Christmas party at Downing Street last year

Families who lost loved ones during the pandemic have said they are "sickened" by a No 10 Christmas party held during last year's Covid restrictions.

The party took place on 18 December, with a source telling the BBC "several dozen" people attended.

But the Covid restrictions operating at the time banned such events.

Boris Johnson - who was not at the party - said no Covid rules were broken, but No 10 has refused to explain how party-goers complied.

Absolutely disgusted by their behaviour.

Crikey.

They are even more stupid than I thought possible.

I can’t wait to see how they’re going to talk their way out of this one.

theworriedwell Tue 07-Dec-21 21:00:33

They've just shown that video on BBC new channel. The presenter, can't remember his name, saying he had a cousin die just before last Christmas and his mother die just after when he was talking to someone who also had a death and couldn't be with loved one. I don't think they are going to let this one go easily. The cat is well and truly out of the bag now.

I bet there are some Downing St staff sweating now having been seen on that video.

It must be a very bitter pill to swallow, having lost a loved one.
I do hope, at long last, that this is the death knell for Johnson and co.
It has to be.

FGS growstuff, how many times do I have to explain myself? It’s not about me.

I understood the first time, so there wouldn't be much point in repeating yourself. Anyway, now you know she's not Jewish, you can say what you like.

PS. Allegra Stratton isn't Jewish either, so you can say what you like about her too. hmm

Honestly

This is the video

theworriedwell Wed 08-Dec-21 07:49:50

Now it turns out that Gavin Williamson also had a party for his department and his department aren't even trying to deny it or justify it.

On a side note was anyone impressed with Allegra Stratton? She's on £125000 a year apparently.

Her conduct was appalling and she should be shown the door. But I suspect Johnson will have to consider that move carefully as she probably has enough behind the scenes information on this odious lot to do them serious harm.

Cummings has, I think.
He has said that it would be a big mistake to lie about what went on...

Oh well he should know about lying, shouldn’t he. Who takes this little weasels words as gospel. Not me and never have. Still suits the agenda now to believe him. The people who were at this party should have the nouse to own up, and resign, or be sacked, like he should have done in the first instance, then a precedent may have been set. At least Hancock had the decency to go.

MissAdventure Wed 08-Dec-21 09:00:49

I can't stand him!
I'm beginning to dislike the others just as much though, there is nothing to set any of them apart.

vegansrock Wed 08-Dec-21 09:28:58

Decency and Matt Hancock shouldn’t be in the same sentence. He only resigned as he was caught on camera.

Casdon Wed 08-Dec-21 09:44:37

Cummings left in November, so wouldn’t have been at this gathering - it can’t have been him that leaked unless somebody else who was there gave him the evidence.

MissAdventure Wed 08-Dec-21 09:48:19

Cummings has a lot of connections to journalists.
As is usual, it's all a big network of wives, partners, friends with these people.

Parsley3 Wed 08-Dec-21 09:53:02

Call me churlish but I wonder if the PM will turn up to PMQ today or have a previous commitment that cannot be cancelled.

And probably most of those journalists were at the party grin

Stratton's husband is a Telegraph journalist, I wonder why he didn't say anything about it at the time...

Barmeyoldbat Wed 08-Dec-21 09:55:16

Why all this stuff about someone’s religion, it has nothing to do with the post which is about the government, lead by Johnson once again failing the public and lying.

That thought had crossed my mind.

Quite honestly, if he does turn up it will be a damp squib. He'll just start shouting his usual script, which is the same for every 'answer' that he gives.

What will be interesting is seeing how many of his backbenchers turn up to provide the bear garden noises. The back benches have a bit thinly populated this last week or two.

MissAdventure Wed 08-Dec-21 09:59:02

There are members of his own party who are lambasting him.

Casdon Wed 08-Dec-21 10:06:31

Maybe the result of this morning’s cabinet meeting on Omicron will be to immediately ask people to work from home to reduce the spread, thereby giving an excuse to cancel PMQ altogether?

MissAdventure Wed 08-Dec-21 10:14:40

Ive seen rumblings about that already.
Watch this space.

I think they'll try and just sit it out by avoidance tactics so that would make sense.

Grannynannywanny Wed 08-Dec-21 10:25:41

I’m not sure why I’ve let this upset me so much as we have known for too long that Johnson is an accomplished liar and gets away with it.

I think it’s because we now have evidence of them laughing at us while they coach each other on how to cover their tracks and lie at a time folk were separated from their loved ones, many of whom died.

I lay awake last night going over in my head how I spent most of last year and a chunk of this year only being allowed window visits to a much loved relative in a nursing home. He has a severe learning disability and dementia. He had zero understanding of why I couldn’t go inside and it broke my heart when he frequently extended his arms to me on the other side of the glass appealing for me to hug him.

I observed the rules to keep him safe. Not that I could have broken them anyway as the police would have been called.

I’m incensed at the conduct of this government.

And NO Christmas parties under any circumstances.

MissAdventure Wed 08-Dec-21 10:30:36

I think any rules will be advisory only.
How can they possibly enforce them after this, and the end result will be further spread of the virus.
