americans. Not to worry though, businesses can thrive on fewer regulations and make more money, pay less taxes and, really, who gives a damn about anyone else as long as they are ok?!

You've all made very nasty comments in the main so shouldn't expect any sympathy if you or anyone of your family or friends get covid too. Perhaps you'd like to read about all the things the Trump administration has achieved in the last 4 years.

How do we know that this isn't 'fake news'?

Grammaretto Fri 02-Oct-20 14:00:46

I have to admit it isn't my biggest worry today. He'll no doubt recover and his skin is too thick for the virus to penetrate.
His wife and Aide on the other hand.....

How do we know that this isn't 'fake news'?

We don’t.

Watching CNN, they are talking about how Trump has lied consistently about his health and that he must come clean now.

Lucca Fri 02-Oct-20 14:02:30

Who is expressing delight ?
I don’t feel sympathy, that’s different. I feel sympathy for those who contracted the Virus even after taking care.

Just talking to couple of friends who also think there’s something fishy here either with or without his knowledge I reckon after his embarrassing behaviour at the “debate” his aides want him out of the public eye for a while.
Then he can pop back up miraculously with extra sympathy votes.....

Luckygirl Fri 02-Oct-20 14:02:48

It's very hard to summon up any sympathy for this man - all these months he's been deriding the science and making fun of Biden for wearing a mask, implying that it was a 'cissy' thing to do.

I would not wish this virus on anyone; but my sympathy lies with the people who may have been infected by his refusal to take the pandemic seriously and who have acted on this and paid the price. And with all those people who are downtrodden by his vile attitudes.

He is a despicable person, and, whilst rejoicing in him being ill is not appropriate, many people do not feel particularly sad - he has blood on his hands in this pandemic.

I believe he is clinically mentally ill and should be debarred from standing in the election.

GillT57 Fri 02-Oct-20 14:05:03

Trump sneers at others, refuses to wear a mask unless he considers it politically expedient to do so, has likely caused thousands of infections at his rallies of his supporters who are, in the main, without masks, so no, I won't be praying for his recovery, I am sure he will manage this himself, and will claim it is with God's help. My sympathies are for those bereaved due to this man's boorish and selfish behaviour, but this does not translate into cheering that he has the infection, mainly because I know he will likely use it to his advantage.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 02-Oct-20 14:07:05

CNN are saying that a Trump knew that his aid Hicks was positive but never the less he flew with her and others in the helicopter and carried out a close meeting with donors at which Hicks was also present.
They didn’t admit to the fact that Hicks was positive until later.
Goodness knows how many people they infected.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 02-Oct-20 14:08:39

This couldn’t have come at a worse time!!

Ramblingrose22 Fri 02-Oct-20 14:13:53

I wouldn't be surprised if Trump has the virus but recovers really quickly.

If that happens, I hope he will not go on to claim that he used some kind of discredited drug cure, that the virus is nothing to be concerned about and that the deaths figures have been greatly exaggerated.

Politics has enough liars and thoughtless risk-takers as it is. The SNP MP who may have infected many others is a good example.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 02-Oct-20 14:16:28

CNN

So the Trump camp has never had the grace to contact the Biden camp to advise them of Trumps positive result. In fact Trump has a medical duty to contact Biden, but he hasn’t.

Dr. on suggesting that if he is in fact showing symptoms which is being suggested he is, then it is likely that he has been positive for some days and given the testing regime in the WH he would have known.

humptydumpty Fri 02-Oct-20 14:19:54

It would align with his view on soldiers who died in combat if he recovers then calls those who died from Covid 19 'losers' - no, hold on a minute, he'd alienate voters...

Willow10 Fri 02-Oct-20 14:21:15

It said on the lunchtime news that Trump caught covid from his aide. Really? How do they know she didn't catch it from him?

I can't stand the man, never could. Boris said today that we all wish him well for a full recovery. He need not include me in that. His arrogance about the pandemic and his mocking of Joe Biden has come back to bite him. I'm not going to be a hypocrite just because it's caught up with him. As far as I'm concerned the less people like him in the world the better.

Good luck isolating with him Melania - you're going to need it.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 02-Oct-20 14:27:44

It is looking really bad, Trump knew he was infectious and yet he carried on without wearing a mask. No one has been advised who were in close proximity to Trump.

Chewbacca Fri 02-Oct-20 14:53:10

Trump is an odious man and no one in their right mind can think that he's been a successful POTUS; he's caused more misery, told more lies and created more problems than any other POTUS in living memory. I dislike Boris too; he's an ineffectual, deceitful twit. But I didn't rejoice when Boris got COVID because I know how terrible a disease it is. And I wouldn't wish it on Trump either; anymore than I would wish a deadly disease on any one of us. And if you would wish a deadly disease on someone, you need to take a good hard look at yourself because morally, you'd be no better than Trump.

mcem Fri 02-Oct-20 15:41:58

Schadenfreude I admit!

Alegrias Fri 02-Oct-20 15:51:47

Even with all the bizarre and unlikely things that have happened during the Trump presidency I would be very hard pressed to believe that all of this is just fake news. Given the Trumps' disregard for the protective measure that would stop them getting COVID, its hardly surprising if they have caught it. I might be proved wrong, of course.

Apparently there is a process the US can adopt when a candidate becomes ill or incapacitated during the election, but they've never had to invoke it before, so they don't know how well it would go. 2020, the year that keeps on giving.

suziewoozie Fri 02-Oct-20 15:57:02

I think there’s a difference between rejoicing and not giving a flying gig that he’s ill and believing that he’s brought it on himself. Like an injured drunk driver - wouldn’t rejoice but would not sympathise and would say serve you right.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 02-Oct-20 15:57:13

There was an American doctor on CNN who said that the three leaders who initially treated Covid with scant regard more so than any other leader and made poor decisions have all contracted covid. That’s Trump, Bolsonaro and Johnson.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 02-Oct-20 15:57:38

According to one of the news channels Mike Pence is going to have to isolate and Nancy Pelosi would be on standby.

I should imagine that a lot of Americans are unsettled by the current unprecedented situation.

Callistemon Fri 02-Oct-20 15:58:20

I think it's fake news.

Could be!

Seeking the sympathy vote?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 02-Oct-20 16:02:07

Americans say that they can’t trust the WH and are insisting that the doctors give a statement.

They have the same problem with a liar as we do. Won’t it be wonderful when we get leaders that have integrity, honesty, trustworthiness?
