Liz Truss has covid…

This after spending the afternoon in parliament sitting near the PM and, like most MP’s on the government benches, making a point of not wearing a mask.

Twitter ?

“I read yesterday that a consultant has said that Johnson didn't 'nearly die of Covid' but was hospitalised, because of his position, as 'a precautionary measure'. Anybody surprised?!!!”

Callistemon21 Tue 01-Feb-22 15:48:56

I read on Twitter that someone knew someone whose cousin's sister-in-law was a Consultant at St Thomas's and she heard on the grapevine that......

As MaizieD said I don't think the staff at St Thomas's ever said anything about how ill Johnson was. That would have been a serious breach of patient confidentiality. I trust they are too professional to have done that.

There are posts on this thread that are very worrying. They lack respect, decency, humanity and Christian values. I’m actually shocked and it takes a lot to shock me.

Alegrias1 Tue 01-Feb-22 16:02:16

Of all the views that we hear on GN, being told that some posts don't exhibit "Christian values" is one of the most worrying.

Respect, decency and humanity are things we are entitled to expect from everybody. "Christian values", not so much.

No one - not a single solitary person who “nearly died” of covid came out of hospital within a week, and proceeded to party 3 weeks later.

Nope.

But of course I'd be surprised if you allowed that to happen when you were Prime Minister, wwm2. Do get real.

Regarding Boris' condition in hospital wasn't there a video where he came on camera thanking the doctors and nurses by name? I remember his saying something along the lines that when his body needed oxygen, * and * were by his bedside 24/7 to make the necessary interventions.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 01-Feb-22 16:10:12

I am not a fan of the PM but some of the posts on here regarding his hospitalisation with Covid are on the edge of paranoia.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 01-Feb-22 16:10:24

That is the point though.

Yes I would expect every attention to be given to our prime minister.

No I would not expect him to make capital of it and allow people to think he was worse than he was.

I do not think as covid illness goes he was particularly ill.

As silly as your post of 15.44.09 from that well established font of all things true and accurate twitter ?

This ? at Johnson’s meeting with MPs last night.

He even lies to them

“Boris Johnson reminded Tory MPs last night that Covid almost killed him"

ah they will all come down like flies now, so they can hide. Will Boris be at death's door again!

When I wrote this, I hd just listened to the car crash interview with Nadine Dorries. And yes, I was incandescent. Just seen the Catherine Tate version, and it was even better!

But where, oh where did I write, that I wished anyone ill? That I didn't believe Johnson had Covid. Where?

I am sure Johnson had Covid, and was hospitalised as a precaution due to his position. But he was not intubated, not on a ventilator, and he was out quite quickly and recovered immensely promptly. Good. But NO, he was not at 'death's door' otherwise he would have been put on a ventilator, and he would NOT have recovered so quickly. Simple as.

As for Liz Truss and co, they chose not to wear masks, and to say all precautions had to be dropped, and as Rees-Mogg said 'we are not at risk as we all know each other, we are good friends'. And yes, I am cynical and for good reasons. Very very few trust him, or his word anymore- and know he will use any tactic to hide when he wants to. No surprise there.

There is some terrible nonsense on Twitter. There is also a lot of information from serious politicians, and a lot of other important news. Anybody who just sneers at or dismisses Twitter (or Facebook, for that matter) puts me in mind of those people who said the printing press would never catch on.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 01-Feb-22 16:25:01

I really don’t have time to follow anyone on Twitter, Luddite that I am.

Totally agree, but no Consultant would discuss patient care or their illness on twitter

There is an awful lot of whataboutery and out and out lies on Twitter I cannot comment on Facebook/instagram or any others as I am not on them

Alegrias1 Tue 01-Feb-22 16:30:15

I don't follow anyone on Twitter, but I do go to see what people are saying. Proper people like .... oh, lets say.. Prime Ministers, First Ministers, Vaccine Developers, Scientists....

There's a lot of absolute rubbish on TV but I still watch the good stuff, and I can tell the difference. Criticising individual pieces of content is understandable. Criticising the whole platform is silly smile

Just given the evidence in my post above. Not put on ventilator/intubated, our pretty quickly- and recovered very fast. So NO, he was NOT on death's door.

I am not disagreeing with you Alegrias1

Unless a twitter tweet/quote can be verified then it is just someone’s opinion and cannot be taken as fact Similar to GN in that respect.

Your sympathy speaks volumes

She only said what most of us are thinking.

Still, it makes a better excuse than a holiday or a fridge.

Wishing illness or misfortune on anybody is unjustified in my book regardless.
Did Keir Starmer have an ulterior motive when he self-isolated all those times, 6, wasn’t it, after being in contact with Covid?

Disgusting comments but not surprising on gransnet these days.

Let’s hope karma doesn’t rebound on you or yours.

Kamiso Tue 01-Feb-22 17:05:40

My son’s friend was a senior nurse on the ward where Boris was treated and he was dangerously ill. The corridors were lined with Whitehall bods, parliamentarians, spooks, senior police etc all trying to decide what to do if he died.

No doubt that will brighten the day for the coven!

Allsorts Tue 01-Feb-22 17:06:50

None of us know what went on with Boris in hospital it’s all supposition. I don’t wish anyone harm regardless of his politics, I can’t see how his ill he was is anyones business. I am no Boris supporter but he never mentions he had Covid irvtgzt his daughter did. I wouldn’t be taking notice of Twitter.
Luz Truss has Covid, well so has a great deal of other people, did they ask for it? Let’s hope you don’t.

Yes, back to video with the named bedside nurses, there was something said about it being "touch and go at one point". I'm guessing this is medical terminology for a possible bleak outlook?
The trouble with the expression "dropping/coming down like flies" is that it does imply death. I think it comes from the plague?
