News channels reporting with the increase of covid infections saying we should be all returning to face mask wearing...how do GNs feel if/when it becomes compulsory again?

susytish Fri 22-Oct-21 12:24:48

Yes, have not stopped wearing one and will continue to do so. People also need to realise is that you can still catch Cocid even if you have been double jabbed.

granjan66 Fri 22-Oct-21 12:27:03

Yes, I do and will continue to do so.

TwoWolves

I've asked for my post to be deleted cos it was totally daft, but the darn things wind me up so much. Bridgeit, I have very rarely worn one, and I'm still here - they don't work!!

Agree, there are no studies to prove mask wearing works but lots prove they are bad for your health.

This says it all!

Lots of people seem to like wearing them. I don't. I've had 3 doses of vaccine. If I thought I were infectious I'd stay home. Masks do not make me feel safe - not seeing people's faces is alienating. That said, I wear them on public transport as requested and in those small shops which ask you to, at medical facilities and the vet. I do not wear, and have never worn them outside or when alone in a large indoor space. To me it's more about a weird kind of etiquette than "staying safe".

The fact that I've not had a cold for 2 years suggests to me that they do indeed work. I managed to come down with covid due to working in a 'bubble' where several of my colleagues came down with it.
So, yes, I continue to wear my mask.
Other benefits are: You can pull faces at people and they don't know: No need for makeup.

Chris Whitty said: I don’t take criticism from someone whose advice I wouldn’t take. Or words to that effect. The researchers say masks mitigate, not perfect but nor are jabs. I think I will listen to them not TwoWolves..

An erstwhile friend bought and used a lanyard to avoid wearing a mask. She tells people she has copd. This is not true, she is fit as a flea. The lies and deceit are hard to take, hence she is now erstwhile, which is sad after 35 years of friendship. I can’t believe she was actually proud of herself instead of blushing with shame.

Hospital workers must be wasting a lot of NHS money with the amount of protective gear they wear to not only shield themselves but patients too. No doubt Two Wolves has been exposed to non mask wearers in all settings and never caught Covid that she vehemently claims they are useless.

Yellowmellow Fri 22-Oct-21 12:35:17

Most definitely wear a mask when l need too e.g inside shops, shopping Malls etc. I'm a keyworker so wear one when working too. The protection is very much around the type of mask you are wearing. Should be FFP2 quality mask.

Purpledreamer Fri 22-Oct-21 12:37:35

I'm still not going out much, but when I do I wear a mask. Even if they don't work (and science suggests they do, but I know some people think otherwise) it's no great hardship.

LovelyLady Fri 22-Oct-21 12:37:43

Feeing sorry for TwoWolves and sincerely hope she doesn’t do or cause any harm.
Yes of course I’m still wearing face masks as are my family. We’re sensible.
We’re not selfish and a mask is the least we can do.
No one is allowed into our home and have garden visits only.
I have friends who go into each other’s home even go on holiday. Some don’t wear masks - I say friends, no they’re former friends as I don’t want selfish folk in my friendship group. They may contaminate us with negativity and stupidity.

I'm continuing to sanitise hands and wear a mask. I'm active (still ride my OAP Arabian horse, who has definitely NOT slowed down with age. Our joint age is 104.) Even though we are in the rural wilderness, it's not worth risking an unnecessary waste of my life.

I have not read all of the previous comments, but, I do have a couple of comments which sum up the the two major problems around Covid-19.
a) The obvious total lack of what is called Common Sense
b) Today's attitude of, me first, or as mentioned above selfishness. Am I right or am I right?

Still wear mine in shops and any where there are more than a few people, i don't believe the wearing of masks should of of been dropped a lot of people in my local still wearing masks as well as the staff

Cornishgreenhouse Fri 22-Oct-21 12:44:05

A lot of people here saying they don’t wear masks, but if they were unwell they’d ‘stay at home’. Do they not realise that you don’t have to be unwell to both have AND pass on covid? So wearing a mask is a common courtesy to others, as well as protecting yourself. To people also saying they haven’t worn masks and they’ve been ok , I would say you are very lucky, but consider you might also have unwittingly passed it on to someone else, just because you don’t like the minor inconvenience of mask wearing.

No never bothered right from the beginning I claimed medical grounds if approached by the mask Nazi's when out and about. I assume they will be gleefully looking forward to donning their uniforms again if the government reimposes the compulsory wearing of masks again.

bear1 Fri 22-Oct-21 12:46:11

should of read my local tesco's

User7777 Fri 22-Oct-21 12:49:54

I never stopped wearing one, unless home alone. Last winter, I had no lung infections, maybe because I wore a mask. I will continue to wear one until I decide not to.

NotANana Fri 22-Oct-21 12:56:13

I do. I wear one in shops etc.
I have a box of disposable ones in the car, and a bag of clean fabric ones by the front door to take with me when i leave the house.

I think that face masks do work, and, along with social distancing should be brought back.

Roddi3363 Fri 22-Oct-21 12:56:43

Masks have been proven to reduce the spread of infection in many of the Far Eastern countries before Covid came along. When I am stopped from wearing a mask, sanitising etc when going to the hospital for appointments I will believe it’s safe to go without in public places.
Wales still insists on masks indoors wisely too.

Davida1968 Fri 22-Oct-21 12:56:47

Yes, still wearing a mask, so is DH plus most friends and family.

Justanotherwannabe Fri 22-Oct-21 12:57:25

TwoWolves, how do you know they don't work?
Even if they are only partially effective, that's better than nothing.
My problem is that every time I go inside my glasses steam up!
I will however restart wearing them.

Sorry to disagree, but decent ply masks do help cut transmission. COVID is spread in droplets via the air - disgusting as it sounds go to a mirror, stand a foot away and spit really hard without a mask - see that spray on your mirror ? Clean your mirror, pop on your mask, spit again ! See how much less spittle on your mirror ?

So if you and someone else both wear well fitting two or three ply masks it will indeed reduce the risks of spreading Covid, fly, cold and coughs.

MountainAsh Fri 22-Oct-21 12:58:04

My family haven’t stopped wearing face masks. We can’t take the risk. I am in Northern Ireland and the number of infections is still high.
When will people ever learn. angry
