I know, it has gone beyond a joke. How can anyone defend them whilst moaning about their next door neighbour who chatted to his daughter on the drive. I try not to post about politics but this is getting idiotic

I was thinking of a way round this .... I could contact an Estate Agent in Spain to ostensibly view a few properties and spend two weeks in May in an apartment in the sun at the same time.

Two tier “entitlement” rules again.
No-one should be going abroad then coming back. If people do go to “prepare” their second homes then only one person not the whole family for a jolly. Folk with caravans in storage in the uk haven’t been permitted to visit said caravans to check for mice infestation, damp etc so why should second home people in France be permitted. Oh yes I’m sorry I do apologise it is only the plebs holiday homes which don’t matter.

That’s because there’s a very big may and no earlier than in every single date and every single step of the road map. It’s all dependent on very particular conditions being met.

But the first date when foreign travel may be allowed, according to the BBC site I linked to, is 17 May, not 30 June as stated in the OP.

Maggiemaybe The 30th June date was released yesterday. The fine for travelling abroad today without good reason, has gone up to £5,000. Plus the cost of quarantine.

Could you give a link to the information re 30 June, M0nica? The one in the OP doesn’t refer to it, and as I say, the BBC says that planned dates haven’t changed, though a £5000 fine has indeed been introduced.

If you live in Dubai and want to visit the U.K. just go via Athens. Then you don’t have to quarantine here.
I don’t know the specifics but my ‘bubble’s’ son has just returned that way for Easter.

^Although the new laws won't expire until 30 June, Health Secretary Matt Hancock suggested foreign holidays could be allowed before that date.

He told Sky News a government review of international travel - the results of which are due next month - would decide whether to allow Britons to holiday abroad from 17 May. This is the earliest date from which ministers are considering allowing foreign travel without a reasonable excuse, as previously set out in the prime minister's roadmap for easing lockdown rules.

"The questions of whether people will be able to travel abroad this summer are going to be addressed by the Global Travel Taskforce, which is reporting around 12 April," Mr Hancock told Sky News.

“The roadmap sets out the earliest date by which we will allow for international travel - without one of the clear reasons you need now - is 17 May.

"That has not changed. The way we're putting that into law is as part of these roadmap regulations that will be voted on on Thursday. "They come to an end as a whole at the end of June. But that doesn't change the timings for these questions on international travel."^

Going back to the original post, I thought holidays, both here and abroad, were illegal since January until 17th May. And I thought the date had now been extended until 30th June, for foreign holidays, but holidays here are still allowed from 17th May.
Am I right?

I think self catering holidays in the UK are allowed from 12th April? Provided it is only one household.
That must mean caravans and campsites?

I’m not sure why holiday homes have this exception, maintenence and servicing is normally contracted out to local agents to supervise. In any case any work can be supervised remotely for a few months, weddings and funerals can be viewed remotely as well and are not essential travel in my book.
If only these rules had been put in place a year ago like Australia and NZ did it would have save tens of thousands of lives - we had the choice.
