Congratulations!! Whoever you are???

Alegrias2 Wed 09-Dec-20 16:31:06

Debating the whys and wherefores of vaccination is great when its remote and we are talking about theory and things that will happen in the future. We can all shout loudly about what we think - me just as loudly as others, I expect most people know what I think smile. But when push comes to shove, everybody will have to make up their own minds.

So EV I hope you come to the right conclusion for you. When you ring the surgery back, why don't you ask them what they think is right for you? Explain some of your concerns. Listening to ill-informed posts that go on about side effects and accountability is very dangerous and will only plant doubts that have no business being there.

Talk to your surgery EV, don't take advice from anybody on here. flowers

Is good to be able to say that I'm far too young (healthy 70) to be included in the first few vaccine groups. I think the first lady to be vaccinated looks so good because she's not grey haired, so I won't be stopping with the hair dye anytime soon.

Tweedle24 Wed 09-Dec-20 16:35:07

I would have volunteered to help with vaccinations but, I am not wanted, being 76.

I have lists of allergies but, although some of them have caused great discomfort, nothing causing anaphylaxis. I am more than happy to take a chance with the vaccine. I have just heard they are going to be using the local gym but, if the pharmacists are doing it, that would be my choice. That is where I go for flu jabs,

I live in Wales, have already had an invite for the vaccine as I work in social care, booked for 21st December....feeling a bit nervous now!

Callistemon Wed 09-Dec-20 16:39:39

EllanVannin - Covid is not now spreading thick and fast. Numbers are coming down

I don't think EllanVannin lives in Wales (could be wrong) but it is certainly on the increase in Wales Mimi

Alegrias, I agree with you. I have found some of the ill informed posts on here very unsettling.

As well as being critically vulnerable and immunosuppressed, I have had more than my fair share of allergic reactions, one of which landed me in the coronary care unit last year and another which extended my stay in hospital by a week after a hysterectomy.

The only person I will be taking my advice from are my clinicians. No-one on here should either be trying to persuade people to have or not have the vaccine. It's not helpful at all.

Mimi22 Wed 09-Dec-20 16:45:33

Just questions being asked Alegrias2 - no shouting loudly required! The more questions asked and answered, rather than swept away or dismissed as 'there's always one', 'anti-vaxxer' and all those other unpleasant tones the better. Debating can only be a good thing, it opens everyones minds to more than one point of view. No doubt the surgery have been told what to say, and we all know what that will be!

Please refrain from suggesting that my post is ill-informed. I am in no doubt that I am studying this subject at least as much as you, and certainly not less. Looks like we are studying in different areas and that's the sum of it. No matter what your conclusions may be, they have equal value to mine.

For me, it is senseless to inject toxins into my body. There is nothing in anything that I have read or heard that convinces me otherwise.

GreenGran78 Wed 09-Dec-20 16:48:18

My daughter was vaccinated today, but she’s not a Gran yet. I’m over 80, so should be called soon.

Alegrias2 Wed 09-Dec-20 17:01:00

So, I got told off a little while ago for explaining why random musings from people who are able to google things aren't the same as information from people who can actually properly do research, so I'm not falling for that again.

I'm not suggesting your post is ill-informed, I'm saying it plainly. If you decide not to have the vaccine, fair enough. But its unfair to try to influence people with sincere concerns.

Alegrias2 Wed 09-Dec-20 17:03:43

My last post aimed at Mimi22, obviously.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 09-Dec-20 17:08:36

I asked my DD about pharma accountability in the account of side effects further down the line.

Answer - none

Her reply

It would be treated by the NHS, same as any side effect. No one takes accountability for side effects. The argument for treatment would always be stronger than to not treat a person because of side effects. You can’t predict this, so there is no accountability. That’s why, in part, this country gives everyone an option.”

So it is our own risk. But with a safety net.

Mimi22 Wed 09-Dec-20 17:24:25

Wow Alegrias2!

If only you knew what you are talking about.

Casdon Wed 09-Dec-20 17:26:26

Mimi surely you have seen from the previous lockdowns and other measures taken that any effect on transmission of the virus is only temporary, and numbers rise exponentially as soon as the measures are relaxed. Wales is now heading for another crisis, and post Christmas England will be following.

The vaccine takes four weeks before it’s effective, by which point we are likely to be at peak again. So whatever your personal concerns about the vaccine it’s irresponsible to suggest to other people that they should delay - they should talk to their GPS, read all the information provided and make up their own minds.

Alegrias2 Wed 09-Dec-20 17:26:56

Oh dear......

Alegrias2 Wed 09-Dec-20 17:27:27

To Mimi22 again, obviously.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 09-Dec-20 17:28:20

That is disgraceful. I’ve just heard that the rich countries have bought up 3 times more vaccine than they need. This leaves poor nations unable to vaccinate their population.

I utterly despair.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 09-Dec-20 17:31:55

Hopefully vastly wealthy individuals might step in and buy up vaccine for the poor, we clearly can’t rely on us to do the right thing.

It is shameful.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 09-Dec-20 18:02:09

That is disgraceful WWM2 hopefully when these countries have vaccinated their population they will donate vaccines to the poorest countries.

Unfortunately none of the vaccines are available to buy by private individuals, whatever their motives.

Sparklefizz Wed 09-Dec-20 18:28:56

This is no different to being prescribed drugs which give nasty side effects. My breast cancer drugs caused me to become hypothyroid and to develop osteoporosis - lifelong conditions, not a brief period of allergy.

Arto1s Wed 09-Dec-20 18:36:08

I would love to be the first, but as I live in the States there’s not much chance of that happening! Britain always leads the way. Well done.

I watched a webinar this afternoon organised by Zoe and the Covid-19 study App. There were 5 top scientists, vaccine specialists etc on the panel. It was really worth watching. It's on you tube if anyone wants to watch. I'll see if I can post the link here in a minute. After watching it I understand the safety procedure much better and feel sure it's safe. There were no bad reactions in any of the tens of thousands of volunteers and they tested it on all ethnicities, ages as well as people with allergies too.
Here's the link:

Also would suggest downloading the Zoe Covid-19 App if you have a smart phone. I've been reporting since early April every day - only takes a minute - which has helped hugely in the information on the virus already. The government also access the information to see where the virus is spreading or contracting.

Candelle Wed 09-Dec-20 19:53:45

Another vote for Zoe here.

If any succinct Covid information is wanted, the Zoe site is the place to go. Really interesting stuff.

Why not also join the nearly 4.5 million people in the UK who are participating in the Zoe tracking Covid programme. It takes a few seconds a day and you would be contributing to helping to stop Covid.

I don't have the relevant Zoe address but type in 'Zoe Covid Symptom Study and you'll find it.

When will we have the first vaccinated GN-er!

Pap67 Thu 10-Dec-20 09:50:31

Due mine in a few days. I work in healthcare. I’m exited to receive it.

Mimi22 Thu 10-Dec-20 12:59:13

Curious about Brandy Vaughan, Alegrias2 - or doesn't it fit your narrative?

grannysyb Thu 10-Dec-20 13:38:56

My stepdaughter is a consultant aneathsatist in charge of intensive care in a hospital in East London. She spoke to her father last night and said that more people are being admitted with covid and that deaths are rising, despite what Mimi22 says. She is waiting for her vaccination which hopefully will arrive soon.
