Seeing how things have changed in the last week, I can't see how a Christmas lockdown can be avoided if as a country we are to avoid a huge spike in cases. Students home, grandparents in the mix, cold weather, lots of people from mixed houses together - seems like a perfect storm. I personally will now prepare for plan B, as had hoped that we could see different families in different days. In my heart of hearts I can't see this happening. Xmas pud for 2 it is.

FlyingHandbags you could well find that you'll be breaking the law if you proceed with your Christmas plans. You've confirmed that you live in the Glasgow area? Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed that on the 25th October, she is introducing a 3 tiered system, similar to the one in England, across all of Scotland, to try to inhibit the spread of COVID virus. Due to the high numbers of confirmed cases in your area, Glasgow is likely to be in either tier 1 or tier 2 and that will greatly restrict your ability to meet up with members of your family who don't live with you. Surely you don't want to run the risk of having your party dispersed by the police and the householder and family members fined do you?
Chewy, there is talk here of a tier 4, total lockdown. ☹️
The thought of no Christmas with family, is so upsetting. However, we all have to work together to beat this and follow the rules to the letter of the law.
It has truly been an awful year for all of us.
I'm in a tier 2 area Marydoll and that feels restricted enough! But I can see that we may all have to follow the temporary lockdown that Wales will implement on Friday. If that happens, so be it. As others quite rightly say, we've all had a miserable year one way or another and to go against scientific advice is selfish and foolish, so we'd better just do what's necessary.
Most posts mention Christmas Day, but there are twelve days to Christmas as far as I’m concerned. I’m pretty laid back about it since my husband died and if my dc are here, fab, if not it might be the first Xmas I get to see It’s a Wonderful Life, if it’s on?. I’ve moved from a big tree (unless my daughter is here and she does it, very professionally) to a small fake tree on a table, that’s ok too. I know it means a lot to my children, they still love the traditional Xmas day we have had over the years, but as a previous poster mentioned, the energy required for the full works takes some doing. It’s a magical time whatever happens.
It’s been said that there have been worse Christmases than one where we won’t be able to spend time with loved ones. I’ve had 2 exceptionally awful ones but had my family with me for support. I’ve no idea what we will do but we will see our DC and DGC even if we’re exchanging presents on the pavement in the rain!
I'm sorry for any offence or upset caused. The police won't get called as we will go in the back way where nobody will be seen and the neighbours don't interfere. The girl upstairs from the relatives had a large party for her daughter's birthday, quite blatantly, and not a word was said. I have been struggling to cope with lockdown so a family Christmas is my only light in the dark. We are all very very very very very careful with regards to Corona so we should be fine. It might all come to nothing anyway as I think Nicola Sturgeon knows she hasn't got a hope in hell of people following restrictions at Christmas. Best wishes to all. X
Also, I'm about an hour away from Glasgow. X
Stricter restrictions on meetings in indoor household settings will continue across Glasgow City, East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire, as reported cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in these areas continues to be higher than the Scottish average.
Unfortunately, that includes places within an hour's travel of Glasgow. ☹️
I don’t know what game you are playing FH but it’s probably best I don’t engage with it.
susiewoozie, I'm not playing any games... I could be knocked down by a bus and die just as I could die of Covid... x
FFS
Well yes flying handbag, if you went to Oxford Circus and ran out from the pavement just as four buses were approaching from different directions you might stand more chance of bei g hit by a bus.
But you won't be doing that, will you? Your Christmas plans are the equivalent.
Oh and you wouldn't be worrying about the bus driver, the passengers or the people who stayed on the pavement but got hit when the bus swerved to avoid you. ?
Illte is it worth the bother?
No. I know. And I'm drinking my camomile calming tea too. ?
Christmas here is normally frantic. Family and grandkids usually arrive from Asia to stay early December till early January. Bedlam but fabulous. Have cooked lunch for 14 last few Christmases. Hard work but great fun. Will obviously be much quieter this year so will be interesting to see how it goes. Thank goodness for technology and that we can all see and speak to each other.
I must put camomile tea on my grocery order, thanks for the reminder Illte.
It would be just one Christmas lockdown. We do as asked and hope to the best.
Why on Earth are people worrying about Christmas?Who knows where we will be then.
For the first time in very many years I have found myself unable to sleep and have got up and made a mug of tea.
All being well ,Friday will be my 80th birthday.
How will I be spending it?
Well hopefully I will be going with my husband to hospital where he has two appointments .
What will be my birthday meal?
I am not going to cook.
I plan to send out for fish and chips when we return.
Ubereats
Any cards and presents I may get will be opened in the evening hopefully.
When I hear people whinging about not seeing grandchildren for 6months ,it really gets my goat.
I keep thinking about that poor man whose wife and three of his children were killed in a car accident recently .
We should count our blessings.
polnan
well there is a lot of talk that "lockdowns" don`t work..
so I keep thinking,,, well what else can I do.... perhaps if only,
IF ONLY, everyone would obey, the social distancing etc.. there would be no need for lockdowns?
what do you think? I am not an unintelligent person, but this beats me!
polnan speaking as some one who is just starting to emerge from a 12 week lockdown I disagree with those saying lockdowns don't work.
I know our cases are nowhere as large as yours nor our population. I'm in Victoria Australia and we, through a stuff up by the Government with their quarantine supervision, have had a second wave break out. Our new cases rose to 723 on one day when the government placed strict lockdown restrictions on us. Now about 11 or 12 weeks later we are recording new case numbers in single numbers or as today zero. I have no doubt that without this lockdown we would have been facing much higher numbers. That is not to say I was happy about the lockdown but a case of needs must.
I’m bah humbug about Christmas so would be perfectly happy if it was cancelled. My children will give their children a great time whether I’m there or not!

I am expecting there to be a lifting of Tiers 2 and 3 in December to encourage greater spending for Xmas. Then, probably a lifting 'holiday' for the actual Christmas period (with an appeal for people to be 'careful' - like most are not the rest of the time_. Then, surprise, surprise increase infection rates causing imposing of Lockdown for January and February - all this government knows is this sort of In/Out hokey-cokey!!!
I agree with Franbern. There is not much hope of people complying with any sort of restriction on Christmas Day itself so its better to legitimise it. I fully expect a total or almost total lockdown in Jan/Feb. A small ray of hope is that due to extra extra infection control procedure in place for Covid-19 the 'usual' outbreaks of Norvirus in hospitals and care homes may be far less than in other years. Here's hoping for a vaccine in early 2021.
I think Nanny Drakeford is trying to save Christmas by cancelling Halloween and Guy Fawkes.
