Anyone watching live? Wow, just wow.

Lucca Fri 28-May-21 11:03:11

Oh this non stop “hindsight” defence.

A lot of things were known before and yet monumental dithering went in because some were too obstinate to ,listen.

Only have seen the clips shown on the news and I am not surprised at the venom he's spouting!
He managed to work his way into a job, that he was not qualified for, where he thought he'd be able to influence other people.
I am not a Boris fan by any means, but seeing how other countries have handled , and are still dealing with, the pandemic, and the information that was available at the time, that has changed on a daily basis, only history will be able to tell who was right or wrong.

Buffy Fri 28-May-21 11:14:04

I don’t mind listening to him but he’s the most unattractive man to watch.

MayBee70 Fri 28-May-21 11:15:29

There was information available at the time. As Cummings said we only had to look to Eastern countries to see how they were handling the pandemic. And the argument that social scientists said that the people in this country would revolt against similar measures was unfounded. A scientist on tv last night said they didn’t say that. I knew that the virus could be spread asymptomatically so why did the government claim to not know it?

He's a slippery, self-serving little weasel. I don't disbelieve him but I despise what seems to be an attention-seeking, bitter bid at revenge. It's not exactly being done for the greater good, is it?

Rowena48 Fri 28-May-21 11:36:31

Pinch of salt comes to mind.......

granto2 Fri 28-May-21 11:38:18

Totally agree Lucca, a bunch of self serving liars. ?

Coco51 Fri 28-May-21 11:38:37

He did not do himself any favours

earnshaw Fri 28-May-21 11:38:59

I do not believe a word that man says , especially after his performance travelling early on in the pandemic, many said Boris should have sacked him then, he didnt, what happens now, the worm has turned, who needs friends like him. nasty man

Happysexagenarian Fri 28-May-21 11:39:03

I agree with Smileless2012. Cummings is dishing the dirt simply because he was caught breaking the rules and had to pay the price. I've no sympathy for him.

Annaram1 Fri 28-May-21 11:40:54

If he was testing his eyesight on that infamous trip to Barnard Castle he was aware he had possibly bad eyesight so he should have gone to the opticians before setting out. Silly man. and a liar to boot. And weird looking, like a new born baby. He criticises Boris but would he have done better in Boris's place?
You've probably guessed I do not like the man.

Aepgirl Fri 28-May-21 11:42:29

I wouldn’t give that creep air time. He’s a cheat and a liar.

catta5 Fri 28-May-21 11:45:49

As a Civil Servant did he not sign the official secrets act when he left last year so why is he spouting now seems like sour grapes Actually i feel sorry for Boris he is issuing guidelines(that are not being kept to) help the economy and lockdown on the other side Cummings did wrong what a load of rubbish he spoke to justify himself going North

growstuff Fri 28-May-21 11:49:30

I could be wrong but I don't think SPADs are civil servants.

growstuff Fri 28-May-21 11:51:53

Johnson must have known the truth at the time, so why didn't he sack him then? I doubt if many people would have shed tears about the sacking.

Sympathy for him isn't the issue. The issue is whether he's right with his claims.

You feel sorry for Boris ???

Lucca Fri 28-May-21 11:57:05

“ And weird looking, like a new born baby.”

Wow.

I don’t like the man, but what he looks like is not the issue, if he proves Boris to be incompetent and dishonest

Cambia Fri 28-May-21 11:57:14

Just what is he saying that we didn’t already know? I would have rather more respect for him if he wasn’t so nasty about everyone else. After all he was a major part in the decision taking at the time.

PippaZ Fri 28-May-21 12:01:52

There is a law which both sets out (and therefore limits) what is an official secret and we are all obliged to keep it - just as we are all obliged not to murder or steal. "Signing" is only to remind someone of that law. I doubt that telling a Parliamentary Committee that Hancock lied would come under this.

Just because a person has lied does not mean every utterance is a lie. This is why we need an immediate inquiry. The proper authority needs to find out if there is any proof to back up what Cummings says or not.

We can have a personal opinion of the man but we do need the facts exposed to the daylight.

cupcake1 Fri 28-May-21 12:04:34

Cummings is bitter and twisted and out for revenge and it’s not a pleasant trait. I don’t believe a word of what he says look how he betrayed the country amid the lockdown with the whole Barnard castle thing. There were a few porkies in that interview. Before you all start jumping down my throat I don’t believe Boris either he’s obviously made a lot of mistakes which has cost many lives and not shutting our borders earlier was unforgivable but would it be different if someone else was in charge? We’ll never know. Politics no matter which party will always have unscrupulous and self serving politicians history has taught us that. Just to reiterate I don’t trust or believe of any
them apart from the scientists.

I agree but perhaps not everyone offering an opinion keeps track of what is going on - I have learned.

I don't think we have to respect a witness do we? That's what he was and all that he said has to be proved. He said he would send the relevant paper work; we shall see.

Midwifebi6 Fri 28-May-21 12:05:48

I really don’t think it will make any difference at the next general election what Cummings said or the lies that Johnson or Hancock tells or told, with the majority Johnson has he will win power again. I have always been a Labour voter but I could not vote Labour with the likes of Diann Abbott and kier Starmer, she tries to stir up racial tensions and calls for the police to be defunded and Starmer taking the knee and banging on about BLM.
Look on YouTube

For the truth.

Nothing new under the sun - just a rather weak man feeling guilty and out for revenge- Boris wasn’t elected for his attention to detail or exemplary morals etc - all people have flaws - just name a politician who hasn’t lied for instance- Gordon Brown may have been upright in many ways and perhaps Teresa May - but were they charismatic and successful leaders - hardly ? We elect human beings to organise various things in our lives then surprise surprise- they turn out to be just like us - imperfect and flawed. We are a very crowded island so highly likely to be affected badly by a pandemic - over the years we should have made better preparations but we didn’t. I had Covid in March/April 2020 - and while watching politicians at those talks - they were clearly terrified - Matt Hancock was white with fear. I wonder who, in our liberal democracy , would have performed better? Dominic Cummings, in my opinion, did get one thing right - his praise for Rishi Sunak and Patrick Valance. Heigh ho - hindsight is a wonderful thing.
