Did this really happen or have I fallen down the rabbit hole?

Chewbacca Mon 05-Oct-20 14:35:12

Are you a Trump supporter by any chance roachwoman?

Sparklefizz Mon 05-Oct-20 14:35:14

Chewbacca

^There is a rumour that it was not him but one of his 'lookalike' stand-ins, which, from what I^ understand, he has many.

Dear God! There's more than one that looks like that? shock

I wondered if it was a stand-in. After all, there are only his eyes showing through darkened windows. Anyone can cover half their face with a mask and put on a blonde wig.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 05-Oct-20 14:41:56

I think that we are in danger of losing touch with reality here.

Ask yourself, would you have ever thought it normal for a covid patient who is hospitalised to leave the hospital go for a photo-op then return to his hospital bed?

Nothing is normal about this man, and I think the future will show just how abnormal he in fact is.

Well worth a listen

Wow. Such vitriol! I’m an American and I would never say such things about the leader of your country. You are free to say what you like, to be sure, but this is how you treat those who think differently? I guess I’ll just chalk it up to the typical liberal left.

Thank you. I consider it a compliment to be classed as liberal.

I’m not a particularly left wing person, in fact some on here might probably call me right wing. I’m actually a bit right of center, but I don’t like Trump. I’m sorry you find our remarks offensive, but surely you must realise that absolutely no normal person suffering from Covid19 would behave in such a manner. Our own PM, who is certainly not liked universally, kept complete isolation until he was taken into hospital, and from there he recuperated for several weeks. Surely that is how Trump should behave?

Growing0ldDisgracefully Mon 05-Oct-20 14:54:08

Of course he's going to recover....

roachwoman I agree that you do think differently but also that you name things differently. What does the term ‘liberal left’ mean to an American?

Ramblingrose22 Mon 05-Oct-20 15:11:07

It is striking how so many of the usual Gransnet Trump supporters are not posting today. Could it be because they realise that Trump has gone too far this time? Even one of the doctors at the centre where he is has described his drive-by as "insanity".

jaylucy is in good company when she has asked "Who in their right mind, when suffering from an infectious illness such as Covid would be leaving their house anyway ?"

The answer IMHO is simple - a narcissistic and desperate person.

Narcissistic because Trump can't cope without the attention of others. It must be hard for him knowing he can't get out there to campaign and knowing that Joe Biden can get out there and may get more attention than him.

Desperate because he worries that maybe, just maybe, he won't win the election.

roachwoman - there's free speech here, as you have acknowledged, so feel free to criticise our leader if you wish.

The posts criticising Trump are not criticising him purely because they think differently to him but also because of the effects of the things he has said and done. Examples would be his attitude to women and their right to have an abortion, his stated support for white supremacist groups which he then feebly tried to row back from, his support for the gun lobby and his denial of climate change to name a few.

Their views - which are shared by many - are based on what has been reported about what is happening to your country and they are entitled to worry about the effects of another four years of Trump not only on the US but on climate change and the balance of power in the rest of the world.

Quite the bunch of hateful hysterics on here aren’t you. The way some of you reacted to Urmstongran was unforgivable. How long do you think the world can stay on lock-down? We have to face reality at some point.

Arto1s Mon 05-Oct-20 15:20:26

roachwoman Thank you for your post also. I am an American citizen (British born). If the progressive Democrats get into power, this country will implode.

suziewoozie Mon 05-Oct-20 15:21:07

When the SNP MP’s behaviour endangered public health, there was across the board condemnation of her but sadly many RWers on GN ( with the odd exception) never ever ever criticise their own

Oh dear - oh dear. The truth hurts does it not

Pippa22 Mon 05-Oct-20 15:22:51

I certainly don’t wish Trump dead but I would like him to be a bit more affected than he obviously is at the moment. Just a few days when he is too ill to tweet, a short time in ITU just to get him concerned about himself would be just fine ! He isn’t out of the woods yet and the crucial period is still to come apparantly.

suziewoozie Mon 05-Oct-20 15:23:19

The world in lockdown? Really ?

maddyone Mon 05-Oct-20 15:29:39

How long the world can stay on lockdown, or not, is irrelevant to what Donald Trump did last night. He’s suffering from Covid19, but he left the isolation of his hospital bed/room and went out in a car simply to boost his own image. There can be no other reason. He may have put others at risk, even if they were wearing PPE. Enough medics who wore PPE have died to let us know that it’s not always a complete protection. However, why did Trump feel the need to do this? It must be because he can’t stand being out of the limelight. It’s the only reason I can think of, and it was irresponsible in the extreme. Actually words fail me to be honest. It’s just so stupid of him.

I’m going to see my elderly mother now. I can’t bear thinking about him any longer. I didn’t like him before, but now he disgusts me.

Parsley3 Mon 05-Oct-20 15:30:46

Are the progressive Democrats the same as the liberal left?
I would like to understand these terms.

Exactly ! Where ?

Aepgirl Mon 05-Oct-20 15:37:14

I think he is employing a body double if he really has Covid-19 badly enough to be hospitalised and on oxygen he certainly wouldn’t be well enough to go for a drive.
