Dr Angelique Coetzee the South African doctor that discovered the Omicron strain has spoken publicly about the over reaction to Omicron and has called for calm.
According to this doctor the variant is very mild compared to Delta.
In SA only 26% of the population are vaccinated and Omicron has not caused a surge in hospital admissions.
Why are we destroying the economy, putting people’s health and well-being at risk for a strain that’s milder than all the previous strains?

Most people I have spoken to have heard about the new symptoms of it just feeling like a bad cold. Several friends of my children have tested positive as they have checked even though they don't feel particularly ill and previous to Covid would not have given their symptoms a second thought

Low backache is apparently one of the different symptoms of omicron, along with a really runny nose.

I’ve got a stinking cold so thought I aught to do a LFT. How horrible are they? How do people manage to test their children. I know now why my granddaughter said it was the worst thing that had ever happened to her when she had one last year! At least I know how to do them now. If I can catch a cold when the only place I’ve been to in weeks is the garage to fill up with petrol, fully masked and sanitised, how can people avoid catching Omicron? Am I right in thinking the new tests are just nose only?

My DD has covid atm. Positive PCR normally fit n healthy young 20s. Shes very very ill and double vaccinated. It's not always mild see my other post.

We have been told that the new lateral flow tests are nose only, but I do my throat as well for certainty. Only a couple of days ago I read that lateral flows are more reliable when the throat and nose are swabbed.

My grandchildren all under 9 have become very apt at doing them with little fuss as they have to do so many
Certainly not terrible having done quite a lot especially in the last few weeks they become as easy as brushing your teeth
I also do nose and throat but not in that order lol
