Anyone have any idea what time the pandemic ends on Monday?
Asking for a friend.
Morecambe and Wise - the lost tape
Recommendations please for thorn- and nettle-proof gauntlets – if possible vegan
Scientists have published a letter in the Lancet, saying that they have 5 main concerns over the governments plans for unmitigated infection.
I have taken this from John Campbell’s site.
First - disproportionately affecting children and young people
There are 17 million people with no covid protection.
Exponential growth will continue until millions more people are infected
This will leave hundreds of thousands of people with long term illness and disability
Risks leaving a generation with ill health.
Second - transmission in schools will lead to educational disruption.
There should be strict mitigation in schools and eventual vaccination of children.
Important for clinically vulnerable children and socially vulnerable children.
Third - emergent of vaccine resistant mutations, with their potential spread.
Fourth - there will significant impact on exhausted clinicians.
There is no break yet between infection and hospital admission.
Rising case numbers will inevitably mean more hospital admissions.
Millions of people are waiting for procedures and many will die waiting.
Fifth
Deprived communities are very exposed.
The deprived and marginalised will be disproportionately affected.
Given that vaccine offers the same protection and herd immunity, the governments strategy is unethical and illogical.
The U.K. government must reconsider its current strategy and take urgent steps to protect people and children.
We believe that the U.K. government is embarking on a dangerous and unethical experiment, and we call on it to pause its planned endings of all mitigation on 19 July.

Well, Sajid Javid has tested positive now, despite 2 jabs. Mild symptoms apparently, but just shows no one is immune. Ironic really!
The most important part of that post is mild symptoms
That’s what people have to remember. How nice for him! He's been vaccinated. What about the nearly half of the country which hasn't?
Hmm - I wonder growstuff - has he actually had it, or is it just another Government lie, to say that they're all with us, and no need to worry, because after a double vaccination, you would only get mild symptoms.
No reason not to cram onto the tube back to the office next week, and if it runs rampant through the rest of society, our plan is still on track - "release Roderick"! Sorry about the Monty Python reference, but this shower just remind me of a Monty Python collective.
Remember in the Grail film, they built a wooden rabbit and sent it up to the castle, but forgot to put troops inside - a bit like Johnson and Javid trying to convince us they're on our side!!
I think some of you have got imaginations that run away with you. Railman it’s you, I’d get back to your trains I was you.

How rude!
Good grief
…
The British Heart Foundation site states that a study of the AstraZeneca vaccine in South Africa gives protection maybe only as low as 10% for the beta variant. This is the variant which is now active in France. No wonder the double jabbed have to quarantine after returning from France.
I’ve got a bad feeling that when the South African variant first appeared it seemed to affect young people quite badly. I could be wrong.

I think that the heat is getting to some people.
This is another example of some very personal and unpleasant posts I’ve seen today.
Try a cold shower it might cool you down.m
I am afraid you are right FarNorth and I fear for the state of the country when the Tories reign is over, and the remains of social and health care lies in ruins, along with many other things which we value, the Arts for one.
This is an excellent article about the relative effectiveness of existing vaccines against the different variants. Having read it, I can fully understand why the need to keep the South Africa Beta variant out of the UK is so important.

Just reading very well balanced article in the Economist
It reports that with cases rising exponentially larger numbers of people will need treatment in hospitals and more will die. Obvious, but I think important to remember. The government are warning that they might surpass 100,000 a day in August. The writer points out that we would need to rise to about 150,000 a day—three times their winter peak—for hospital admissions to approach the levels experienced in January. That could occur in about four weeks.
Unsurprisingly, the hospital admissions will be highest among the unvaccinated. This includes the young waiting or too young to be vaccinated and the small pockets of vaccine hesitancy.
The article goes on to comment on Johnson's insistence that we must learn to live with the virus and the scientists view that we can better cope with the inevitable deaths and hospitalisations that we come from following this view while the schools are closed and the winter flu, etc., is not burdening the hospitals. It points out that scientists have expressed concern about levels of long covid expected and the government has replied that it is investing £50m into research on the chronic effects of the disease.

Yet another post that adds nothing but personal attack.
Juicywords

Let's just hope they do. I'm afraid I can see it spreading just as the Delta Variant has done. We are Johnson's petri dish.
So apparently Javid had a face to face meeting with Boris in the last few days- so according to their rules Boris should get a ping and self isolate, which given that Monday is ‘freedom day’ would be ironic.
Especially as he is off on his free jollies to Jamaica, paid by G*d knows whom!!! Wow!
In the meantime Johnson has just appointed one of his old Eton besties from the Bullingdon Club as 'Independent (!!!) Sleaze agent. Blimey - he is really taking more than the **ss now!
We are Johnson's petri dish.

On mainland France there is not a great deal of the beta variant at all BUT there is in Reunion where it is almost 100% of the cases.
The British govt are doing the same as they did about stopping the winter fuel allowance to pensioners in warmer countries and they used the French islands in with their calculations to give a high temperature, whereas in reality mainland France often has lower winter temperatures than U.K.
growstuff, you’d know all about that wouldn’t you! Have a nice evening!
I will say this, conspiracy theories are absurd, whoever posts them.

We are Johnson’s Petri dish.
Of course we are
Johnson has no connection with reality.
"Boris Johnson cancelled plans for a Churchillian launch of Freedom Day after No 10 became alarmed by the surge in the number of infections, The Mail on Sunday has learned.
Officials had discussed marking the lifting of Covid restrictions with a rousing speech by the Prime Minister at an historic venue associated with the wartime leader – until scientific advisers took fright at the recent climb in cases."

He probably wouldn’t be able to do it anyway. Won’t he be self isolating because of that meeting with Javid?
Oh, he doesn’t have to self isolate because he and Sunak are taking part in some sort of new scheme which means they don’t have to.
