Interesting one this. I think there are many sides to refusniks of any kind: it could be bloody-mindedness, a genuine fear, mass hysteria, suggestibility, a real belief “they” don’t have your best interests in mind, the belief that we are free individuals etc etc. I spent 40 years trying to get him indoors to co-operate and I got fed up of “asking nicely” so now I just say it as it is. He sees things differently from me, does not have imagination or the ability to put himself in another’s shoes, cannot be spontaneous so fears having to make a quick decision. Plus his father was obstructive to his mother (didn’t want to feel he was back under the female rules) - passive aggressive power play (control). Also an old dinosaur belief that men know better than women (plenty of them around today); link that to a jealousy that a woman may know better added to a feeling of loss of “authority” and self-esteem. Take your pick!
