Hello!
Beautiful cabbage - we have seen SO many cabbage whites here this year that it's a mercy we haven't grown cabbages... If we had, they would be nothing like this beauty!
I love dungarees too Mamissimo - I used them a lot for our toddlers. Hope you have a jolly break

Not Locked Down but may need to be locked up
(1001 Posts)Hi All. I have been reading all your news but have been suffering from a laziness and just can’t be bothered patch. I was wondering about Nfk too and hope she’s ok.
I’m not going to moan yet again about my stroke except to say it’s getting me down big time at the moment. Sorry.
Will be back in a few days when I’ve given myself a good talking too. Love to All
I hope you had a much better day Doodle 💛
I find things go up and down so not aways down.
I have just met a very nice young couple who came to buy an old chair which the Kiwi girl had advertised online. They had just bought a 1930's house so were thrilled with this old wing chair. Sorry, mid century design classic!
Tomorrow I'm off to join the Glasgow grans meet up. Its always fun.
Tomorrow is my DS and DDiL 20th wedding anniversary. This makes me feel ancient but also very happy for them.
Jeeves is on his way to deliver favourite drinks all around. Xx
Kaimoana how lovely to read how well your DGS is doing and of his caring relationship with his little sister, I’m sure Gubbins adores him. So nice you get to spend time together.
*Your group has an interesting way of getting to know each other. What a brilliant idea.
Ixion yes I’ve had a better day today thank you. I’ve joined a Mindful walking group. Walk about 90 minutes with a couple of stops and a coffee. It was good.
So annoying isn’t it when you have to wait in all day for someone. Surely they could let you have some idea when they’re coming.
*Grammaretto I had thought I read somewhere about someone you know firing up his kiln which took over 50 hours and took a while to cool down. I’ve looked back up the thread but can’t see it. Did I make it up?
Hope everyone has a good day
crossed posts Grammaretto
Yes thank you, a better day. It’s encouraging to hear of others having better days. I like to think things will get a bit better
Ooh have a lovely time at the meet up. Will Marydoll be there? *If so say hello from me. She’s a lovely lady (just like you 😊)
I bet there will be a lot of chat and laughter, have a great time
Mindful walking, Doodle?🤔 90 minutes?😳. Good for you. Don't forget to tell that to your Consultant when he reviews you in ?October 🥇.
Is it a walkie-talkie walk like Cherry's or a contemplative one?
I am always bemused by DGC's progressive school in Oz., which holds daily Mindfulness sessions. How they manage to keep boisterous boys engaged, I don't know. Especially the Hey Nana uber-chatty six year old.
Pleased to hear that you offloaded your wing chair, Grammaretto. Would that my casting around would find a keen home for a Victorian dining table and 10 balloon back chairs. Easy on the eye but hell on the back. Enjoy your meet up tomorrow. Photos would be nice, as would I.D, which MD arranged on one occasion. Faces to names are welcome!
Success on several fronts today on the 'Returns' and 'Repairs' fronts. Chairs went back at 8.50, phone replacement returned to John Lewis via Waitrose and repayment received on the seat cushions. No-one told us, but a try of the landline revealed that the mending fairy had done his stuff remotely after all.
You have much to be proud of with your family, Kaimoana.
Much sporting prowess, a DGD who loves to visit despite the distance and a positive little charmer, knickerless or not😍.
ixion 90 minutes in total. Walking quietly together for a while then a little group session where they concentrate on breathing, feeling the ground under your feet, the wind, etc. Nothing heavy just people who need a little company without pressure and walking for exercise. A coffee at the end to warm us up. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it Whether my legs will tomorrow remains to be seen.🤣
She who pays the piper......
I wonder what would happen if you said to these arrogant concerns, "I shall be home from 2pm to 6pm on Wednesday, not home at all (true or not) on Thursday and from 9am to 5pm on Friday. Could you please tell me which time and day your workperson will be here? Thankyou."
Jan don't be too hard on yourself.
When my DH's Auntie had a stroke, we were told that one of the post-stroke symptoms of stroke is involuntary anger and emotional lows.
No more controllable than a sneeze when you have a cold.
That's in addition to the very natual frustrations tou must be feeling.
Do you have a Stroke Support worker you can talk to?
The only way I have of getting to the main hospital in Auckland 25 km away is on a special shuttle (not the St John one).
With the help of Aatoa, I rang them last Wednesday and booked a seat.
Today a text came in saying they could find no note of my booking ... so how did they get my detail to send the text?
)
The booking clerk clearly forgot to bring the one brain cell she shares with a gerbil to work with her today. Same question over and over, seemingly ignoring my replies and though I was frustrated beyond belief, remained perfectly calm and polite but she hung up on me.
So unless I can find an alternative, my appointment with Vascular surgeon on 30th will have to be cancelled. I am hoping Waipareira can offer a solution perhaps Sherlock's 7%
In betwee making tomato soup, apple crumble and sugarless banana custard, I spoke by video call to an old friend on the coast; got heaps of laundry done which Aato hung out in cold but bright sunshine and listened to an audiobook version of BBC's 'Who goes there?'
Interesting because Fred Housego was a participant and I much admire him.
Then I treated myself to an hour of Radio 4: Brain of Britain and Tweet of the Day. Lovely.
I have to access these on my PC so not comfy to sit here for very long.
Now off to make lettuce leaf parcels by wrapping them round cheese, chutney and spring onions.
Hello lobStars
I'm fed up, my cough is back, I'm having more seizures four in the last 24 hours, I'm not sleeping, am bruised from a fall, brain fogged and having trouble with my words and feeling terrible for telling you all this. Sorry for unburdening my woes onto you all.
I am thinking about you all, especially our Doodle, and just wanted to pop in to tell you that 🙂.
I'm hoping 🤞to be feeling better and back posting properly in a day or two but in the meantime ...
... take care everyone 🤗.
Poor our Cherry 🍒 😔
Sorry everything has been going wrong and you are battered and bruised.
I hope tonight is much better.
Doodle enjoyed her mindful walk with coffee. That sounds perfect.
Kaimoana is being treated very badly by peoplewho are supposed to care.
*Let's hope the Waipareira will get
you to your appointment*
I enjoyed my day in Glasgow with the gels. Some good chats and though some grans were unable to come, two new grans came who fitted right in.
I was the only one to have a glass of wine. Everyone else is so abstemious (sp?)
It seems that the chairs were collected ixion. Is that what you were waiting in for?
It's a real faff trying to sell online. That's why I leave it to my Helpers but now I am dealing with annoying people who text 3 times*to arrange a time and then announce that the shelves are too wide for the space!!!
Grrr.
Grammaretto I sympathise with your 'selling angst' as I stopped doing it for that reason too.
I once sold a set of bunk beds fairly quickly, then a man rang but when I told him they'd gone said, 'But were they wooden and did they have their own mattresses.....? (all in the original advert) but what did it matter ? They'd gone! A masochist perhaps
Cherry PLEASE never feel you can't unburden and moan here - isn't that what friends are for, to help by listening and sending good, positive thoughts?
I hope you feel a lot better soon dear friend.
Not much happening at Whare Kaimoana today except being taken to the Sallies Community Lunch.
News from Oz is all good, DS is enjoying the steep learning curve
Jan and Notspaghetti I’m so sorry I must have missed your posts yesterday I didn’t see there was another page.
Jan I’m sorry things are getting you down. Are you still having physio? Must be very frustrating not being able to get around like you used to and upsetting. As Kaimoana said, do you have any Stroke support worker who could help.
Notspaghetti I love a good pair of dungarees. I’m quite messy and it covers up a lot 🤣
Grammaretto I’m so pleased you made it to your GN meet-up. Must be lovely to be able to chat in person.
i hate selling anything online. You get let down so much by people and it’s always tricky.
Kaimoana your gerbil quip made me laugh 🤣.
I do hope you can arrange transport soon you mustn’t miss such an important visit. I wish I was coming to dinner. The food sounds lovely. You’re an amazing lady being able to prepare such a lovely meal with your sight problems.
Oh dear Cherry I’m so sorry your cough is back again and more seizures too. Hope you’re not too badly bruised. Of course you should tell us we care about you a lot. I’m sending Jeeves along to keep an eye on you. Take care lovely lady xx
Well my boiler service is actually next week!
🤬
No need to be ready for 7am today!
NotSpag! 😬🙄
Why do they tell you they'll be there at 7am? That never happens here.
I must have missed Jan's news too. I hope it's a case of 2 steps forward and only one step back. It must be depressing for you if you aren't able to function like you used to. Sending 🫂
I think you should see the doc about your cough Cherry.
I am glad DS is happily settling into his new job Kaimoana.
My DS1 is having a rethink about his work and looking for another job.
*It's not easy in your 50s to change
direction and perhaps accept lower
pay *.
His eldest is applying to universities and I guess there's an element of mid life crisis and looming empty nest!
Back to potting. I have open studios in a little over a week and I'm away for the weekend.
Yes, it was the chairs, Grammaretto, that I was waiting in for. Unfortunately, Kaimoana, I wasn't the Piper for the returns. 6 hefty cartons were returned free of charge, for which I was eternally grateful. So saying, I was happy enough to get up early and see them on their way, with the added bonus of 💷s saved.
I am glad you had a good time with the Glesca Gang and that new recruits felt suitably welcome - but no surprise there!
I hope your Open Studio session is a success. Are you exhibiting on line as well?
Kaimoana, I am so sorry that your lift to the Vascular has gone belly up. Hopefully there is sufficient time for a Plan B?🤞I hadn't realised that your DS travelled to Australia to actually start work. I assumed he had flown there to finalise his new job, but now recall that you mentioned that his new company had volunteered to fly his family out, which makes sense.
Poorlies a-plenty here at the moment, in body or soul. Always good to here from Jan whenever you can, Cherry you are in the wars. Maybe a silly question🫣, but are your seizures affected by the weather/atmospherics/pressure changes, IYSWIM🫢.Should I be training Doodle up for Saturday's match? I'll get some Pringles in, just in case. Please take care.
Doodle, how was your day?🌈 Thinking of you.
Haircut tomorrow and lunch out. I must explore Halloween toot to send the DGSs abroad. Just stickers and colouring *'creative' bits😉. DS rightly has a thing about plastic tat and a long time ago, I learned not to send birthday balloons as they harm the wildlife, Nana.*🙇♀️
Hey ho, I am sending them glow in the dark spooky pyjamas.
* Tho' I've a suspicion that British weather at the end of October is more worthy of warm jammies than is spring in the southern hemisphere*.
Notspaghetti Oops. Oh dear. At least you’re getting it done well in time for winter,
Grammaretto are you going anywhere nice for the weekend?
Are there other contributing items to the open studio too?
Hope your DS gets on well in his job hunt. Our son has one in her 4th year at University and one just starting .
ixion I’m getting ready 🏋️♀️🤸♂️🤾♀️ just in case I’m needed. Just polishing my maracas 🪇!
Good day today until the point I burst into tears in the middle of Waitrose!! I only went in for a pack of dog chews for my grandsons dogs. I shot out of there and home again as quickly as possible. My friend made me laugh (she was in the car with me). Cry as much as you like, she said, there’s a pack of 9 toilet rolls in the boot 🤣🤣
That is absolutely the right person to have with you Doodle when you need a good cry. Bless her.
ixion I don't wonder you're confused!
it was a whirlwind time and not easy for any of us. DS has always been a hands-on Dad, even looking after Gubbins as he worked.
Consequently he’s the go-to parent, what did we say before US jargon?
but despite knowing he’d miss her, hadn’t realised the disabling depth of that emotion. His mother is much relieved that it has turned out so well. I wish the same for your unsettled souls too.
Grammaretto I forget where your DS1 lives but if it’s here, the signs aren’t hopeful. Perhaps he could start his own business? It’s dismal being in a job which brings you no joy.
I hope you enjoy your weekend away
Was Marydoll at the GG meeting?
I'm hoping for a quiet and solitary weekend with my audio books and knitting.
No cooking, so all I have to do is reach for the soup and salad.
🌈 Have a peaceful weekend everyonw
It's true that it's not easy in your 50s to change direction and accept lower pay - in fact it's hard at any age but I'd say it's better to be happier and a bit less "comfortable" (so long as you can "get by").
Had my mother over today gor afternoon tea after her hospital appointment. She liked my begonias so thought I'd share them here - hope I haven't before (.?)
Hope you all have a good day tomorrow.
🌞
Gorgeous Begonias
I had to check back to see what NotSpaghetti was getting done before the winter.......
A haircut perhaps? 😂🤣
Turns out it was getting the boiler serviced. How sensible.
It's not NZ son who's having the midlife crisis, but one of the 2 who are here. I think he's really OK and just needed to vent. He changed his job 5 years ago and he isn't thrilled with it. It pays well and the DGC are expensive.
I am going to be in a cabin in a damp field this weekend. Just packing now:
Hot water bottle, thick socks, dressing gown, extra pillow, whisky....
I'm getting a lift down - It's halfway to Glasgow - so can leave my noisy car at home. My car has a hole in the exhaust so I sound like a boyracer or should that be girl racer.
See you soon.
I forgot to admire the begonias, NotSpag, so beautiful 😍
And to say Marydoll was indeed lifeandsoul at the GG gathering
Good to read Marydoll is so much perkier
A cabin in a damp field? And you only just recovering from the lurgy.
I hope it's for a good cause.
Found some very old photos, I thought lost. Transported to the Cloud no harp
The lady you saw with DS in London used to be in the national classica dance company in Viet-nam.
She also taught her daughter
Sorry all I’ve just got in been out to celebrate grandsons 21st. I’m really tired now so if you forgive me I will catch up with news tomorrow. Sleep tight all. x
I love freesia Kaimoana2 - especially the white ones as they are usually the most fragrant
