Booster vaccination

Will be six months on Sunday since I had my second Covid vaccination. I have not been invited for the booster. I recognize there will be lots of people in the same situation but wondered if any GN s have any advise as to how a booster can be speeded up. I have been on NHS website and was informed I was not eligible at this time for the booster - I am 72 and feeling anxious now.

growstuff Fri 05-Nov-21 08:09:44

I received a text 182 days after my second dose and have now booked an appointment on 20 November.

Marydoll Fri 05-Nov-21 08:37:10

Thanks, Growstuff, I had two AZ vaccinations, which apparently have only offered 40% effectiveness in some of the immunosuppressed, which is why I am anxious to have a third dose ASAP. It will have to be a different vaccine, according to the JVC.

I have an appointment next Sunday, we will see what transpires. Apparently there have been two hour waiting times outside our health centre. People were queuing down the main street, not exactly good for those who are vulnerable. Some were getting family to queue for them, while they sat in their car. There are quite a few S words, I could use to describe that situation. wink

All straightforward here. 6 months & one week. Himself goes for his booster on Monday. I’m the week after. No chasing either, we were sent a text.

I’ve just skim read some of this thread! I’m so confused! sad
I’ve just emailed my GP surgery on behalf of MrC who I believe is definitely eligible for the 3rd dose.
I tried to call them, but, well, you know…wink
I’m going to have a bash at ringing the vaccine helpline now. Wish me luck ? I may be some time…

I don't understand what's happened to the organisation up here. The first two Covid jags were so straightforward to access but this time the appointments system and organisation seems to have gone haywire. I'm glad DH and I have been 'done' but by golly it was an ordeal.

Marydoll Fri 05-Nov-21 09:09:52

Good luck with that Fanny. Sorry to be so negative, the person I spoke to, hadn't a clue!

The local MP, (whose mother was at school with me and also a colleague, we are quite a close knit community here) has protested bitterly to Nicola Sturgeon about the queues he witnessed outside the local health centre.

It’s simply unacceptable that the people we should be working hardest to protect are being left to wait out in the cold and rain.

Locally, I have seen queues of elderly people in the rain outside the Health Centre.
I asked the First Minister what she was doing to fix this and the response I got back was empty words and platitudes.

Says it all!

Thanks Mary
When we had our flu jags (smile) at Boots yesterday, I mentioned the third vaccine to the HCP who was administering them.
She had never heard of them either

I’ve just been in touch with MrC’s respiratory team at the hospital.
I had to explain to them all about the third vaccine versus the booster. They were very interested

FannyCornforth Fri 05-Nov-21 09:24:33

Oh come on Alegrias sad

FannyCornforth Fri 05-Nov-21 09:25:39

Sorry I spoke too soon, Al, I’m confused myself. Ignore my above comment please smile

No, really Fanny, I've had enough. People are more than entitled to complain about the confusion about the immunosuppressed, but otherwise what do we expect? Millions upon millions of doses are being given out for some there are some problems.

I refuse to get caught up in the complaining and I'm going to put the other side.

Aveline Fri 05-Nov-21 09:31:17

I'm not going to report you Alegrias but you're not actually right on this issue. We did get our call up but when we arrived on time and as directed only to find we'd walked into a complete bourach! The organisers must have known how many people they'd sent appointments to yet were completely unprepared for us actually turning up.

But for most people its fine.

I am right.

Casdon Fri 05-Nov-21 09:32:09

It’s not a shambles, but the rollout certainly isn’t going as well as it could, this from BBC News:
Since September, more than seven million have received a third jab in England. The programme though has struggled to keep pace with the number hitting the six-month mark and becoming eligible.
Roughly 5.8 million people now qualify but have not yet been jabbed, according to John Roberts, from the Covid-19 Actuaries Response Group, which has been tracking the rollout, up from 2.8 million a month ago.
Given the WHO warning about cases surging in Europe, there has to be a big push in the next few weeks to catch up.

Alegrias1 Fri 05-Nov-21 09:34:56

Sorry, but I'm quite angry about this.

For the vast majority of people in this country, Scotland and the UK in general, the booster program is doing fine. We hear about all the places where there are issues, but the people who have come on here to say everything went fine are just being talked over.

You are perfectly entitled come on here and say your experience was bad, but to then go on and say the whole thing is in meltdown- not fair.

Alegrias1 Fri 05-Nov-21 09:39:37

You can be eligible but that doesn't mean you have to have your jab exactly on the 6 month anniversary of your second jab. The sense of entitlement does my head in.

Sorry, again.

Didn't Roberts also point out that the daily number of does had gone up by 13% compared with the previous week? So they are having a big push?

Liz46 Fri 05-Nov-21 09:41:44

We went to Boots in Chester for our boosters and it was very friendly and efficient. Other people came who did not have an appointment but the staff dealt with everyone very well.

Marydoll Fri 05-Nov-21 09:42:31

I'm really sorry for anyone that's had problems, and this may get me deleted, but....isn't it funny that its always the same people who have problems?

You really don't get it, do you Alegrias? What an unpleasant remark to make. Because your experience has been positive, does not mean that everyone else has had a positive experience. Some compassion would not go amiss.

I won't be reporting, I want people to see your post.

Alegrias1 Fri 05-Nov-21 09:51:07

Good Marydoll. I want everybody to see my post too.

Because your experience has been positive, does not mean that everyone else has had a positive experience.

Because your experience has been negative, does not mean that everyone else has had a negative experience. As I posted, everyone has a right to post about their experience. But then to, condemn the whole system as a disaster because of that - no on.

Seems to have gone quite well for Liz46

Parsley3 Fri 05-Nov-21 09:52:02

I am going for my booster and flu jags this afternoon. I will let you know how it goes.

growstuff Fri 05-Nov-21 09:57:37

Alegrias1

No I can't keep quiet, honestly.

Marydoll et al excepted, obviously; its fine, really it is. I'm not in denial, I'm not minimising anyone's problems, but for the vast majority of people ITS FINE. Sorry if that upsets anyone, sorry if you think you're being ignored, but I've had enough of the doomsayers.

I'm really sorry for anyone that's had problems, and this may get me deleted, but....isn't it funny that its always the same people who have problems?

Anyone noticed that the people on this thread who were complaining about not knowing what was happening got their callups on time and have had their appointments with no issues, or are just waiting for them to come up?

Report away. It's worth it.

And isn't it funny that the same people never seem to have any problems with Covid vaccinations, gaps on supermarket shelves and lack of fuel at petrol stations!?

Funny old world!

This is like saying that there's no poverty because some people are rich.

Why should you have had enough? You don't have to read people's complaints. They are anxious and I can confirm that communication has been awful. I have my appointment now, but until I received a text, there was no communication at all.

Grannybags Fri 05-Nov-21 10:06:44

It's six months to the day since my last jab and I've just been on line and booked my booster. No probs (so far!)
