Zengran and I are starting a Proud to be Old club for gransnetters. We are sick of the 'culture' of youth worship in our society and people trying to disguise their age all the time (always downwards once they're out of their twenties).

Join here!

Old Pride Rocks!

Started to look at setting up a Group Twitter account and it looks as though you have to pay a monthly premium. Will keep looking.

Along with everyone else I am ageing but I'm not yet old.

I colour my hair and wear make up as I have always done. I didn't do it to look younger when I was thirty something and I don't do so to try to look younger now. "I yam what I yam" [embracing age emoticon]

I'm all for challenging the culture of youth and ageism, it would be great if there were more positive images of older people in the media.

I have a twitter account but don't use it, I don't really 'get' it, and have about two followers but I'll pass it on to them grin

Another Twitter account I follow is that of the Cloud Appreciation Society. We are going to be the Age Appreciation Scoiety!

I don't do twitter any more - didn't quite work for me.

B I added The Cloud Appreciation Society to my FB page last night, as I used to follow it on twitter - and thought the Age Appreciation Society would be a good name for your idea. Great minds. smile

Embrace Age - The Age Appreciation Society.

I'll happily join an FB page - but not sure what you mean by the 'admins' stuff.

Thanks for letting me know there's such a thing as a Cloud Appreciation Society - I appreciate it smile

I like 'embrace age' - I don't want to sound like an after-shave. grin

As long as people don't think it's some sort of seniors dating site! grin

Embracing Age means accepting that as individuals we remain the people we always were. We do not on reaching a given birthday, 50, 60, 70, +? all morph into short round ladies with white hair, short perms and no interest in what we look like, who cannot operate a computer without a grandchild's help, and are always baking cakes, which is roughly what the media picture of older women is. Nothing wrong with any of the above, but it is used as a short cut to dismissing older women from being of any account.

Have you seen the recent newspaper adverts by McCarthy & Stone? It shows a young, old man, full head of white hair with one of those wide open mouthed rictus smiles, advertisers so like. Standing beside him is older lady as above with a ditto rictus open mouth proffering a plate of cupcakes to a small boy, back to camera whose whole pose is of naked fear. The woman reminds me of the witch in Hansel & Gretel. I actually find the advert picture quite frightening and off putting, but it reflects an advertisers view of what old age is and an assumption that this is a view that older women feel comfortable with.

I'd say a Facebook Group page would be better than a Twitter. Members can post on it and add photos, Youtube and links.

There is now a Facebook page for our Embrace Age movement. Get liking it, folks. Please suggest ideas for the profile pic and wotnot, and tell me (by pm of preferred) if you want to be an admin (means you can post stuff other than comments, I think).

This is a work in progress – that means I don't really know what I'm doing, just jump in the deep end and started swimming!

I quite like the idea of using Mr Soop's banner photo of us at Gally's to begin with for the background of the profile, but would need to have the permission of everyone in it!

We also need a suggestion for the little square profile pic.

Plus links to articles, pictures, etc. that we want to post on there.

In short: Help!
