Now that we are well into the vaccine rollout in the UK I thought it might be interesting to have a thread to discuss it and how its going.

Friend of 70 just texted she booked her and her husband’s jab online at Stockley Park GC without any notice from doctor. Have been given second jab timetable. Surely this isn’t correct! Scam, queue jumping ! I’m confused!

73 in Wales and no vaccine yet. ?

lemongrove Fri 29-Jan-21 11:01:44

Had ours a week ago, felt rather more tired than usual for three days or so, but no other ill effects. It was the Pfizer vaccine.

Witzend Fri 29-Jan-21 10:59:54

Had my first dose - the AZ - this morning, and am very grateful.
It was done in a big centre - part of the university (SW London) and was IMO extremely well organised.

Here in Anglesey under the Betsi Cadwaladr HB no letter yet. Friends over eighty have had jab but don’t know anyone under eighty who have even had an appointment never mind the jab itself.
Glad for other areas but wish things would move forward here too,
Great that our UK government had the foresight to order plenty from various sources and hope any surplus goes to poorer countries in desperate need.

Near Brighton - aged 75 having Pfizer on Sunday?

Parsley3 Fri 29-Jan-21 10:48:31

Where in Scotland are you Jane?I am in the Central Belt. My friends received their appointment letters on Monday and all of the front line workers and care home residents that I know have already been vaccinated. You need to check what is happening in your local area.

I'm 71 and having my jab on Sunday. South West.

Oh, I understood from the 10 o'clock news last night that the Novovax (suddenly appeared out of the blue?) vaccine is not actually 'approved', but ready for the approval process, which takes several weeks. Or have I got this wrong?

But surely I'm right that the Oxford-Astrozenica vaccine was first tested predominantly on under 65s and had to undergo some extra tests for efficacy on over 65s which were necessarily less widely based and not tested over so long a period.

So I think that there has been a bit of sleight of hand with the figures, as with the Pfizer delay with the 2nd dose, in order to justify getting the first jab to as many as possible to as many as possible.

We are Kent/ London borders

silverlining48 Fri 29-Jan-21 10:33:39

We are still waiting 74 and 72. Looked online and you can’t book unless you have had a letter....
Made worse because everyone (!) seems to have had theirs.

nanasam Fri 29-Jan-21 10:19:52

We're having ours today!!!! Whooppeeeeeee!!!

Brendawymms Fri 29-Jan-21 10:18:25

Our local vaccine guardian has said if you are over 70 you could go on line and book a slot for the jab at a local hub you didn’t have to wait for a letter.
My husband was called for his jab by vaccine coordinator and had his jab a week before the letter arrived.

I don't understand how it can be so slow up here. There are venues, vaccinators and vaccine. Why can't we go faster? We're all just sitting around waiting while politicians talk and talk.

overthehill Fri 29-Jan-21 09:42:01

Had mine the other day live in London and I'm 73. I am also allergic to penicillin but had no side effects thankfully although a friend did have itching in places and felt very tired for a day

Kandinsky Fri 29-Jan-21 09:31:40

Yes very excited smile

Does anyone know how long the vaccine lasts?

Urmstongran Fri 29-Jan-21 09:24:36

Read deeper Franbern. You will then be reassured. x

Urmstongran Fri 29-Jan-21 09:23:05

Or hopefully excited Kandinsky?

Franbern Fri 29-Jan-21 09:22:06

Urmstongran

Fake news farview.

Not fake news, Urmstongran.
German scientists have come to that conclusion. They used same data as used by UK scientists, but have come to a different conclusion.
No idea which is more correct

Kandinsky Fri 29-Jan-21 09:18:47

I’m not due mine until around April apparently ( I’m 57 ) but with all the new vaccines coming out I’m getting more & more confused.

Esspee Fri 29-Jan-21 09:17:11

I’m in Glasgow Jane10 and all the 70+ I know have appointments for early February.

Alegrias1 Fri 29-Jan-21 09:14:35

Neither of the online calculators are anything to do with the official rollout, they were just put together by a commercial company and are based on a simple algorithm and the number of people in the same group as you. I wouldn't put any faith in them, they change all the time.
It doesn't mean the rollout has slipped by 2 months. Going by your forecast date you're the same group as me and DH. According to the government plan we've always been expecting the end of April for the first jag.

Jane10 Fri 29-Jan-21 09:05:44

Alegrias yes this prediction was on the Scottish online vaccine calculator.

Alegrias1 Fri 29-Jan-21 09:01:50

I'm wondering Jane10 if this is based on the online vaccine calculator? I've seen a few people saying recently that their forecast date had changed.

Jane10 Thu 28-Jan-21 22:34:45

Well I've just heard that my vaccine date has been moved back from end Feb to end April. Wish Scottish vaccine roll out was as well organised as England's. angry
