I think he looks really poorly...stressed? ...long covid?.....

GrannyGravy13 Thu 25-Mar-21 07:16:25

I totally agree with you LauraNorder , he looks broken being a PM is tough at the best of times, he is PM during exceptional times with absolutely no respite.

Who would want the poisoned chalice of a world leader...

vegansrock Thu 25-Mar-21 07:59:25

Well Johnson wants the job or he wouldn’t be in it, whether he’s up to it is a matter of opinion.

Perhaps this accounts for Johnson bumbling, hesitating, getting his facts wrong , inability to answer questions directly, or is that how he is usually?

It’s how he is usually - for example getting his facts wrong, he’s been sacked twice for lying and that was quite sometime ago. There are multiple examples of his bumbling, hesitating , inability ( or unwillingness) to answer questions long before now- the Eddie Mair interview is a classic and even his best friends acknowledge that he’s not one for mastering detail.

Iam64 Thu 25-Mar-21 08:38:04

He does look worn out. He’s had a serious dose of Covid and his home / personal life must add to the pressures of being PM at this challenging unpredictable time. Feeling sympathy for all of this doesn’t transform him into a national treasure. The use of his first name is one of the classic ways of somehow assuming the nation sees him as a friend.
I see him as someone with an established track record as a man who lies easily and convincingly, whether in professional or personal life. He’s shameless in that respect and blusters on, deflecting, avoiding or being disingenuous when challenged. We see it at PMQs as well as on the rare occasions an interviewer has the opportunity to question him.

Yes he’s working in particularly demanding times. He isn’t alone in that and he did apply for the job.

BlueBelle Thu 25-Mar-21 08:40:39

He’s been out of his depth since he bumbled his way into the post without the qualifications and unfortunately like all under qualified egotists who believe they are completely able he is probably suffering now but he would never believe that was his fault
He had poor educational reports, has not been well thought of in his career in journalism and lied his way through various wives girlfriends and babies and now has caused this country to be much maligned and laughed at by most of the world
He is just what it says on the jar an untidy, bumbling, egotist whose bumbled his way into a hole and taken us all with him

Galaxy Thu 25-Mar-21 08:43:35

Not only did he want the job he has spent his entire life campaigning and manipulating in order to gain the position.

Sarnia Thu 25-Mar-21 08:48:52

He had a severe case of Covid-19, has a fiancee who likes to get her way, a young son, a dog who isn't house trained, a Dad who likes to bend the rules and this all before he gets to grips with the political problems facing him each day. No wonder he looks cream crackered.

JenniferEccles Thu 25-Mar-21 08:52:49

This last year has certainly taken its toll on him, as it would on anyone who has been through the same.

Even if he hadn’t been so seriously ill with covid, the strain and workload of the previous year would have taken its toll.
Then of course there is a young baby thrown into the mix, joyous though that obviously was.

He has had some appalling decisions to make over the year, knowing full well that he would be dammed by some quarters whichever way he went.

I think we should all be grateful and wish him well, which, apart from a few exceptions, most on here do.

A very reasonable post.

Angela Merkel been in her job for umpteen years and has been a stabilising influence , whether or not you agree with her politics, hats off to her. She is resigning soon unlike our own dear leader.

Boris knew nothing about the science of covid. He probably did think it was just slightly worse than flu in the beginning. Lots did and a few idiots still do. Merkle is scientist and certainly should have got her act together re the vaccine. She has also cast doubt on the AZ vaccine too.

Calendargirl Thu 25-Mar-21 09:42:28

Our vaccination programme success isn’t being laughed at by the world. I know Boris was not responsible for this, that is down to others, but he is still the overall face of it.

Chewbacca Thu 25-Mar-21 10:31:23

Polarbear so far you have alluded to Boris Johnson being a drug addict and an alcoholic; could you provide evidence of this please? You have also said He’ll be disappearing again soon for a couple of weeks to get clean again.
Please could you support this statement with details of the times that he has been in a drug or alcohol dependency unit to "get clean"? A link to a verifiable source would do. If you're unable to support your statement, you might like to ask GNHQ to remove your posts as, if untrue, they'd be considered slanderous.

BlueSky Thu 25-Mar-21 10:32:27

Obviously you either love or hate ‘Boris’ and I love him, love his bumbling, love his unruly blond mop! grin

henetha Thu 25-Mar-21 10:35:35

I feel sorry for Boris actually. He always wanted to be Prime Minister apparently, and he got landed with this!
Yes, he does look done in lately.

Chewbacca Thu 25-Mar-21 10:41:08

Personally BlueSky, I don't like the man or his politics one little bit and will be happy when he's no longer our PM. But I dislike spreading fake news lying to discredit someone with whom you disagree, just because you can and you think you can get away with it.

BlueSky Thu 25-Mar-21 10:43:17

Well said Chewbacca! ?

trisher Thu 25-Mar-21 10:45:18

There was someone on Radio 4 the other morning discussing what has appened to politics today. He thought that our communication/media situation has produced politicians who are masters of the short statement, the tag line, the slogan, but who lack any real political depth. What happens when they achieve power is that they are completely unable to deal with any of the requirements of the job. Boris personified! Of course he looks worn out.

Don't love him, don't hate him. He's the Prime Minister, I'd like to respect and trust him but unfortunately that's not possible given his inability to do the job he has so long aimed to have.

Great post Iam64.

Lucca Thu 25-Mar-21 10:47:49

Calling his hair an “unruly mop”is also intended to make him seem lovable !

Beckett Thu 25-Mar-21 10:49:18

To all those criticising Boris (especially Polarbear with their libelous post) can I ask if you think you could do better?

Everyone full of the things he has done wrong (in their opinion) but how many actually do anything other than sit behind their computer keyboard and criticise. How many serve on their local Council, Town or even Parish council.

It is easy to criticise when you don't have the full details - none of us a privy to the advice and information he is receiving

Maybe more to do with ‘retiring’ (she’s 66y) rather than ‘resigning’?? Boris is only 55y after all.

Alegrias1 Thu 25-Mar-21 10:55:20

can I ask if you think you could do better?

I didn't stand for the position and think I was the best person for the job of PM of a country. He did.

No excuses.

I actually think he's done better since Cummings left, maybe he's getting better advice. He still has his trademark "twinkling eyes" tell when he's lying, though.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 25-Mar-21 10:59:09

Angela Merkel has backtracked over Germany’s Easter lockdown, despite Covid cases rising nationwide as it was “unpopular” ?
