The Elusive Third Primary Vaccine - not the Booster

Hello
I know that there is a thread already about the Booster; but I felt that another thread devoted to the ever elusive third primary vaccine may be helpful.

The third primary dose is apparently valuable for those who are severely immune suppressed.

It is in addition to the booster.

My main question is - has anyone actually had it?

I’ve spoken to a variety of HCPs recently, and none of them have even heard of it sad

Thank you ?

Yes I have had the third primary vaccination. I have leukaemia (CML) and when I received the letter asking me to attend for my booster I phoned them up and said what about my third jab first? It was agreed I should be receiving a third primary and the next week I received a text asking me to attend the vaccination centre in town. The man on the door didn't know about the third one and asked someone else and she was 'in the know' and led me off to a nurse also 'in the know'. However the admin person recording which vaccination you were having was at a complete loss as to where it should be recorded. So we'll see if I am contacted for my booster next March! I knew about it because of a Blood Cancer charity site which I follow and it said for all Blood cancers and immune suppressed people.

Fanny , if I remember correctly, Your husband has another condition, that requires the medication, similar to the one I'm on. That is the consultant to contact.

FannyCornforth Sun 07-Nov-21 14:04:10

Thanks Mary, that’s right. I managed to get through to the RA nurse.
I spoke to his (RA) consultant’s secretary, and she said to speak to one of the nurses, as they’d know more about what’s going on (she didn’t have a clue what I was on about).
It really beggars belief doesn’t it

Also the fact that he’s on steroids makes him eligible for the third vaccine.
If I’m correct, he is eligible for it for three different reasons

I received a letter from my hospital asking me to get a third vaccine, then six months later a booster but they don't know which it will be. It can be given two months after the second dose. I've been told to contact my GP and either they will do it or send me to a vaccination centre. I feel there's going to be a bit of run around as left hand doesn't know what the right is up to.

I am on immunosuppressants and in Scotland. I got a 3rd vaccination weeks ago. Before the 6 months for the booster. I was sent an appointment in the post at my nearest vaccination centre. All done and dusted very quickly. Very pleased with the service.

My husband and I had our booster vaccine over five weeks ago, we had the flu vaccine at the same time. My husband has cancer, so maybe we had the vaccinations because of this. However, our next door neighbour, who is in her late seventies, has had no notification at all . My husband looked up the walk in vaccine centre, no appointment necessary, and she had both vaccinations there .

As from tomorrow you can book online:
From Monday 8 November 2021 you'll be able to pre-book an appointment for a booster dose if you're eligible and it's been at least 152 days (5 months) since your 2nd dose.

The appointments you'll be offered will still be from 182 days (6 months) after your 2nd dose.

About booking your booster
You need to:

book 1 appointment for 1 booster dose
wait 4 weeks (28 days) before booking if you've had a positive COVID-19 test, starting from the date you had the test.

See: www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/book-or-manage-a-booster-dose-of-the-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine/

Scroll down to book.

My son-in-law, who is immune suppressed following a kidney transplant, has had his 3rd Covid jab a few weeks ago, at his GP Surgery. His first two were at the major transplant hospital. I have hard of a number of others so, yes, people are receiving the 3rd jab.

Haydnpat Sun 07-Nov-21 15:50:43

Yes. My daughter who is undergoing chemo, has had hers a month ago.

FannyCornforth I thought I'd save you the trouble of telling Retired65 that they are posting on the wrong thread - this thread is entitled
The Elusive Third Primary Vaccine - not the Booster
If only we could just book the 3rd primary online!

FannyCornforth Sun 07-Nov-21 16:30:10

Thank you Missedout (sigh)
I did try to be clear in the title.
Mind you, it’s gone out in the Daily Newsletter without the caveat.
You can only do so much can’t you? hmm

Marydoll Sun 07-Nov-21 16:30:35

Missedout, the point of the thread was to support those who are trying to get a third Primary, vaccine NOT the booster. The important information is being lost in the thread, because people have not read the title properly and are reporting they have successfully have had the booster.

It's a pity, as so many are struggling to get a third Primary dose and are becoming increasingly more and more anxious about it.

Marydoll Sun 07-Nov-21 16:33:03

Fanny, you did try your best!
I understand that posters are trying to help, but they just don't understand how problematic it has been.

FannyCornforth Sun 07-Nov-21 16:35:17

I’m sorry if I sound a bit tetchy, but come on folks, at least read the title, let alone the opening post.
And then, you might find that the pages of responses from others informative

FannyCornforth Sun 07-Nov-21 16:36:03

Cross post Mary, perhaps a very cross one! smile

Marydoll Sun 07-Nov-21 16:37:16

PS. Why does no-one bother to actually read the whole thread?

Sorry I'm quite ratty today. I blame the fact that after weeks of angst, I eventually managed to get my third PRIMARY vaccine yesterday.
I feel awful, but not as awful, as I would feel if I caught Covid, I would be dead!

FannyCornforth Sun 07-Nov-21 16:41:14

Mary and otherECVers, it’s so difficult, Covid is in no way ‘over’ for us and our loved ones.
thanks for all of us

Yes, I've had a third dose but what a performance trying to sort it. I first had the NHS letter saying in bold "this is not a booster" so I phoned my G.P surgery [normally brilliant] who said they didn't know anything about it and to ask my consultant! As I wasn't being seen until this coming Wednesday I'm afraid I took matters in to my own hands.
I drove to our local vaccination centre, without an appointment [computer said no when I tried to book online] and I showed my letter at the front desk and explained my frustration. Glory be, I was whisked off like a VIP and given the Pfizer there and then with instructions to get a booster later which apparently should be the Moderna meaning that I would have had the whole spread - 2 Astra Zeneca, 1 Pfizer, 1 Moderna thereby, apparently giving me the best chance of developing some kind of immunity. The whole thing is a shambles in my opinion and I feel really sorry for those perhaps not as able as I am to sort it out.

FannyCornforth Sun 07-Nov-21 16:53:44

RecklessGran that’s really interesting about the letter that you received. Whereabouts are you, if you don’t mind me asking?

Marydoll Sun 07-Nov-21 16:54:32

Well done Recklessgran I did the same yesterday.
Olive stop trying to derail this thread with your own agenda and as Fanny, please start your own thread. Backed up of course with scientific data.
I shall be more than happy to contribute to it.

poshpaws Sun 07-Nov-21 17:00:57

I've had my letter, and am getting 3rd vaccine on the 11th. But I'm in Scotland, which is possibly a different kettle of fish to E & W.

poshpaws Sun 07-Nov-21 17:02:39

oops, sorry - I mistook the primary/booster issue.
