Let us hope that Johnson has finally learned some lessons.

Professor Sir Tim Gowers is giving out strong warnings that Johnson should think seriously about the proposed plan for lifting the final lockdown restrictions on 21 June.

Given Johnson’s track record to date where every lockdown has been too late, resulting in tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths, let us hope that he is listening.

He hasn’t so far.

His obesity contributed to him being seriously ill with covid. And what happened to his intention to make the nation slimmer and healthier after his damascene moment? Did anything come of it or was it another one of his empty promises.

Just exactly how is BJ supposed to make the nation slimmer? He’s not pushing pizza and doughnuts down their throats is he? BJ is slimmer because he’s clearly make a effort to become slimmer, although I suspect Carrie may have had something to do with it.

Well, I’m pretty sure he said he was going to do something. Jamie Oliver tried to improve the eating habits of schoolchildren but Teresa May didn’t you even meet up with him. From what I remember he was pretty upset at the time albeit always trying to be non political.

He announced it in July. Doctors were going to advise people to take up cycling etc. Can’t do a link.

I'm not going to learn how to ride a bike however much Johnson or a doctor tell me to, I think it is a bit late for that.

People have the right to make their own decisions. Give them the facts and figures, by all means, but then it is up to the individual. When I was a schoolgirl in the 50's there was no such thing as fast food and certainly not the choice of food outlets that there is today. The chippy was the only place for a takeaway and people didn't eat in the street in the way they do now. Any PM is going to have an uphill struggle to change eating habits that have become firmly entrenched for so many.

If people saw how processed foods changed the way their children's brains worked they would be truly shocked into change. See this groundbreaking programme:
