Hi there everyone
I've not posted before but felt so fed up today I'm hoping to use the hive mind to improve my mood.
I'm approaching 60, single parent for the last 15 years after a long unhappy marriage. Currently I'm working 5 short days a week in a stressful health care role, whilst caring for my elderly parents, mum is terminally ill with breast cancer, and my 2 adult DC at home because they are ASD.
I have been really careful with Covid precautions and have successfully worked through all the lock-downs to keep our very vulnerable patients in the unit free from this virus.
I was tested at work as usual on Friday and tested negative. Started to feel increasingly unwell over the weekend so got a drive through test on Sunday and was notified by text that I was positive on Monday morning.
I feel pretty grim, bad cough, aches and fatigue, hoping that the vaccination I had 10 days ago will mean that avoid a hospital admission.
My problem is that I am really annoyed about catching this, I have a background studying microbiology and have taken all precautions possible whilst continuing to work and care for my family.
I'm fuming with people who don't wear masks, my neighbours are still having parties every Friday and in the supermarket locally I have seen staff members not wearing masks (I'm aware they may have a health exemptions) but what about the gangs of teenagers hanging around on the streets? The people who wear masks incorrectly?,
I have potentially risked the health of all my colleagues and patients (hopefully the PPE will help prevent any transmission)
Cheer me up Gransnetters please any funny stories greatly appreciated or cat photos are equally acceptable 2 of my terrors are attached.

I love your Siamese.
We’ve had two in the past
One was a blue point and the other a chocolate point
Below is a painting by numbers photo of a Siamese.

MayBee70 Tue 19-Jan-21 14:01:47

....and you haven’t risked other people’s health because you took every precaution possible. It’s just rotten bad luck. x

I do hope that you'll be feeling better soon! I suppose we all notice those who aren't following the rules because they stand out from the majority of us who are following the rules to the letter. You sound a lovely, kind person, and I'm saying a prayer for you right now. Want to know something really sad? The most exciting thing that's happened today has been unblocking our shower tray! Yeah! Doesn't get much more exciting than that... xx

Oh, your cat is a Birman is it not? I don’t have cats any more but I always wanted a Birman.

Foxyferret Tue 19-Jan-21 13:46:02

Not fair is it. Hope you feel better soon. No cats here but a picture of Dexter, one of our four labs.

GreyKnitter Tue 19-Jan-21 13:43:12

Sorry. Couple of typos. Do enjoy the cats and their photos.

GreyKnitter Tue 19-Jan-21 13:41:00

So sorry to hear about your test and that you’re feeling poorly. Look after yourself while you recover no enjoy the cat and per photos. The photo is of our two 10 months half Bengal cats. The male is a very gentle chap whilst his sister is much more feisty!

I wish you well and better soon. I hope you have someone to look after you. Yes, it's so frustrating and anger making to think of all those who won't take part in the restrictions.
What a lovely thread you have caused to happen. All those lovely cat and pet pictures. I used to have cats but not now. Am living in a first floor flat and it's just not practical to have cats.
I was watching 24 hours in A&E last night and a relative of a patient told a nurse that she was an angel. The nurse replied "Oh no! I'm too fat to be an angel. I'd need an enormous pair of wings". It made me laugh. She was delightful with the patients.
Try to concentrate on getting yourself better. Between the lines of your post I read that you are worrying about everyone but yourself. I so hope you feel better soon.

I am so sorry you are ill and I hope you have a very light dose of this awful virus, particularly as you have had the jab.

If you have a very broadminded, ribald sense of humour, I prescribe this video. The subject matter is extremely risqué but the newscasters send me into hysterics every time I listen to it.

Hi, life isn’t fair is it. Please stay strong. Not a funny story as such but my three yr old grandson who we childminder part time was rubbing his face at lunchtime. We
Hen asked why he says there are bugs on my face, I can’t see any Alex do you mean germs(he has been told about COVID and why he needs to wash his hands and not touch things when in shops), he said no Nana germs are too small for anyone to see I mean bugs like flu bugs.. not garden bugs. Language is very complicated when you are 3.

Bless you. The unexpected thing that happen in other people's home thread is hilarious.
Interesting.that you have it after the vaccine - as I thought was going to happen sorry to hear you're feeling poorly.

I feel people think they're immune after one jab - which is not what was stated originally. But will protect the nhs.

Hope you start feeling better soon.x

Thank you all so much for the support, I love all the photos ❤️ I just spoke with work and our Admin said I should have a whisky toddy, I replied "I can't taste anything so it'd be a waste of whisky ' but I then counter with" well since I can't taste maybe this is the perfect opportunity for me to use up the alcohol that I don't like?' Bless her she thought that was funny. My absence is increasing her workload along with the 2 other managers but they've been really supportive, even saying they will food shop for my parents which nearly had me in tears. I had to say' please don't be nice to me I will cry" I'm not usually given to tears so I wonder if others have felt the same?

ReadyMeals Tue 19-Jan-21 13:14:03

Sorry to hear you have it sad If you had to guess, where do you think you got it from?

Alioop Tue 19-Jan-21 13:11:00

Hope you are feeling better soon. I understand the frustration you have cos I'm the same. I take care if I've to nip out for fresh stuff and the ones without masks, the others who just walk past the sanitiser stations and don't do their hands, etc drive me bonkers. Take it easy and look after yourself.x

My daughter is a frontline nurse, who had her first vaccination, and 5 days later caught Covid19. She thinks she caught it off a patient, but who knows? She has been isolating for 10 days (as has her husband, who also had it) and she is now back in work.

I hope you recover very quickly, because where would we be without people like you.

Justanotherwannabe Tue 19-Jan-21 12:44:47

How rotten to have caught the dreaded lurg. Hopefully you won't have it as badly as some because those antibodies must be getting stronger.
