Booster vaccination

Will be six months on Sunday since I had my second Covid vaccination. I have not been invited for the booster. I recognize there will be lots of people in the same situation but wondered if any GN s have any advise as to how a booster can be speeded up. I have been on NHS website and was informed I was not eligible at this time for the booster - I am 72 and feeling anxious now.

I took part in a Zoe webinar a few weeks ago, which discussed the vaccine and the immunosuppressed, where we could ask questions and hopefully get some answers and reassurance.
I was astonished to see the large number of patients, who had the same experience as some of us on here, posting about lack of support.

Two of the participants were professors from university teaching hospitals in Oxford and London.
They explained that due to the lack of information being filtered through the system, and GPs not receiving the relevant information, they were so concerned that they had started giving their immunocompromised patients the third vaccination at their clinics, due to the delay in accessing it through normal channels.
The recommendation is that a third primary vaccine be administered eight weeks after the second one.
I had mine in April, it's now November. I have every reason to make a fuss.

There are at least 500,000 immunocompressed in England alone add on the rest of the UK. It's a fair number.

I’ve started a thread about the third primary vaccine. Please post any information that you have about it in there! Thank you thanks

Oh come on Alegrias sad

No, really Fanny, I've had enough. People are more than entitled to complain about the confusion about the immunosuppressed, but otherwise what do we expect? Millions upon millions of doses are being given out for some there are some problems.

I refuse to get caught up in the complaining and I'm going to put the other side.

Why should you have had enough? You don't have to read people's complaints. They are anxious and I can confirm that communication has been awful. I have my appointment now, but until I received a text, there was no communication at all.

I have had enough because there is enough anxiety in the world right now without people adding to it by posting about how there's been no communication, how everything's a shambles, how the government are trying to kill us off.

Didn't they say they would contact you when you were eligible and then contacted you when you were eligible? What else did you want, daily bulletins on what number you were on the list?

Have your say, by all means, but a bit of balance is required.

Gosh, Mary
I’ve just read your last post, it’s not good is it sad
In fact it’s bloody awful

Mollygo Fri 05-Nov-21 10:19:40

Now I know I live in an efficient area.
We were texted to arrange a third dose 6 months after our second. Choice of 3 venues and several times. Our neighbours also found the same happened for them and staff in work (where it was applicable) had the same experience including the lady who is in remission from cancer.

Interesting read from Kidney Care UK:

www.kidneycareuk.org/news-and-campaigns/news/lack-clarity-around-3rd-dose-immunosuppressed-leaves-thousands-risk/

It seems it hasn't just been a handful of over-anxious worriers who haven't known what's going on.

From a patient safety POV, it is exactly the attitude ‘Well, most people are fine,’ that allows scandals such as the Stafford Hospitals to occur. The vast majority of people who had dealings with the Stafford hospitals went home again unscathed, but some did not. Sticking heads in the sand allows such events to take place. People know what’s going on, people try to bring attention to it but it’s swept under the carpet.

I don’t recall that I’ve used the chaos or shambles word but today a community nurse arrived on a visit to my housebound (and now frail) mum. She did a regular check up on her but couldn’t give her either the flu or booster because they don’t have any. The nurse herself said they are under great stress because everything is so chaotic and they don’t know what’s happening from one day to the next. Her words, not mine.

I'm really sorry for anyone that's had problems, and this may get me deleted, but....isn't it funny that its always the same people who have problems ?
That’s very passive aggressive and I would rather not explore what lies behind this “I’m all right, Jack” attitude.
No, it’s not funny . Perhaps the same people who have problems are precisely those whose health issues or situation cause or highlight the problems?
I would not have appreciated the difference between a third vaccination and a booster because it does not apply to me. Or the confusion over the timing and accessibility of the Covid booster, because I have been lucky that our health authority seems to have got their act together and acted with commendable efficiency.
But it would be short sighted and selfish of me to deny that others have had difficulties.
Get down from your ivory tower!

Alegrias1 Fri 05-Nov-21 11:45:53

Have I ever denied that others have had difficulties?

Blaming me for saying something I never said doesn't help the cause at all, I'm afraid.

Alegrias1 Fri 05-Nov-21 11:47:09

(Oh, sorry - excuse me if I misunderstood, but haven't you just said that you haven't had any problems? QED)

I quoted your exact words -so if you did not mean what you said, you should not have said it.
What you said however was clearly cynical and intended to cast doubt on the validity of others’ experience.
cf As an example isn’t it funny how the same people have accessibility problems to banks or shops?
Yes- those with mobility issues.
You may not have in so many words, denied but the smug, demeaning way in which you “did not deny” the problems of others was obvious to more than me

Happygirl79 Fri 05-Nov-21 12:06:18

This is exactly my problem too. Rang 119 and told to just keep trying each day on the app until I am allowed to book my booster. I am 68. I am finding this extremely stressful

nanaK54 Fri 05-Nov-21 12:48:13

It is six months to the day since my last jab, haven't received any communication to say that I am eligible but thought that I would just try the NHS vaccine website, very happy to find that I was able to book for two weeks time

A couple of weeks ago somebody tried to accuse me of discrimination against people with mental health issues.

She'd imagined it as well.

I'd forgotten, of course, the near-mystic ability of some GNers to know exactly what people mean even if they post something else entirely.

Not Great Aunt Tess' daughter, Polly?

PollyTickle Fri 05-Nov-21 14:19:04

No ixion Tess was not born out of wedlock. What are you implying?
She is the daughter of Obs who tries to stop her doing anything.

Just wanted to post a positive comment on this thread.

I got my NHS booster reminder letter last week, yesterday I looked on the website and chose a vaccination centre (a pharmacy) that could give me the jab as soon as possible and near to me. I booked the appointment for today at 13.55.

Today I drove to the pharmacy and was given the booster at the appointed time and, after the advisory 10 minutes wait, left and was back home within half an hour.

Thank you NHS, brilliant service in my area (Midlands)

Daisymae Fri 05-Nov-21 16:39:43

Had ours yesterday and I have the sore arm to prove it! Funnily enough I had the text first, my husband is ECV, older and has been shielding but he didn't receive one and was not able to book online even though we had our first and second vaccines together. I phoned on his behalf and was able to book at the same venue/time. I guess that you have to wait 6 months plus one week then you may/should have access?

Alegrias1 Fri 05-Nov-21 16:41:17

When people report posts they don't like they really should report the posts that quote it wink.

Aveline Fri 05-Nov-21 17:43:58

Have you had a post reported Alegrias? If so I don't know why.

Alegrias1 Fri 05-Nov-21 18:36:40

Thanks Aveline. I've had a post deleted, no complaints from me because GN are free to delete anything they like from their site.

It's just a bit comical that the post is repeated several times by other posters quoting it. Of course they may be gone by now ?

marymary62 Fri 05-Nov-21 18:39:56

Haven’t had a reminder letter but just went on website and booked for the 12 th Nov. Tried a few weeks running but only today let me book it . I had my last vaccination on 6 May. Keep trying everyone ! I’m 66 as of yesterday !
