However I put this it’s going to sound sexist and it’s not at all, I had a wonderful father have a great son and lovely hard working sensible grandsons but …..
Listening to a radio ring in this morning it’s was basically all men ringing in saying I m not having the third injection (or
I m not having any injections or I m not carrying medical records) because I m not going to be told what to do!
When I watched the news last night of the demonstrations in London, it was all men screaming, shouting and threatening dreadful violence to the police what is it with some men is it the education status, is it their egos …... ?
I m not saying no women are acting so ridiculously but certainly this morning every ring in was a VERY belligerent sounding man
Don’t shoot me I m as far from a man hater as the moon is from me but it is a conversational observation

Haha, I like your description Calistemon, rather resistant to doing as he is bid and it’s an excellent description of my dear husband too. On the other hand he’s very happy to lots of things, including helping others, when he’s not been bid to do it. In other words, contrary!

I'm in that club too grin

Doodledog Sun 19-Dec-21 17:10:38

I meant the club of wives of men with Contrary Syndrome, for avoidance of doubt!

Yes, a volunteer is better than two pressed men, as the saying goes!

He volunteered to chop an onion and peel potatoes but has settled down to watch Countryfile hmm

Welcome to the club Doodledog.

maddyone Sun 19-Dec-21 17:14:10

I have to confess that dear husband is busy in the kitchen making a delicious roast chicken dinner pour moi. And I’m wasting time on Gransnet grin

FarNorth Sun 19-Dec-21 17:20:48

BlueBelle was it put to them that they risk serious illness or death?

BlueBelle Sun 19-Dec-21 17:24:26

I really didn’t post this to have a go at men however tongue in cheek and of course it wasn’t anything to do with lazy husbands it was simple shocking to hear all these men bother to ring in to a programme this morning to completely talk down the vaccines and really anything to do with fighting this virus and yes of course I know there are women anti Vaxers it’s just these men one after the other were so vehement and down right ignorant in their rants

BlueBelle Sun 19-Dec-21 17:27:55

Yes very much so farnorth and more plain speaking about their decisions for family and population as whole etc I can’t fault the presenter

Baggs

Pathological Demand Avoidance, otherwise known as severe bloody-mindedness. There are fairly sympathetic articles online (from psychologists, I believe) about this condition.

That is a diagnosable condition, on the Autism spectrum. It has nothing to do with bloody-mindedness. A relative of mine has it and it makes life very difficult for him (and his parents). Fortunately, when people are open-minded about it and don't write him off as 'bloody-minded' he is able to try to use the strategies he's learning in an attempt to deal with it. He's 7.

It feels like bloody-mindedness, dood. Though I agree that you are right, which is why I mentioned the sympathetic articles by People Who Know flowers

FarNorth Sun 19-Dec-21 19:39:47

And what did they reply to that BlueBelle?

Doodledog Sun 19-Dec-21 19:53:11

Fair enough, Baggs flowers. To be fair, we all thought he was just being difficult until he was diagnosed. It's still hard work, but knowing that he doesn't mean it does help.

Maybe women are exactly the same but they are too busy to ring in to shows. grin

pinkjj27 Mon 20-Dec-21 12:13:24

I think women just have more sense than to shout about it all over the radio. IMHO anyaway.

Suzey Mon 20-Dec-21 12:16:16

Think there are as many women against it as men ,I'm one of them ,lots of women can't just go and protest as have family commitments

sazz1 Mon 20-Dec-21 12:17:26

I'm fully vaccinated as are my family. My BFF won't have the vaccine and is sceptical as to whether covid isn't just a variety of flu.
My DD has covid atm and is very ill despite being fully vaccinated.
My DGD caught it a month ago and was quite poorly despite having one jab (due to age)
Those conspiracy theorists make me sick. If they could see how ill some people are with it they would know its real.
Having said that I do think everyone has the right to refuse any medical treatment as that is a basic human right.

greenlady102 Mon 20-Dec-21 12:22:52

I think its an invalid sampling system to base a comment on A) people who call phone ins and B) the subset of people who are chosen to speak on air......same as demonstrations and what is televised.

Jess20 Mon 20-Dec-21 12:27:16

Why anyone sees facasks and vaccination as threatening their freedoms can't be aware of the proposed limits to our freedom to demonstrate peacefully in public, threats to the polital freedom of the judicial process, curtailment of rights to travel and work in Europe etc etc....

tictacnana Mon 20-Dec-21 12:45:30

Men believe most of what they are told, see or read that is controversial or conspiratorial. It gives them a reason to beat their breast and vent their masculine spleen with one another until it’s time to eat or go to beddy bi-bows. Sorry if that sounds sexist but my OH was shielding for 18 months and is now retired and the amount of hot air rubbish and blather I have had to half listen to is beyond belief. Now that his old codger pals are emerging from their imposed hibernation it’s like serving tea and scones in the afternoon to the belligerent old gits club. Thankfully, they are all fully vaccinated and don’t remember half of what they’ve procrastinated about after the words have fallen out of their faces.

Love this!

Refuseniks are at least one of these:? selfish, stupid or cowards. Many men fall into the latter women are used to having bodily intrusions for their own good. Males not so - so they resent it. They think it’s manly we know it’s not.

I understand that more men than women are dying of/with COVID. I do wish however we were given more information with these statistics as we were at the start of the pandemic. Such as age, underlying health issues, sex, ethnicity. We can then be more aware of what our own risks are. Having said that I have had both jabs and booster (and flu jab) without this information.

What a sensible comment, yes I totally agree. We really could do with more in - depth knowledge of who is at greatest risk. We are grown-ups. Better demographic information would be so much more useful. Despite the mob making a racket, I for one will still have anything that we're advised by the scientific community to take, what has been done on behalf of humanity by these amazing people will not get proper recognition for decades, a bit like the Bletchley work.
Getting back to the theme here, I'm afraid, whatever the gender, the adage of empty vessels making the most noise seems to apply.
I pity the Emergency Services having to deal with violent morons, and putting themselves at risk of harm, when they have better things to do.

Kestrel Mon 20-Dec-21 12:59:40

I always wonder if it's testosterone having an effect on men? Can't blame hormones but maybe it's a consideration.

Bossyrossy Mon 20-Dec-21 12:59:41

And what about all those professional football players, 30% I believe, who are refusing a vaccine. They are role models for many young people and should be ashamed of themselves. Being fit and healthy is no protection from a virus.

MaggsMcG Mon 20-Dec-21 13:00:36

I respect people's rights to not be vaccinated. Along as they stay away from me and my family. As far as the passports are concerned each individual business can make their own rules at the moment. I would think that if restaurants and pubs want to stay open they may have to tow the line.

Alioop Mon 20-Dec-21 13:08:16

A lady I know went for her 1st jab and was fuming at her husband because he wouldn't get it. I saw her a fortnight ago and low and behold she didn't bother getting her 2nd jab, never mind the booster. She had listened to her husband and his friends as to why she should not get it and believed it all and is as bad as they are now. They go to anti vacs rallies, etc shouting their opinions. I just pray that they don't lose someone close to them to this virus, they won't be quick to shout about it then.
