Apologies if there’s already a thread on this but the story is apparently in Saturday’s Times and on Sky. Press briefing Monday, lockdown to start Wednesday with schools and universities staying openness. To last until December. Why is this being leaked on a Friday night? Confusion and chaos now for the weekend.

It will be interesting to see if there is the same compliance as last time. I have a feeling those who have followed rules will continue to do so,others will do as they like if they can get away with it! I find it frustrating when such news is leaked, hopefully people wont be stockpiling this weekend.
In March we had a vestige of faith in the government but since then it's hard to think of what they've succeeded at. Something needed doing but probably to little to late. I'm sure Johnson will dangle Christmas as an incentive.

To the people who are saying we should have co-operation across the three countries. Do you seriously think that the current government will do what is right for Wales or Scotland? They can't even do what's right for most of England. Do you think Johnson & co will listen to the governments of Wales and Scotland and consider their situation?

And Mollygo, the "I know how to do it better brigade" you talk of have never actually said that, assuming that you mean Scotland. But its a nice prop to lean on, that we are doing things just to be different. You might want to have a look at the graph I posted earlier that shows how much better Scotland is doing in controlling the rise than other countries. Might all go pear shaped tomorrow, of course, but I'll take my chances with our system rather than the chaos in other parts of the UK.

DC64- "just got rid of"?- is that how you feel about your kids who may be at risk of this disease thats claiming folks family members?!! And you "can't take anymore homeschooling of your 14 yr old?"!! (Who at that age mainly do it all online with peers/teachers anyway!) Its not like theyre 6 is it?!!! Words bl**dy fail me! Im ashamed that any parent would put these 'greivances' before the health/safety of their own offspring!angry

What I don’t get is that ’The lockdown will begin...(2/3 days hence) as if the virus will not be dangerous in the meantime. I was sickened to see young people in Nottingham dancing and hugging in the street with no masks or social distancing on the night before lockdown began - there was no sign of any attempt to stop or arrest any of them.

Should have gone into lockdown four weeks ago...

Daisymae Sat 31-Oct-20 11:01:12

No, I don't think that the government is capable of organising a national response. Doesn't mean to say that it should not have happened. If only there were some grown ups in the house.

“NEW: No 10 has launched official leak inquiry via cabinet sec after details of meeting btwn PM/Hancock/Sunak/Gove were leaked last night. No 10 had wanted to hold announcements until Monday and now having to change plans. There are some very furious people in govt this morning“

“It’s what happens when you have eroded trust inside and outside government. It’s what happens when you allow the GoveCummingsCain culture to take hold. It’s what happens when intelligent people think the prime minister and his team are not up to it.“

Now I'm scared. I never was before but somehow, this time, I'm worried. DH and I will lockdown without being told to.

Jane10 I feel the same I am quite scared this time and have no faith in the Government at all.
I will not be going out at all only to walk my little dog early morning or late evening when no one is around.
Does anyone know please will this lockdown that is expected make my hospital appointment due 19th Nov unable to go ahead ? It has been cancelled twice this year and getting quite serious now.

Nannan2 ????

There is no point stressing until we find out what will be happening in England.

PM and Government have made mistakes, all Countries are learning as they go and each Country has different demographics, different ways of policing and differing respect for authority.

SusieFlo Sat 31-Oct-20 11:08:21

Probably a bit late again but think it’s inevitable. All schools should be part time I think.

Theoddbird Sat 31-Oct-20 11:10:38

I am not sure why anyone should be surprised. This has always been on the cards. The government have been saying for a long time that it wont be discounted. It won't be the same as before in that schools will not be closed. I suspect that Universities will be online only though. Stay safe x

Wise words, GG13.

Omits01 Sat 31-Oct-20 11:16:22

One hopes not everybody will do that!

As Cabbie21 said!

Nannan2 and MawB2. That was uncalled for. DC64 was making light hearted comments - not to be taken too seriously.

Ellianne Sat 31-Oct-20 11:26:32

GG13 Well said! What will be will be.

FannyCornforth Sat 31-Oct-20 11:28:02

DC64 it was Dallas, not Dynasty
(Unashamedly misses pointsmile)

Jaxjacky Sat 31-Oct-20 11:33:25

I find the continuous ‘point scoring’ between parts of the UK and other countries rather wearing. I’ve see expats in France, earlier this year smugly congratulating the French government and pitying those in the UK. There are no ‘winners’ I don’t believe any head of state/government gets up every day planning death, I imagine many have trouble sleeping at all. They are all human beings, most with families, many personally touched by this horrendous virus, ‘be kind’ seems to have got lost.

Jane10 Sat 31-Oct-20 11:39:12

Jaxjacky hear hear.

Well put. Completely agree.

Daisymae Sat 31-Oct-20 11:41:38

The advice was to lockdown weeks ago but it was ignored. The death rates are predicted to be 4000 a day, according to the BBC this morning, if no action is taken. I think that we are beyond being kind to this government. All governments are struggling of course but this is an utter shambles.

Awesomegranny Sat 31-Oct-20 11:44:45

Not really how this will work with Wales coming out of their short lockdown. To make this work surely all of theUK needs to be under lockdown otherwise it won’t work.
Why half way through the week to start surely it’s better to kickstart on a weekend?
Not happy as I’ve booked a staycation in Cornwall for the week so looks like I will have to go home halfway through my break? first break since all this began all I want to do is walk on the beaches in pouring rain so hardly likely to catch anything. C’e sera sera

Whitewavemark2 Sat 31-Oct-20 11:45:31

All governments are struggling, but not all governments are making such a hash of things. Trump and Johnson are good at hash though.

Johnson is constantly behind the curve and tends to copy other government a few weeks too late. Whereas a government like Germany take speedy action and it shows in the numbers of deaths.

A National lockdown has been on the cards for several weeks, too many people like to think that Covid 19 has gone and everything is okay.
Where I live many do not wear face coverings or social distance. (smaller shops etc, near home) I do see many that wear face coverings in the larger supermarkets which I tend to shop from.
It is the only way to try and suppress the pandemic mainly for the N.H.S and hopefully the cancer patients will still get
treatment.
The shops will be horrific but we have done it before and we can do it again. I have daily briefings in my e-mails about covid 19 and my local area, it has said that from 2nd November they have employed 10 covid Marshals from 8am until 11pm who will work along side the police to make sure restrictions are kept to. That is better than the last lockdown and perhaps people will take things more seriously.
