Booster vaccination

Will be six months on Sunday since I had my second Covid vaccination. I have not been invited for the booster. I recognize there will be lots of people in the same situation but wondered if any GN s have any advise as to how a booster can be speeded up. I have been on NHS website and was informed I was not eligible at this time for the booster - I am 72 and feeling anxious now.

Sarnia

Has anyone who had AZ for their first and second vaccine jabs and had Pfizer for the booster had an unpleasant reaction? Apart from a slightly sore arm I did not have any problems with AZ. I had the Pfizer booster yesterday and this morning I woke to feel completely washed out. Freezing cold body and a burning face, a bit nauseous and so tired. Not like me at all. Hopefully, it will be very shortlived.

Sorry to hear that, Sarnia and hope you soon feel back to normal.

I have had Pfizer for all of my jabs but the booster seems to have given me a continual mild headache for the last 10 days.

I had AZfor my first two jabs. 4 weeks ago I had my 3rd one, not a booster but a full shot, of Pfizer and had a headache for about a week. Will be having my booster of Pfizer in about 4 weeks and I expect the same. Reason 4 jabs is I am immune suppressed and my surgery was on the ball and got us all done straight away.

I had three Pfizer and had headaches and tiredness every time. The lethargy took a long time to lift.

Dd text me walk in centres are now open for booster jabs, so I went online to find the nearest. It’s nearly 20 miles away! It has no public transport links. How ridiculous is that? Anyone in Bristol and Bath is told to go there. Surely with 2 large cities something better could be organised? I’ll just have to wait for my invite by Thursday when I can chase it up.

I went to local walk in centrefold booster this morning only to be turned away as they are short staffed and doing appointments only.

Bridie22 Mon 01-Nov-21 13:57:11

I have tried this morning to find a walk in booster site near me as mine is overdue, there is nothing within 15 miles of me and thats in an out of town stadium that is only accessible by a car, so what do us non drivers do ?

I had a third Covid vaccination this morning. It was Pfizer this time. AZ for the last two. I've not to get a booster until six months because I'm immunosuppressed. The booster will be Pfizer too. smile

Marydoll Mon 01-Nov-21 19:02:27

Good news rascal, . I have a date for mine too, followed by a booster. I won't be convinced until I actually get it! It's been a shambles.
I have been told I have to make it clear at the appointment that I'm immunocompromised.

I've come late to this thread but seem to have landed lucky with my "jabs". Got a telephone call to attend surgery for my flu jab and when there was given a slip to attend a local church hall the following Saturday to receive my booster. As far as I could see the session was manned by doctors and nurses from my surgery which comes under Highland. Can't understand why there seems to be so many very different ways of administering this vacination programme. I appreciate the actual locations can be very different within our area but surely there should have been a basic framework set out.

rascal Mon 01-Nov-21 19:59:36

Yes Marydoll it is a shambles. I did not receive a letter. I only read it in a local newspaper online or I wouldn't have known today was the day! When I was called for the jag I said to the girl I'm immunosuppressed and I had read on the zoe covid app that we should have a third vaccine before the booster. She checked my info on her tablet and said yes. If I hadn't mentioned it I think I would just have had the booster! I asked if the third vaccine was different from the booster and she said yes. So now we know. wink

SueDonim Mon 01-Nov-21 20:30:37

Still nothing here for me, either flu or the booster. The army is now being used to drive the vaccination programme along in this area and also to help run our main hospital. It’s not filling me with confidence.

Marydoll Mon 01-Nov-21 20:36:15

Thank you so much, Rascal! You don't know how relieved I am hearing this. I knew I was coded immunocompromised on my CHI, but no-one could help me with my query. I tried the vaccine helpline and they were absolutely useless, the chap kept offering me a booster appointment!

I had a call from the hospital, when I queried the lack of letter and was told by the rhematology specialist nurse that none of their immunocompromised patients had received notification and that they were considering sending letters to them.

I had been researching this and on taking part in the Zoe webinar on the vaccine and the immunosuppressed last week, so I realised I was up the creek, without a paddle!!!
It seems that those of us who received the AZ vaccine, were in some cases only 40% covered. That's scary!!!

Shelflife Mon 01-Nov-21 21:14:31

Had my booster - super relieved ?!

NHS England says most people live within 10 miles of a walk-in booster centre. Ha ha!

Sar53 Mon 01-Nov-21 21:54:11

DH had an appointment for his booster this morning. I was sitting in the car waiting for him when he phoned and said they would give me mine although it was five days early.
He feels fine, I have a very sore, achy arm.
I'm glad we have both had them.

rascal Tue 02-Nov-21 00:02:11

Yes Marydoll folks like us don't seem to have much protection. So far with all the vaccinations including the flu one I have had no reaction at all. I don't want a reaction anyway but most people I have spoken to have had some reaction. So I think with no reaction it's not giving full protection. But of course I could be wrong . Best of luck with getting your third jag! grin

Marydoll Tue 02-Nov-21 01:10:22

rascal, I was so ill after the first vaccination, that they were reluctant to give me the second. Aye right! I made such a fuss, that they eventually gave it to me. I was very unwell unwell again and had to report it to the yellow card scheme.
However, it was no surprise, as I have previous convictions, regarding allergies!

I will be prepared for this, after my third primary one. Better that than dead! ?

rascal Tue 02-Nov-21 09:36:05

Oh dear Marydoll that's a worry for you having to have the third one then a booster one too. I have a lot of allergies too but fortunately so far seem to be bright eyed and bushy tailed! Just the upper arm where the jag went in is sore and stiff. I seem to be very tired even although I seem to be sleeping very well at the mo.
Positive thoughts on their way to you...
In a previous post I tried to put an open square bracket before and after your name but it didn't seem to make Marydoll in bold .hmm

Different link today sent and tested by dd (in case I am an idiot!) nearest centre now only 2.4 miles away and both dh and myself booked in for next Weds afternoon. The appointments were going fast though so lucky to get 2 only 5mins apart.

Alegrias1 Tue 02-Nov-21 11:27:22

DH got his blue envelope for his booster today, appointment 26 weeks to the day after his second dose. It was on a day when he was working, so before he arranged time off he though he'd try to see if he could get another appointment. Got one exactly 24 hours later. Both appointments were at a location about 15 minutes walk from our house.

I always think its worth sharing the good news as well as the bad.

SueDonim Tue 02-Nov-21 12:44:35

My blue letter arrived today with an appt in two weeks time. That’ll be seven months, although the letter also informs me that six months = 24 weeks! confused

My 93yo mum still hasn’t had hers. sad

chelseababy Tue 02-Nov-21 14:54:31

Booked online today for Thursday, 6 months and 4 days after 2nd jab. Centre less than a mile away.

humptydumpty Tue 02-Nov-21 15:04:50

I'm completely confused about the difference between 3rd jab and booster - is there one, and if so, what is it?

Got a text from my GPs this morning and booked for walk-in jab next Friday (just over 6 months since 2nd).

Marydoll Tue 02-Nov-21 16:49:26

Those with weakened immune systems are being offered a THIRD primary COVID-19 vaccination instead of just two doses.

The third vaccination is NOT the same as a booster.

It is a top up because while the first two doses will have offered some protection, they may not have generated a full immune response as they do in those who do not have weakened immune systems.

rascal an asterisk first and last around a word, with no gaps highlights it.
